Well goddamn. That's like "we the publishers want you to completely rework the game" type delaying.

I really want Obsidian to nail this, though. Mixed feelings.

I was really looking forward to this game.  Hopefully the extra time leads to an even better final product.

For me this is good, the game hasn't looked polished enough for my liking, and my excitement for it isn't exactly high.

    Woooow.  That is horrible news.
I'd like to think it's because nobody wants to go up against some of the heavy hitters this holiday (Modern Warfare 2, Brutal Legend), but 8 months sounds like some major changes are going into this game.
Hopefully it'll still retain its basic appeal.

Why would anyone get this now? Mass Effect 2 is gonna completely overshadow it.

sega didn't say anything the first time it got delayed
so if you can't buy it on the 6th then its 8 months

It's too bad Obsidian didn't hold off on Neverwinter Nights 2 for another 8 months because that mess of a game needed at least that much more time to squash most of the bugs it shamefully shipped with. I would warn anyone looking to buy Alpha Protocol at launch to be very concerned about Obsidian's track record of just kicking a game out the door in whatever state it is in and promising to patch it later. Only that later turns into many months, not days like they allude to. I got burned with Neverwinter Nights 2 and I don't think Obsidian has learned it's lesson yet. Buyer beware.

Yeah I'm actually really glad to see this. I love the premise and customisation, but the action/stealth/gunplay just didn't look polished enough. This should help with that, so good!

*Is* it getting delayed, or is this just a Gamestop date screw-up?

I think all of that is more pressure from a publisher to push out the game asap than Obsidian doing it because they want to, but your point is still valid.

I'm gonna dig a little deeper, see what I can find out...unless the GB guys know more.

My quick dash around a few sites shows the actual Alpha Protocol page saying October. Gamespot says Q2 2010, but doesn't have any news about that changing that I can see.

Considering how Sega hasn't really been showing the game off, I won't be surprised if this delay turns out to be true. Normally we'd have played it by now. Normally we'd have a version of it in-house by now.

Yeah you'd think that they'd be entering the heavier marketing campaign time-frame at this point, and its gone totally quiet, so this sounds quite reasonable.

This whole thing is kind of dodgy.  Sega's site says it's coming out in two weeks; Amazon has it listed for the end of October; Gamestop has it for next June.  Who is right?  Who knows!

I'm sort of glad. I've been interested in seeing how this game turns out, but just judging by the trailers it doesn't look very polished. I haven't seen much promotion for this game in recent months either. I'd like this game to get the polish it deserves.

Right move for Sega. It would've been crushed Q4 09 or Q1 10, so June 2010 is the right time for Alpha Protocol to come out.

I would say this is a good thing.  Every different gameplay walk through I've seen so far, seems somewhat shaky on execution.

    Maybe it's the PS3... it's a curse!

Or the normal development of a title delayed because of very slow progress in working with the machine.

Well I'm for one is glad they take time to make a finished product. Remember KotOR 2? That was released way too early. That was most likely the publishers fault for insisting it had to be out for the holidays, but still I'm sure they don't want to hurry a game for a holiday release again.

Let's hope it isn't true, but lack of marketing was making me wonder if Sega was intrested in selling any copies at all of the game.

Didn't Sega say in the Sony meeting that leaked that they kinda wanted Alpha Protocol to be more like Mass Effect? I'm a little scared, I was really, really looking forward to this game in it's current status.

This is bullshit. 2009 was supposed to be the year with the crazy amount of good games. Now, the big games left are Brutal Legend, Borderlands, Gay Tony, AC2, L4D2, and MW2. MW2 is big, but it comes out in fucking november. Alpha protocol was supposed to come out a month before, will before the hype train. Seriously, these companies are going to face a huge shock when these games tank. Games like Bioshock 2 are going to be fine. Other games? not so much.
