I'm listening to Opeth's The Roundhouse Tapes. Pretty bad ass if you're into black metal.

Opeth are black metal now? Oh jesus, I always figured them as melodic progressive Death. >_>
The National Anthem - Radiohead
"Opeth are black metal now? Oh jesus, I always figured them as melodic progressive Death. >_>I only said black metal because on one of the tracks on The Roundhouse Tapes, Mikael describes Opeth as being black metal. Not sure it even matters what you label them as, they kick ass.

Opeth fucking rock either way!

The National Anthem - Radiohead"
"DualReaver said:Nah it's just metal and its millions of genres/sub-genres."Opeth are black metal now? Oh jesus, I always figured them as melodic progressive Death. >_>Melodic Progressive death? Is that a form of execution?!?"
The National Anthem - Radiohead"
Piano Lessons - Porcupine Tree
lil known fact lead singer (Steven Wilson) of Porcupine Tree works with Opeth quite a bit and does some vocals on their album "Damnation".
"Arkthemaniac said:Aw Jee whiz, and here I am listening to, "Blowin' in the Wind," the calmest song ever. I wish I was cool...Melodic Progressive death? Is that a form of execution?!?"Only if you turn it up loud enough."

For example, when discussing this I was told that "The difference between black metal and death metal is that black metal is focused on occult lyrics".
... Which in my opinion would mean that it's death metal. Just because you change the content of your lyrics doesn't make it a new genre.
The only thing I can hear the difference on is the difference between death metal and symphonic black. There's a clear, musical, difference. And as such, in my opinion, it would make more sense to refer to symphonic black as black metal, while all other black metal should be referred to as death metal. For the record, I don't enjoy any of that stuff and quite frankly don't understand how people (including some of my friends) find it good.
But then again most people I've met have been really immature about the black metal genre, coming of as fake fans of music as a whole, which haven't left me with a good impression of the fanbase at all.
It's like they don't listen to black metal because it's good, but because they want to stand out. It's so immature.
One week they're like "omg dude, dimmu borgir rocks!" next week they're like "omg dimmu borgir is famous now so they suck, I'm gonna cry in my momas basement". :P
Fake fans are fake :>
The start is kinda meh, but it gets better.
