You know, it's weird enough that there's a game being made out of Showtime's Dexter, a series based on the macabre double life of forensics expert/lovable serial killer Dexter Morgan. It's even stranger that it's being put out by Marc Ecko's game company. The fact that it's coming out on the iPhone of all things is just the topper on this already bizarre situation.
Anyway, if you've been wondering, as I have, what the hell kind of game Icarus Studios could be turning Dexter into, we've got some new screenshots and a piece of company-provided text to clarify things a little.
DEXTER is the story of Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood spatter expert for the Miami Dade Police Department who is secretly a serial killer who hunts down people who have escaped justice. The iPhone videogame based on DEXTER is a mystery game emphasizing investigation and problem solving - the player will analyze crime scenes, uncover evidence, and choose which brand of justice best suits the situation: the courts or the “Dark Passenger”. The effectiveness of every choice and interaction revolves around the Code of Harry: only kill the guilty, maintain the Mask, and, above all, don’t get caught!

OK, so it's an adventure game. But why do I get the feeling video game Dexter is going to lose the unflinching devotion to his almost noble ideals that just barely prevents you from seeing TV Dexter as an outright monster? Seeing that shot of him there, looking all dead-eyed in that kill room, just makes me picture some kind of tilt-based gameplay where you move the iPhone to align a butcher knife with some guy's jugular. It's just...ugh.
Maybe Icarus can prove me wrong, but man, I'll be a bit leery of this game's intentions until they do.
