Hey all, I'm setting up a gb TF2 server for fun this weekend and was looking to recruit a couple admins who I could share the duties of setting things up and keeping the peace.
If you have any experience with rconing TF2 or better yet, happen to know a good mod setup send me a PM. If this works ok I may go ahead and set up a CoD server as well. What games are peeps interested in?
Oh also setting up a vent server for kicks as well in case we wanna do some town hall events.
Setting up a Giant Bomb TF2 server...
TF2 Server is a great we have many avid TF2 players on GB. Suggestions for other games people play, Maybe a Counter-Strike Source or a Counter Strike 1.6 server. And for a vent, I think that would be super awesome
I recommend using Mani's Admin Plugin, it's a Metamod:Source-based admin tool that lets admins use a menu-based system as opposed to standard rcon. It's helpful to know rcon as well but it's a handy and customizable tool.
Awesome. Now if only I just need to figure out how to get TF2 to work on my PC. Video card incompatibility, you see. Day of Defeat: Source runs though (graphical glitches and all), so it would probably be okay if I could bypass the video card test.
I could probably get it to run on my laptop, but Source games suffer horrible framerates, and a touchpad sucks for FPS control.
You totally need to have this skin on the server: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/the-offical-giant-bomb-bomb/1541/#1
I guess it's the sort of thing you add to servers rather than individual people add to their game, either way, it's awesome.
Great stuff mate, good to see you doing this as there is a pretty big following of TF2 players on the PC here at GiantBomb. And lord knowd we've been trying to find someone with their own server for awhile now so we can do some more events for TF2. I'd gladly help out as an Admin on the server if you need an extra hand, as for Admin tools I think Lunarbunny provided a link to the most well known and easiest to use, Mani's Admin Plugin.
if you need help admining, I'd be happy to oblige, I play tf2 religiously, and know the basic rcon stuff . As for the actual plugin, I've heard mani/sourcemod are the ones most commonly used, My clan and I are running sourcemod, and it hasn't given us much trouble so far.
PS: please, Please, PLEASE make it nocrit
