What makes TB and people like him on YouTube different than what GiantBomb does?

Although I probably shouldn't, I'll throw my two cents in here. TB is the perfect reminder of why anonymity on the internet doesn't matter. TB has been operating under the same name on the internet since long before he hit it on youtube, and the vast majority of people are either completely oblivious or doesn't give a shit about the stuff he did before he got "famous". Just consider the fact that the way he operates these days is an extremely cleaned up version of what he used to do, and he still rubs a lot of people the wrong way (as evidenced in this thread).

It's just sort of a sad reality that the road to "youtube stardom" in many cases means doing some pretty distasteful things.

I would assume there's more to it than just taking the same engine and making more content for it. If anything it's probably more like a substantial expansion, which means it might as well be it's own stand-alone thing as it would probably only limit the consumer base if people actually had to own Arkham City to play it. Just think about it, how many people do you think still owns Arkham City ? and if they don't how many are willing to re-buy it just so they can play Origins ? We've already seen plenty of way less substantial DLC being sold as stand-alone products. It's just easier this way.

I really liked 3 and don't know why everyone hated it so much.

I thought the same way. I wonder if it comes down to someones approach to the game. I never come to AC games for story, I just sort of load the game and meander for a while. Sometimes I complete a story mission, sometimes I just stab some dudes, sometimes I feel like wandering around searching for feathers. I felt that ACIII was designed for that kind of laid back experience.

Couldn't agree more. I remember being disappointed in the games back when I cared about the story, but at this point if you play the games for that you haven't really gotten the memo. I mean the developers themselves have talked about how they don't enjoy that stuff. The games are now basically fun open-world toyboxes with a lot of varied and interesting things to do, and to that end 4 seems to be taking a giant leap.

@the_laughing_man: Dude, I'm not even talking about TB. All I was doing was talking about the "Can you imagine if this happened to GiantBomb?" comment.

@the_laughing_man: I didn't say he was wrong, I was just pointing out that if something like this were to happen to GB they would have the proper paperwork and legal team to back them up. While most YT guys just gets screwed over.

Not gonna watch the video (since it's TB) but if it's about what I think it's about isn't one of the BIG differences between a site like GB and most YT channels that they actually do ask for permission. I mean we've heard them talk about how certain companies only allow clips of certain lengths etc several times.

The whole internet comments discussion is just history repeating itself (just like how this new devil music is bad for our kids). I wouldn't call his talk uninformed, but it lacked some perspective. There's plenty of other sources that has a long history you can learn lessons from that are very relevant to what he's talking about. Just as an example, in the start of the talk he's basically talking about becoming famous, something people have dealt with for centuries. It's very easy to think that internet has changed the world and everything is new, but that's really not the case.

Volition ? Although it might not just be as much of a rebound as just being inconsistent.

At this point I mostly just watch QLs. Even stopped listening to the bombcast. Not really interested in their opinions anymore, just looking for a good presentation of the games.
