uh, we're gonna be playing as bid daddies for most of the time? it looks really good either way.

Looks kind of familiar. Is this still running on Unread Engine 2.5? I see you still move as if you are a floating camera with arms.
At this point, I'm still concerned about story over anything else. I don't think you can really top the narrative of the previous game, which was expertly tied to the medium. I still believe this is just a cash in sequel above anything else, and though it will replicate the gameplay of the original, it will fail to deliver in the ways that separated BioShock from other FPS games.
I hate the playing as a Big Daddy nonsense. The daddies in the first game really sold the atmosphere of an underwater utopia-gone-awry, every time you stumbled across them. Their best function is as a visual and interactive touchstone for the world of Rapture. Secondarily, they're formidable opponents, albeit porrly designed as simple damage sponges.
But I just don't see any value in putting the player in their shoes. When they went that route in the first game, it didn't work for me at all. And why would the Rapture scientist make the first Big Daddy a plasmid fiend? Isn't that a conflict of interest with him guarding Little Sisters?
"And why would the Rapture scientist make the first Big Daddy a plasmid fiend? Isn't that a conflict of interest with him guarding Little Sisters?"I expect at the very least that this will be explained in the game. Perhaps the Big Daddy already had the plasmids to begin with? And remember, you don't have to kill little sisters to get Adam.
The flood scene was incredible but I'm not sure I want to go back to the fucked up Rapture. Before the game was shown I was hoping they'd do something like a prequel before Rapture's downfall, with the city fully functioning, the people (well, some at least) happy and carefree, and just having a freeform sandbox gameplay similar to the original Deus Ex. Maybe even being able to cause a time paradox so that the sequel never happens. I don't want another corridor shooter I guess.
It's a strange day when I'm one of the few with a genuine interest in something, and very little negativity to share beyond reasonable skepticism.
If you naysayers go back and actually play Bioshock, you'll find in terms of character design and gameplay, it plays very differently to the original Bioshock. New weapons, new Big Daddy suit and new underwater sections, I didn't see that in the original. Since System Shock 2 was as good, if not better than System Shock 1, I have a feeling that the developers are not gonna let this one suck, especially seeing as this is Ken Levine's baby.
I don't think I'll be dissapointed...
At some of the criticism of the game. I was skeptical at first, but I read the feature in Gameinformer and am kind of excited about the game now. Apparently you play the first big daddy ever made, who was a prototype. That's why you have the ability to use plasmids. Also, the story is promised to be on par with the first game.
I have to say, it looks like they're definitely getting the mood down pat. That's good to know... I hope this game has some deeper underlying themes behind it, something to make it as important of a piece as Bioshock the first, and not just 'funtime adventures in aqua-land.' Granted I won't be object to a game that's just plain fun, so let's just hope they improve on the mechanics of the first one, rip out that stupid, god-awful hacking mechanic entirely, and make a really great game.
That line at the end is f'n creepy. Good. More of that stuff, please.
Also, no no no to underwater bossfights. Water levels are always some of the worst levels in any game, so unless they've "figured it out," let's just leave the underwater to exploring and/or trying not to be eaten by sharks. Dharma initiative labeled sharks.
Looks like I'd be better off firing up Bioshock for another playthrough on it's release, this hasn't interested me in the slightest. This has "Quick-cash-in-sequel" written all over it in annoying Caps...
Well wow, it looks like the first Bioshock, should be interesting to see if they can pull off a plot that actually works in any meaningful way.
I love how people are pulling the whole "it looks like Bioshock 1" negativity out! lol
This one is a tough one for me. On the one hand, I loved the original Bioshock and really would enjoy a sequel. On the other hand, I don't want a crappy sequel and feel they should just leave well enough alone. It might be more of the same, which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.
I wanted it to be less of a shooter and more of a survival-RPG like System Shock 2.
Why couldn't Bioshock be like this, 2K? Why?!
Who are you in this game? I got the kid-friendly ending, and you leave Rapture and grow old and die with the lil sisters in what I perceived as a creepy polygamous relationship with all of em. (Was anyone else surprised the protag was a Mormon?) Didn't Rapture explode or something? Maybe this is like Rapture Sorna/Site B, where they grew all the Big Daddies an Lil Sisters before their frog DNA caused them to transgenderate...
Spoilers.
Looks actually a lot more focused on combat and less on the fear and turbulent atmosphere.
I don't know if that means I'll like it more or less, but that's my two cents.
Looks good but the whole little sister and big daddy thing is the direction I was hoping they wouldn't go in. Finally though they add the water into the underwater city game which I was hoping to see in the first game after the opening level but it never came.
What worries me is that Bioshock was based on a book, right?
"ummm....looks like Bioshock 1. to me, Bioshock 1 wasn't that fun to play with. so, whateves."YOU SIR ...are an idiot!
