I like how he called the reviewers who didn't attach their names to the reviews wimps and yet he goes by Mr. Mouse, and what a silly game he chose to get all worked up over. Granted I only watched the quicklook, but nothing about that game looked fun or interesting.
So apparently Jeff Gerstmann is a "crap reviewer"...

i like i game because i find the base mechanics of shooting things and occasionally doing some jumping puzzles quite enjoyable. therefore it deserves at least 80% and any criticism levelled against it is complete rubbish.
I don't know why, but that websites name reminded me of www.zombo.com
One day in Internet Land, I came across a poorly written article that I didn't agree with so I decided to make a forum post telling people to go read it and give the poorly written article more traffic. Thinking back, I'm not sure why I did it, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.@Superman64 said:

Especially when the OP acts butt-hurt about it.

But if your defence consists of: "I don't think your comment is clever"
Don't be surprised when other people are amused.
I read this as Jeff Gertsman literally reviews crap. I would assume the grades would be based upon several factors such as color, consistency, smell, volume, and the all important presentation of the fecal matter.
I don't think I've ever seen such an attempt to get one game the somewhat respect it deserves. It's not even the Zelda 8.8 reaction where everyone wanted it to be a 9, this guy just wants people to know that Duke isn't a great game nor is it a bad one. The "bad" reviewers are those who gave the review too low a score or too high a score. These people are freaking retarded.
Where is the Hydroxycut of "+20-year-old" unknown video game blogs of developing stuff for an old system?

If one thinks a 5-star scale translates directly to the extremely inaccurate "70 is average" metacritic scale, he's a fucking idiot.
Yeah I like how in the last image on the page, he denotes whether it was a 100 point scale or a 5 star scale, but doesn't address this at all in any of the text! He just claims that anyone who doesn't give 50-85% on any game is crap.
Internet.
wow someone on the internet has a different opinion than me...
If someone says something stupid, don't talk about him...
Actually, just about everyone on that list IS A CRAP REVIEWER. They all do an excellent job of reviewing and exposing crap games. So, to be on that list is an honor, not a shame. Ironically, the guy that posted it is a paid shill for the gaming industry. Go figure.
Ha ha ha, his whole blog is based on the assertion that there is an objective way to critique a video game. Oh, that was a good little giggle. But isn't there at least something approaching an objective way to critique games?

He also points out the people who he thinks scored it too high so its not about him loving duke.Exactly but no one reads that part of it, because they are just as bad as the guy who wrote that article.
Yeah but that's just sauce for the goose. He's decided the proper score, and whomever scores it significantly higher or lower is just wrong and a bad reviewer.
Glad the standard response has been what it was. Also- I'd like to point out that his actual argument is as follows:
Everything in life naturally conforms to the normal distribution. Where opinions are involved, distributions that aren't normal means that the ends of the curves are full of liars.
He's such a fucking retard- Wow.

I never said that there was anything truly objective, just something approximating it. It helps to apply the concept of mathematical limits to this.
Who cares. I'm playing DNF (PC) and I'm enjoying it. I'd say its a solid 70 but no higher. It's still enjoyable to me at least despite some big problems i have with it. If Jeff doesn't like it who cares it's not his cup of tea. However I do think people are giving it more shit then it deserves, but then again it might be worse on consoles who knows. Doesn't mean they're bad reviewers, just an opinion to go on.
I immediately saw the flaw in his logic:
"Overall we would agree that the game deserves somewhere between 65% and 70% as a score, as it matches up with that range of other fair shooters of late."
NOPE. I don't think we do, and he doesn't substantiate that either. That was enough for to not pay any more attention. The rest of it is just statistics that he BS'ed with "math logic".
Seriously? When did the community agree that this game was 65% - 70%? When did we all collectively say "this game is pretty OK"? Jumping puzzles, no thank you.
However, Jeff's review is a second opinion for purchasers. And just like any opinion, so is this Xentax guy's opinion. I am free to ignore it.
I think we should do away with scores all together and just have written reviews, that way people would have to read the review and hear the good, bad, and ugly about a video game rather than just looking at the score and jumping to conclusions without reading the review. Anyone who has gone to System Wars and seen someone say "Game X got an 8.5 instead of a 9.0! lol flop! The game sucks!" knows what I'm talking about.
Lol what a retarded post. I could do this with any game...
Game X deserves Y score, so any reviewer than gives it <Y or >Y is an idiot.
Yeah. It's not like Jeff is one of the most respected reviewers/journalists out there or anything...
