I like indie games a lot so, with that in mind:
10. Life is Strange
9. Fallout 4
8. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, It has so much interesting gameplay elements that I can forgive a lot of the shittier parts of it.
7. Snakebird, Best pure puzzle game I have played in a long time.
6. Plug & Play
5. Bloodborne
4. Super Mario Maker
3. Everybody's Gone to Rapture, That game is completely misunderstood by the mainstream press. I understand that the slow pace would turn people off and it's totally fair to not like it, but the pace is part of what make me like this game so much.
2. Her Story
1. The Beginner's Guide, I think using level design aesthetically with such intent was incredibly potent.
A bunch of honorable mentions:
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it is for me the most impressive looking world of the year. I could never get past over the feeling of the combat, which I thought was awful. Still it had plenty of great moments, the Baron questline being the best. I have finished the game but I think I should've stopped after 20 hours. I kept listening to people telling me I had to see it through. I really didn't care anymore by the end of it.
Quiplash, it made me laugh so much.
Helldivers, I actually enjoy failing at this game.
Until Dawn, I love the deaths in this game. They're amazingly gross which made me enjoy doing stupid horror movie shit.
Rocket League, Had a lot of fun playing with friends.
