Two Civilization V DLC Packs Hitting October 25

Genghis Kahn and Nebuchadnezzar need your help conquering the world.

2K Games and Firaxis seem to think that Civilization V needs more content--and who are we to argue when the price is cheap and the release is soon?

Two downloadable content packs are dropping on October 25: the Mongols Civilization and Scenario Pack and the Babylonian Civilization Pack. The Mongols pack is all-new content and it's priced at an agreeable zero dollars. The latter pack actually appeared in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game as a free-ish perk, but for those of us who didn't bite at the time, 2K Games is asking for $4.99.

No Caption Provided

According to 2K, the aforementioned Mongols pack "calls for the strongest leaders to ride with Genghis Khan and his Mongol horsemen to establish the largest continuous land empire ever seen." The Babylonian Pack, on the other hand, puts you in the boots of Nebuchadnezzar II as the King of Babylon works to expand his fledgling empire with unique archers (and other, less special troops).

Just a small note, but all PC versions of the game will be receiving this content. Rest easy. You have entire continents to conquer soon, after all.

I think this DLC will hit before I even finish my first game. Why did I pick long game on a massive map again?

What's wrong with DLC leaders/civs? Especially when one's free and the other was a special edition (digital deluxe or whatever) pack-in? I'm fine with this.

So what are Nebuchadnezzar's civ specialties? And I like Pangaea maps so I'm sure Kahn will come in handy.

Well, I already have Babylon, so the Mongols for free sounds good. Hopefully that next patch comes out beforehand and straightens up some of the issues before I jump back in.

Ugh. I was really hoping that they wouldn't nickel and dime us with DLC, since in the past they've done expansion packs that always ended up being pretty good deals, but I guess this generation's annoying business practices can't be escaped.

@MaddProdigy:  I understand why they are doing it and Firaxis has the right to do this but something does not feel right. This is something that normally the mod community would do. I don't know, I guess I want to wait and see where this goes.

Neba is actually pretty fun to play as. His huge science advantage reminds me of playing as Zarkhov in Alpha Centauri.

Well, you know, with mods you aren't going to be getting them voiced or the leader scenes or things like that. Higher quality and all that.

But the mod community is still doing similar things.  Not to mention for Civ IV, additional civlizations came in the form of expansions, which you also bought.  This isn't anything new and people saying this "feels wrong" are being ridiculous.

They're giving people who didn't purchase the deluxe edition of the game the choice to buy the exclusive civilization that was bundled with it, and adding in a free civilization for everyone. Why are people getting bent out of shape?

The Babylonians were a collectors edition special.  Releasing that as a paid dlc isn't anything new, and has long ceased being something people should be angry at.  The Mongols DLC is free, so unless you want to be given money for it, there is no grounds for complaints there.

Yep, releasing free DLC and then asking people to pay for stuff that was included in the collector's edition is definitely "nickel and dime"-ing us. You realize how stupid it would be to include a civilization in the collector's edition that costs more than the regular edition and then just release that same civilization to everyone for free just a month later. Seriously, think before you write something so outlandishly stupid.

I don't get people complaining about DLC price.  People had to pay a little extra originally to get the babylon one, so it makes perfect sense to charge a little for it.  They are just allowing people who did not buy that version a way to get the content.  The other pack is FREE. It can't get any cheaper than that.  Think before complaining....

I'd prefer for the dlc to improve on the gameplay, to be honest. But then again, that's not really what dlc does.
I'll wait for an expansion pack, I don't really need more civilizations if the game will just have the same problems.

I hope they can come out with a steady pace of new civilizations and they don't charge ridiculous fees for them. I have about 100 hours into the game and the biggest problem I find is boredom from the different civ's. I want them to play differently but no matter what one I pick I can pretty much win by playing the same way. Playing one guy over another should force me to play differently.

Yay zero dollars...waaaiit a minute. This better not be the "1st DLC Pack Free" thing Direct2Drive promised people who pre ordered through them. Babylon is one of the best Civs by the way. It isn't just some cobbled together Civ they threw out for 5 bux.

Well since I got the Steam version, it was all I got, unless you're talking about the behind the scenes stuff I could look up on youtube or the soundtrack I could have just extracted from the game files.

If you don't really care about the art and you're savvy enough to get the soundtrack out of the install files themselves, then this means you could have saved $5 from getting the "digital deluxe" on Steam. That's the only thing I might be the slightest bit miffed about if I had dropped $60 on the game originally.

But even for $5, I'm happy enough with the civilizations that came with the non-preorder, non-"special" edition of the game. With mod support built right into the game, who needs them anyway?

What? Everyone gets a free Civ. Then the Collector's edition bonus Civ is $5....you are lucky that you can buy it at all. The people who paid for the collector's edition have more of a right to be mad than you.  If they gave the Babylonian pack out for free, i would feel ripped of since i paid for it. But if paying $5 for a $10 Civ is a rip off, please feel free to not buy it, and get a free Civ anyway. And game altering DLC doesn't usually get cheaper than $5. Go complain about MW2 map packs. This is actually a good thing, as most other people would probably agree.
