If it wasn't for the controversial Gamespot review, do you think Skyward Sword could potentionally win GOTY `11?
Was Skyward Sword tarnished by Gamespot's review?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
yeah.
i have to admit that all the time i've been playing it. ive been thinking this game would be sooooo much better if that guy Tom Mc Shea from gamespot liked it 1.5 points more than he did.
its, as you say 'tarnished' it for me.
If it has any impact on another site's GOTY decision, then that website will lose credibility in my eyes. GOTY is not an objective thing, and is not determined by review aggregation. I still think a website or two might name Zelda GOTY without regard for Gamespot's non-controversial review.
Gamespot has about as much credibility as a Gamefaqs message board, so I doubt it. I think to some extent, Skyrim drank it's milkshake. They came out at a out the same time and both scratch the "large world and swords" itch, at an unfairly deconstructionist level. Edit: and though it goes without saying, maybe it didn't resonate with critics in the same way it appears to have with the OP. You are allowed to like games critics don't heap praise on..

My question is legit, how am I trolling? scuse me, ravenlight, do you know what trolling means?
Legitimate, yes. Intelligent, no.

ok then,
tell us in your opinion how will the gamespot review have any bearing what so ever on giantbombs game of the year discussions.

I agree, and not to be a dick about it but I think Skyrim is like the big boys Zelda now. Zelda has changed about 5% since Link to the Past where as Skyrim is a whole world of change, literally.
Well I'd give the game a 0 for having motion controls, so I don't find Gamespot's review controversial in the slightest haha If you can plug in a real controller and play it, it can have a 50.
@x5el said:
well giantbomb used to be affiliated with gamespot, correct jetset? or am i wrong?
No. The Giant Bomb staff used to work at Gamespot, but the two sites have never had any affiliation.
Gamespot's review will effect it's chances of winning Gamespot's GotY, and GiantBomb's review will effect it's chances of winning GiantBomb's GotY.
(Seems like that shouldn't have to be said.)

I thought the GB staff used to work for Gamespot. sorry if I'm wrong
the keyword there is 'used', past tense, not any more.
unless the giantbomb guys are scared of the guys at gamespot and the gamespot guys bully the giantbomb guys in the playground after work and force them to rethink the game of the year deliberations otherwise they'll thump them in the arm pretty hard.
i could be wrong though, sorry if i am

you know, if you actually tried the motion controls you'd realise that its fantastic and work perfectly.

Who the hell goes to Gamespot?
Considering it's the most visited gaming website on the entire internet, behind IGN... quite a few people.

The review tarnished the whole console in general. Even the games I've already played.
I can't even look Satoru Iwata in the eye.
Gamespot giving Skyward Sword a 7.5 is like Destructoid giving AC2 a 4 back in the days.
In both of these situations, the reviewer speaks out with opinions, not facts. Good reviews are the ones that states facts, not opinions. Because, you know, I don't give a shit about some unknown journalist from another country's opinion over a said game. I really don't.

I would argue that almost every review ever written since the beginning of time is based on a combination of opinions and facts. This ain't a zero-sum game, son!
The giantbomb staff ysed to work at gamespot in 2007/2008. Besides that common affiliation there is nothing that binds the two companies together. They are different corporations run by different companies.
Therefore the score on gamespot has NO MEANING to the GOTY of giantbomb or the other way around. Whether this guy is 'trolling' or not at least answer his questions you jerks.
Well, people have already called you out for trolling so my job is done. All I have left to say...or rather ask, is that can we please, please have a posting requirement in place before people can actually make threads? It would cut out a lot of this bullshit whether it's an actual troll or not.
Also, I feel this picture is appropriate to this thread somehow:
If a website was going to give Skyward Sword game of the year but then saw that Gamespot gave it a 7.5 and didn't, that website would loose all credibility and their game of the year choice wouldn't matter.
Let's see if I can put a stop to this...
Since it's a given that Gamespot is soooo all powerful (see it addressing the adoring mob at Nuremberg) and evil (its mustache bristling in the sunshine) it is obvious that this has not just destroyed this Zelda game for everyone but it has ruined the entire Zelda franchise. Nintendo should fold its tent and go home. Hitler, the SS, the Gestapo and every other Nazi all working at peak efficiency couldn't have done a better job.

Godwin's Law has now been activated. The thread must now end.

so i'm curious if anyone thinks skyward sword was a serious goty contender in the first place.
It has a bearded flying whale god.
It IS my 2011 GOTY. Fuck Skyrim.
