Giant Bomb being connected to the Whiskey family of sites has made for an ever greater experience than GameSpot ever did for me.
Is Giantbomb the new old gamespot?
i don't think so. giantbomb is the place for old members of gamespot to come. i was here and a lot of people are from there. no, i don't do a lot of editing here. the wiki stuff is already edited whenever i think of something good. i barley have any wiki points because of that reason. i guess you have to be good to do a lot of editing.
No.
GameSpot came with "GameSpot's not the same anymore gosh I don't know why" threads whereas Giant Bomb comes with "Is Giant Bomb GameSpot?" threads.
See? Big difference there.
I came here because I wanted to follow Jeff's journalism and it became more than that. Now it's the best videogame website ever made.
At Gamespot the guys were restricted and at Giantbomb they can do w/e they want ( if you listen to Alex and Jeff talk about the old days working at GS they hated most of it).
" Yes I was a die hard Gamespot and stopped following the site after the shift of staff. But I'm not following Giantbomb because it consists of old gamespot people. I follow Giantbomb because it's a really unique concept with the wiki pages and great work with quick looks and other means to show us the games. So as Axxol said. Giant Bomb is not the new old Gamespot. It's the Giant Bomb. "
This. Hence, the lack of "game" in the name of the site. Oh, and to hell with Gamespot and their shitty community. Real discussion is overly sanitized by a bunch of power tripping, kiddie moderators who will delete your posts for saying things they personally don't like, regardless of whether or not it violates their holy ToU." No. Giant Bomb is the Giant Bomb. "
Absolutely. As much as I can understand why people would say that it stands on its own, Giant Bomb has exactly the same atmosphere as the old GameSpot. And that's a good thing.
That is to say, it's much, much, much more laid-back than other videogame websites, and its original content, videos including the editing staff goofing around being themselves, that's what people really come here for, with reviews and news on the industry being something they check out once they're finished checking out Quick Looks and Mailbag videos. The difference is that Giant Bomb has no restrictions placed on it that the staff themselves did not place on it, so the site is allowed to grow without arbitrary limits placed on it.
Same people but its got a different vibe, its a good thing though.
The guys were great at gamespot don't get me wrong but if you go back and watch any of there videos they dont act like themselves as much and theres a obvious formality to it all. Here they basically just wing it on everything and its solid gold.
GameSpot was awesome for me because I met a lot of people on the boards, but this site has 100x better content.
Much better atmosphere here too. I felt like I was held captive somehow when I used GS... like someone was always "watching me"... kinda creepy now that I'm thinking of it.
