Hey, The Utterly selfish giantbomb challenge is here!!!!!!
You may be wondering what it is, well i'll tell you. I've decided to set a challenge to all members of giantbomb to find me a game. This game has to be within my set guidlines and the first comment naming a game that i think fits best wins an amazing secret prize. This prize is amazing as its unbelieveable crap. Its a youtube link to my friend falling backwards off a chair when playing a "scary" flash game. Why you'd want to watch i dont know...but still, thats the prize. WOW!
Oh yeah, its a selfish competition because im trying to find a game for my family to play this christmas and i decided to make my request of your knowledge into a challenge! So even if you dont give a shit about me or the prize but you do know a game. please do say.
Guidlines.
1. It has to be PS2. 2. Has to be for 2-4 players splitscreen. 3. Can be any genre but suitable for a family game. My Family is me, mum, dad and 2 younger sisters (13 and 17). So a FPS wouldnt really be a great type of game for us all to enjoy.
And thats it! But heres tips.
1.For game ideas think of Mario Kart Wii. I dont specifically mean only karting games. (but those are good) think of the accessibility, the fun, the fact i can enjoy it as well as my dad (who pointed out i never stopped at traffic lights in burnout). That sort of thing. 2. Don't be a gaming prick. I.e. if its a japanese import game (im in the UK) i'm not going to get it, no matter how amazing it is. Similarily if its a rare indy darling. 3. Please avoid peripherals. This will probably only be played this christmas and i dont want a crap load of shit wasting space.
I personally enjoy the Extreme G series, and Wipeout is alright too. Not really family centric, but not offensive either. I honestly can't think of any other 'mascot' type racers for the PS2 worth the time.

Both my sisters loved Croc 2. (still play it) The more i think the more i reckon picking up a Gamecube or N64 might be easier. so much mario fun there.
It's very family friendly, and it's an alright game as well. I can't remember for sure, but I think you could play it with a second player. Not 100% sure on that though.
The Adventures of Cookie & Cream (or Kuri Kuri Mix in other parts of the world) is a two-player split screen game that relies heavily on co-op play to progress.
The Buzz quiz games are pretty much the perfect games for a family Christmas gathering. There are quite a few to choose from - including ones based on movies, music & good old fashioned general knowledge, so you can tailor your choice based on what your family is into, or even get multiple ones to vary it up a bit.
It does include peripherals, which breaks your guidelines - BUT they're only small buzzer things and don't take up a tonne of space. I'm sure you'll be able to find a corner of cupboard space somewhere to store them. It's not like you'll be stuck with great big guitar peripherals with no where to keep them. You'll have some small buzzers that can be shoved into the corner of a cupboard somewhere and forgotten about.
