Have you guys seen google's new web browser they're releasing tomorow? Its called google chrome, and it looks like it could be really cool. I'm not sure I'm ready to give up my precious firefox just yet, but I'll definately check out google chrome. This blog post explains the stuff it is supposed to do: http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-09-01-n47.html
EDIT: Its launched. Download it here
Google Chrome
Holy crap! How did they manage to keep this secret until 1 day before release? I'm not switching, I'm perfectly fine with Firefox 3.
Looks like it's combining alot of features from other browsers to their own.
Also, I love that this needs to be announced as if it were a feature.
" Google Chrome will use special tabs. Instead of traditional tabs like those seen in Firefox, Chrome puts the tab buttons on the upper side of the window, not below the address bar."
In any case, I'll give it a go.
I just heard of this.
As far as I know, Google's ad money is all of Firefox's revenue, so I don't know why they would make a new browser.
The only way I'd switch to this from Firefox is if the interface was more responsive and it was faster. Firefox just feels way too bloated. Opera is so much better but many web sites don't work with it.
I just want a browser that can surf the web decently, that's all I want.
"I just heard of this.I've just had a read of the storyboards on the blog post I linked to, and it definately seems like speeding processes up is their main aim.

It seems a bit strange for them to come up with a browser when they've supported Firefox so much over the years. Nothing new in terms of features, but they seem to be taking a new approach to it by focusing on the performance instead, which is interesting. Most new browsers don't do so well because they just pile on more features (though usually the new browsers are just shells of an existing browser engine), so perhaps their new approach might let them get their foot in the door.
the google.com/chrome link is still returning the 404 error. Come on google. Hurry up, I want to try it out!!!!!
Link not working for me, i cant wait to see how it is though, its gonna have to be good to compete with FF3.

Yes but you should read, each tab has its own address bar and buttons, and its own history, as the tab is seperate form the browser, meaning if a webpage causes an issue, only the tab needs closing, not the full application, as its independent. So there is more to it being the tabs position have moved.
I think I may have to switch over to Google Chrome.
Looking good - should be nice to try this out - I can't imagine it'll offer anything more than Firefox in its first few iterations but I bet we'll see it develop pretty rapidly.
The great thing is, it uses the WebKit engine (the same as Safari) - web developers have been going on for ages about how nice it would be to see all browsers based around one engine, so with Google pushing it, we could hopefully start seeing this happen... WebKit also happens to be, next to Opera, the most standards compliant rendering engine as of the moment, which means we're either going to see Gecko and Mosaic fade away, or rush to catch up... at least, I hope.
I'll definitely give it a shot. I love Firefox, and it'll take a lot to oust it from its position as my primary browser, but this looks like it's shaping up to be pretty good.
I wants to try it. I went to gears.google.com/chrome but it sent me to google.com. >.> I wants to try it. =[
It's released!!! Go and download it now!

1) Okay, so how am I supposed to get flash and java working in this browser?
"Okay, so how am I supposed to get flash and java working in this browser?"Flash worked instantly for me. Haven't tried anything java yet.
So far, I want to like it. Its simple and easy to use and pages load quickly, but there are a couple of little problems I don't like - scroll speed is too fast (and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it), tooltips apear in the botom corner. So I'm sticking with firefox for now, but chrome is open source, so people are going to fix these problems, so I might revisit it in a while.
