Heard the latest podcast. I don't know
why bashing Fallout: New Vegas gave
any justification for Vinnie cheating at the
game. I played the game for 15 hours so
far & I haven't had it crash once! The only
problem I did encounter was where the
character gets stuck in an inclined plane
(such as a bus on a 45-degree angle) & then
can't move from the spot. Sol'n is to reload
a previous save. I had this same issue with
Fallout 3.
Vinnie, here is a tip on making the
game a bit easier. When you level up,
put your whole 12-15 points into one
skill that seemed most recently important
& don't dabble it around to the others.
I've found that to work better. I did
notice that some dialog options offered
2 different ways to achieve the same system.
However, if something required a high
Science or Lockpick, then write it down on
a notepad & come back to it later when
you've skilled-up.
That thing that Jeff said about Factions
& how "early on he had to pick a side".
Well I think that is TOTALLY WRONG.
Here is a hint on how to get around that.
Let's say you go up & attack a faction,
now you are hated & have picked sides.
However, if one of your NPC lackeys
hates that faction & attacks first, it
doesn't count against YOUR VIEW OF THE
FACTION! I found this out by testing
the mission where you need to save a
couple of captured prisoners. The lackey
attacked first & I wasn't given a faction
penalty.
So no, Jeff, you do not have to pick
a side early on. The game is clearly
intelligent enough to make that distinction,
though it isn't explained in the rules.
Thought I'd pass that observation on.
Overall, I'm amazed at how much more
improved the game is. There were other
little cheats I found that don't work
in the game. For instance, you can't just
suck on stimpaks constantly. The game
will give you an ability penalty (stim
sickness). And that isn't in hardcore
mode. Combat is harder & requires more
maintenance/repairs, but there isn't a
shortage of repair locations. Radiation can be
a pain but at the start of the game you
get a doctor's location. I've used the chems
& have not got an addiction, perhaps they
moved that to hardcore.
One time, I wandered the wasteland & watched
two sides duke it out with neither attacking
me. Later on, I stopped at a location & spoke
to someone about one of the sides. They said
their team was "out on patrol". I laughed
out loud realizing the guy doesn't even know
they're all dead yet, though I didn't get a
chance to tell him as there wasn't a
dialogue for it.
I also noticed that those missions where you
have to ask around to figure out a mystery
was more stable than in previous RPGs I've
played where mysteries are usually glitchy
or a chore.
It's an excellent game. Fallout: New Vegas,
is what I'd call Advanced Fallout 3. They
just fleshed it out, giving more options to
craft stuff, added more penalties to produce
better challenges, more detailed quests
& seems stable enough after the patch update
(released about a week after the game came
out).
I'm sure there must be something I haven't
encountered yet since I see other threads
making statements about game breaks, but
I don't want to read spoilers just yet either.
Anyway, the above is just reflections based
on my experience with game. No need to get
all flamey about it.
