"A limited number of executives/employees from Square Enix's headquarters in Japan will be attending E3 this year, given the recent worldwide spread of H1N1 flu," said the company in a statement.
Japanese developer and publisher Koei told Kotaku that it is only sending a small number of Japanese staff to E3, "due to the current nature of and concern over the influenza A (H1N1). As a result, there will be a limited number of staff from the company's Yokohama-based headquarters attending this year's show," added the company.
Swine Flu Continues To Ravage Everyone's E3 Schedule

That's really, really dumb. I still don't care enough to even read what the hell the swine flu is. Something to do with pigs I guess. Man bacon is delicious.
It sucks but there are legitimate concerns.
If swine flu spreads out of control (like a regular flu), it'll just be another 500K deaths that could have been avoided. I'm thinking about how Japanese also wear masks when they're sick, their government is just being socially conscious not wanting the spread the disease. Additionally, if swine flu mutates again, it could become more serious.
Soooo, is this actually the companies choice or is it the Japanese government placing down constraints on foreign travel? The reason I think this is that it just doesn't seem in Square and Koei's interest to miss E3, and I can't see how they would chose to do this themselves inless they were forced to so to speak.
Cannot believe this. I mean what is it, five deaths in America?! Christ almighty, people are fucking stupid.
Lame about Capcom and Squeenix. But honestly, does anyone give a damn if Koei shows up? No big Dynasty Warriors Super Gundam 27 reveal? DARN.
Well think about how many people, per capita, live in Japan. If one gets Swine Flu, that means a hell of a lot of people could contract as well if they're not careful. I can understand their precautions, but it's still very disappointing. Then again, I think most Japanese companies and publishers would rather wait until TGS or Leipzig.

Thanks Japan, for reminding me that some things will never change. No matter how ridiculous it seems.
Hope they don't find out that regular seasonal influenza causes roughly 36,000 deaths per year in the United States. But I guess this is different because you can't get regular flu from pigs, right?...
...wait, you can't get swine flu from pigs?....
...*sigh*...
Soooo . . .the swine flu is still going strong
That's kinda disappointing news ... however the picture that Brad chose to use in the article is awesome.
Idiots, the fact that people choose to cancel something like this because of a sickness that has a mortality rate close to zero shows how little they actually know about it and just how much they believe what papers write. The silly thing about "swine flu" (which doesn't even originate from pigs) is that covering your mouth won't stop you from getting the virus. Wake up!
Is anyone else under the impression that this swine flu (or rather H1N1 unfluenza) is totally overblown?
I doubt it's even that big of a deal.
This is stupid ass shit.NIHONJIN WA BAKARO DESU YO!
Also, I wish the worst strain of Swine Flu upon Vinny but I also hope for a swift and full recovery.

higher contagious rate. 30% infection rate. 0.4% Case Fatality Ratio. lets say 3 000 000 000 of the worlds population risk being exposed.
30 % of that is 900 000 000 infected. 0.4% of that is 3 600 000 fatalities. most of these will be between 15-50 years old. at least an additional 1 000 000 million elderly and sickly will die not of swine flu directly but because of its severe strain of the healthcare

Japan has gone a bit overboard with the swine flu, I'm out of school for a week since they have shut down every school in my area and a few other prefectures. Also they used to have a hazmat team go on to each plane that arrived in Japan and check everyones temperature. So this isnt that surprising at least to me.
Japan may go "overboard" with their quarantining sometimes, but from what I hear, at least, the Swine Flu is now hitting Japan pretty hard, and with good reason: such a densely packed populous is more susceptible to contracting it. Sending more people over to the US risks the healthy employees travelling, and even has the possibility, now that the Flu has spread to Japan, of further infecting the US. Personally, I wouldn't be all too worried about it unless I was really young or really old, since it *is* just another strain of flu, which can be fought off by a healthy immune system like any other. I also can't see how missing or toning back your performance at the biggest video game convention of the year is good for business. However, if that is the way they feel, then that is the way they feel.
why does it seem like even though the us is getting the most cases of the swine flu, nobody in this country seems to give a shit, yet everywhere else in the world people are scared shitless?
