Over the course of the past three Paper Mario games we've gotten a pretty interesting range of Characters. From a postal service Koopa-Paratroops too a female Bob-omb. All pretty interesting casts. And theres still so many different creatures from the Mario universe that the new game could work with.

Which Creature type would you like to see most as a partner in the upcoming game? Maybe you guys want to see some of the old character types like Goombas.

For me I personally I really, really want to see a Shy-Guy Companion. They've been in so many Mario games, usually as just background minions. It'd be really interesting to actually have one as a partner and see what their like. Also another one, (Just because I think their cute in an odd way) Bloopers. Be fun to just have one of these guys float (Or flop) Around with you on your adventure. I am really hoping they don't just do the same thing and give us the same types they have in the previous games.

I'd like to see either a Raven or a Monty Mole.

I want to see a male Boo or a female Coopa...Or Luigi. I want Luigi as a companion.

A boo would be an awesome companion. How about a piranha plant on wheels? Yeaaah that'd be both stupid and amazing.

Yeah I figured as much. Though to be fair, most partners so far have been 'non-traditional' versions of their species (blue Koopa, pink or white Bob-omb etc). That said, I'd still rather have a traditional Boo than some weird cloud monster.

There are plenty of Monty Moles in the first Paper Mario. Most of them appear in chapter 2 on Mt. Rugged. Later on, in chapter 6 in the Flower Fields there's sort of a plague of Monty Moles that you have to exterminate. The music for this part is pretty cool.

Yes I've seen the image you're probably referring to, but like I said above, since every partner so far has been a special version of their species, seeing this regular one made me think it was maybe only a placeholder or a temporary partner of sorts, since nothing has REALLY been confirmed yet, right? Still, I'd settle for a regular chain chomp, but if they could, why not just give us a golden one like the one in Mario Sunshine?

I think a Bullet Bill partner would be pretty cool.

Also I really like a lot of the enemies from Super Mario RPG. I especially like the Crook and it's variation the Sakit.

Yes! It's funny you should mention this. I remember getting the official soundtrack CD and being miffed that this track wasn't on there.

I think the correct option is a Hammer Bro. That could lead to some interesting battle mechanics.

Man, agreed that Flurrie was totally fucking stupid. I'm all for them inventing original characters; I thought Vivian was pretty good, even if she is the "shy girl" stock character that Japanese writers love to put in everything. But Flurrie is just this gross prima donna who basically just acts like your creepy overweight aunt who wears way too much lipstick. She wasn't funny, and her attacks were mostly terrible (blowing enemies away gives you no experience).

Anyway, my vote for a partner type is a Thwomp:

I remember the snow chapter in the original Paper Mario had a town full of penguins so when I first played that game I was psyched because I thought one of the penguins would join you but... it didn't happen. Ever since then I always wanted a penguin companion in the Paper Mario series. Perhaps their use outside of battle would let you swim through cold water or something? 
 
Nonetheless, the wait for this game is absolutely killing me. KILLING ME.

Man, Luigi's adventures in the Waffle Kingdom are one of the funniest things Nintendo has ever written. It's definitely one of the top reasons that I still remember Thousand Year Door so fondly. There just wasn't anything nearly as funny in Super Paper Mario, while Paper Mario 64 was a little too by-the-book with a lot of its writing and wasn't nearly as outlandish.

I would love to play a game where one of your partners is the mechanic Buzzy Beetle that has a wrench on his shell.

No Hammer Bros love? Shameful. Also, as others have said I'd like to see Bowser in the party however unlikely.

I think a Thwomp Scientist is the best idea of all time.

Actually a Shyguy analyzing character (basically being the Goombella of the game) that had the quirk of being...well, shy, would probably be pretty awesome.

Hm, I don't know, we kind of got a LOT of Bowser in Inside Story and I personally love seeing him portrayed as this selfish, dumb yet totally lovable bully, that yellow star spite was such a buzzkill in that game.

@BisonHero: I don't remember disliking Flurrie all that much, but I remember thinking she had kind of boring attacks, and that I used her the least of the entire cast. I was really fond of Vivian because I never bought that she would join your party until she actually did, and while she certainly was the "shy girl" archetype, being a guy in the original version was a bit more unique (even if "really affeminate crossdresser" is also, totally a character type over there).

As for Twomp character I could really see one as a scientist. I'd love to see one as a side character (later midboss and wearing a labcoat of course) in bowsers castle, talking to Kamek & Bowser and maybe being their Q or something.

A totally hyper and pumped up Ninji (kind of similar to Missile from Ghost Trick) would also be crazy, as would any inclusion of a Buzzy Beetle character, or maybe a nerdy Monty Mole, riding in a Kuriboe's Shoe.

Just...no fucking Piantas...worst character type ever.

A Shy Guy of some variety is an absolute must. A Chargin' Chuck would be awesome, but unlikely.

I don't want him to stop being the big jerk we've come to know. I just think it'd be interesting to see him show his soft side again, that hidden very deep in that black heart. Overall thought I like the Bowser in Paper Mario where hes the more commical villain.

I want a Paper Mario-style subplot involving Daisy and Tatanga. Rife for self-referential humor related to Super Mario Land and the fact that no one gives a shit about Tatanga anymore.

Yeah, I agree that it's highly unlikely the crown is an actual partner. It's probably just an NPC that doesn't fight that follows you around for 10-20 minutes as part of some story sequence.
