My sympathies brother. I know I sometimes grit my teeth at not being able to play things like ME 1 & 2, Fable2, Nuts & Bolts and Shadow Complex, but at the same time there are SO many other games coming out that I've yet to pick up, that spending that money on a new system would just allow me to play less games in the end :(
I'm a Playstation fan, have been all my life, but doesn't mean I'm blind or feel the need to rage about other peoples preferances. I just don't care about the competition really. Stuff mostly works out if you stay out of the stuff you don't care for, or at least respect that people are different. And it seems the Giant Bomb community is a solid bunch.
I honestly don't think being a fan of something is particularly wrong. So long as you're not trolling and being close-minded, I think it's fine.
I'm a Playstation and Nintendo fan, I like to think I'm passionate about both sets of products without irritating people who are excited by XBOX 360 content. I try to avoid mentioning the XBOX for that very reason, and I stay in the Playstation specific boards because, that's what I like talking about.
I'm not sure I'd classify it as traditional fanboyism, but there are "defenders of the faith" here on Giant Bomb. The difference between this website and most others is that our enthusiasts are better spoken and more reasoned in their positions. They rarely call anyone a name for disagreeing and they never accuse any dissenters as being fanboys themselves. They are passionate about their particular console/company and quickly rebuke any unwarranted attack upon it, but the majority of them are very smart in how they do this. That is one of the reasons that Giant Bomb has acquired this reputation. And, as someone has said, this community is fairly small, so the majority of the miscreants normally found on game sites are still having "fun" annoying people on those other larger websites. Given time, Giant Bomb may also succumb to that inevitability, but maybe by then we'll all be too obsessed with our sexy robot wives to care.
Nah the fanboyism is much more under the surface here its deep currents are there you just dont see them as obvious fanboyism takes much more grand and deep meanings here. Most of the bad stuff is the forum being filled with quite a few blatant jackasses that have no fanboy affiliation but just insult and ruin topics for the hell of it.
I think this needs a 'system wars' board, a place to argue so general can stay at peace.
This is my favourite community but I'd like the forum format to change a bit. I'm a Nintendo fan that owns everything this gen but thinks the Wii is worst system ever made. I like bashing it and its fanboys as much as they like crying about me hating it.
Also, a lot of Gamespot users are moving here like myself, I have over 12 thousand posts there.

I disagree it will always spill over. It would be like saying we can go fight each other in Arkansas but when we go home we have to be nice.
Also I agree it is 2 things. 1) a slightly more mature gamer community. 2) the number of people that own multiple systems.
There aren't enough people to start a fight over a system. Most people play the same system and the same games. Anybody else tries to post a thread about a different game, it sinks because nobody can relate to it.
Most of the Internet consists of retarded 14-year-old boys. We're more sophisticated than that. The average Giantbomb user is closer to 17 or 18 years old, and only has mild brain damage.

Exactly. I find that this userbase is more mature than others (duh) by leaps and bounds. And double jumps. LEAPS AND BOUNDS I SAY! I have my preference but I acknowledge the sweetness of the other systems, as do most of us.
1up is really sony biased i've noticed. We've got our fair share, i'm probably a little bias towards microsoft, because all i have is an xbox. I really want a ps3 but i can't aford one and play the games i want to play.
I think 1up is just full of Re-Re's that have to make 50 comments at once, so depending on the time of day, you'll think the userbase is full of one kind or the other.
Also, Giantbomb fanboyism is about how many of each system you own, not which is better. (I'm totally lying, but that would be funny)
Smarter people. For the most part, older. And there is already such an established hate for fanboy talk around here, I think most people think twice about what they say.
i also think its because Jeff, Ryan, and the others don't do anything to instigate fanboyism . IGN is the worst offender of this with "editorials" about the state of the system wars or saying that Mass Effect 2 is so much better than Uncharted 2.
I feel the PC is underrep`ed here. Thus games like the latest Stalker, Call of Pripyat. drift on by. And i am actually suprised by it, because I know the history of some of the staff, professional. But the attutude is very good on the part of most of the posters, and that in part reflects on the staff, also.

As someone who is himself a raving fanboy, I'll say there are plenty of us. :D
Age doesn't really have anything to do with it. We have our fair share of teens and plenty of trolls. It's not like trolling itself is harshly punished around here. It's just the culture of the site, I think. While there is a slight lack of Wii and PC content, all the staff are generally "well rounded". If there are biases in the staff, they are not emphasized. With fewer arbitrary rules like "no cussing" or whatever, the mods focus more of their time locking threads that are truly derisive. You see plenty of threads around here for or against whatever console. However, the mods wont let a topic devolve into the nonsense you might see on other sites.

MB . . . now, normally, you're pretty cool. I've pm'd you a couple times, you've gotten back with well written, if brief, responses. But I just have to point out your fallacies in your thinking here bro . . . Rats and Roaches are two of the things we know survive the apocalypse . . . so if we were to extinguish the hate Teh Fanboys bring as we extinguish the R&R club, I fear for GB.
