I was talking with a few of my friends the other day (about games of course) and I bought up that GiantBomb is my favorite game web site out there. What surprised me was that one of them has heard of GiantBomb and everyone else didn't know what it was! GiantBomb has a lot of members and probably non-members, but most of the people I know don't come here. I was thinking about it today so I wanted to see if anyone thinks that GiantBomb should be as well known as gamespot or gametrailers, or should it have a sort of underground cult thing sort of following.
How many of your friends have heard of GiantBomb?
Two of my friends have heard of Giant Bomb. They found it through Quick Looks and the like.
As for large mainstream following or "under ground cult" following, I'm not sure where I stand. On one hand the large following means the good folk behind the site make more and do better for themselves. Obviously I think that's a good thing, they deserve it since they give us so much useful content.
But on the other hand, it's nice to have a tight-knit community on a site. Generally that get's forfeit as the site grows. It becomes harder to come in to contact with the staff and you see less and less familiar names on the forums. So I'm split.
I don't think any of my friends use the site, most of my friends aren't as into games as myself... several of them just flat out don't play games. I've shown the Quicklooks off before, the Brutal Legend one to a friend who was really looking forward to that game and the Boy And His Blob one to a friend who loved that game as a child. Most of my friends are ladies though and it is hard to come by girls who talk about gaming openly, althought most of them don't mind it and will even play from time to time it just isn't in their hobbies.
" None, but then again, all of the people I know who play video games are a plague on society. "Hah. That's how I feel. My friends don't play games. And the kids that I know that are crazy about them are the dumbest shut-ins on Earth.
I managed to get near twenty friends to sign up last year, sadly the majority have now left...some of you are still around though. XX
You should all go forth and spread the good word like a deranged preacher men, just show them the light - content.
Almost all of my friends know about it and most have made accounts but never go on near as much as I do.
Yea my close friends know but I don't want loads of people here to stuff things up. I now know alot of people from recognition like Bucketdeth and RHCfan24 also MattyFTM and CitizenKane. So if there were loads of people I wouldn't know anyone but yea I now know most of the people that post abit on here.
Two signed up, the rest know of it and checks it from time to time.
They didn't feel the need to make a user though since all they're watching is the videos and reading reviews.
