It's just plain fun. Mastered this game and damn proud of that, it's hard as balls! Slow mo Red Hot Kicks, funny, colourful characters, as hard as you want it to be, great finale and great unlockables.

THIS is the best one. It's also by far the hardest of the series. Proud to say I made this one my bitch as well, after breaking about three controllers in rage (not even kidding). Great story, Vergil is a boss man, lots of unlockables, epic final battle, monstrous music, and of course, REALLY hard - search Beowulf Dante Must Die on YouTube to see what I mean.

Maybe it was my love for Yoshi, maybe it was the colourful, playful graphics and textures, maybe it was the snazzy boss battles, maybe it was the lullaby-esque music, maybe it was the final boss (still one of the best video game tunes ever), I don't know, but this will probably always be my favourite Mario game.

I never played this game past easy mode, or with any character other than Cinder, but I loved it and still play it today. All of the characters are beyond cool, the combos are fun, the finishing moves are either hilarious or just plain brutal. Eyedol is also just the best character in a fighting game ever, for me.

The best Donkey Kong game of them all for me. Great boss battles, every world is a lot of fun, the music is gorgeous, it just makes my black heart sing, all of it.

Hyper Sonic didn't come into it until the next game(s), but for whatever reason this is my favourite Sonic game. Still play it with mates from time to time, it's just great fun. The Super Sonic thing I've always loved too.

MASSIVELY underrated, but a lot of people who do know the game hate it, and I guess their arguments hold water. But this was my little treasure, still play it now.

The first Pokémon in which I had a proper idea of what the shit I was doing. The designs of the pocket monsters started getting silly after these games, but this one had it all for me - lots of inventive creatures, cool attacks, catchy music, a fair storyline, loads to do...Not the original, and I wouldn't even say the best (that would be Soul Silver for me), but my favourite.

The older you get, the better this becomes. It's funny, fun to play, quite challenging, funky beats, and just brings back a whole lot of memories for me.

I'd go as far to say this is the most played game of all time, what with all the mods you can get for it online now. I don't think I really need to say anything, it's a true classic that if you don't like, there's something wrong, me ode.

Let's get the Mario games out the way...this is so short and so sweet. Completely unlike the other Mario games, not a goomba in sight or anything. I still remember crying like a baby for hours because I got a Game Over on that bloody cloud boss near the end.

A game-changing game. It's seen re-release after hack after oh God everything. It's still massive fun to play now, if slightly dated. The DS version is pretty fantastic too.

Liked this one better than the original (which was also fandabbydosey). So many callbacks to the Mario games of old, a real fan treat. Needed more Yoshi though (doesn't everything?).

My little introduction to RPG games proper. Can still play this today and have a great time. I never played Super Mario RPG as a kid, which I'm kind of glad about, I don't like it too much, but it's alright. This was more my thing.

NOW we're talking old school! Remakes of the Mario Bros series from the 80s, and damn good ones at that. You could play this (these) game(s) for hours and never come close to beating them. Or was that just me?
PS I can beat them now so shut up.

Reinvented the first person shooter genre. How I WISH I could play this on N64 with my old mates at one of their houses at 10pm, surrounded by toast their mum had made us, playing this game til the wee hours of the morning. I still utterly adore everything about this.

My second favourite first person shooter of all time. So, so, so much to do, fun story, lots and lots to unlock, decent music, and the characters. Oh, the characters, I don't think some of them will ever be matched for wackiness (see Robofish and Handyman to see what I mean). According to the game, I once spent 18 hours straight playing this, which is just insane by anyone's standards.

There's going to be a few of these. The original, which still gives me the chills even though I could probably beat this game with my eyes closed, literally. The music was perfect, the monsters were perfect, the boss battles...well, Tyrant was perfect. I just, oh God, I could talk about this game forever. Amazing, just amazing.

Possibly the best remake I'm familiar with, be that in movies, games, albums, whatever. It's STILL scary to this day. They added so much but didn't change the formula. Lisa Trevor is the most horrifying...thing, I've ever seen in a game. I also beat it on Invisible Enemy mode, which was ridiculously hard, obviously, so I guess I liked it, ha.

I want to say my favourite RE game, but that might not be the case. Nemesis is just the best. They ruined him after this, in everything he appeared in, but here he's as he should've been: Terrifying, menacing, impossible to kill...Mercenaries Mode was great too.

This game got a lot of hate, but my only issue with it was how they dealt with the storyline for RE3 (see above. Poor shitty Nemesis). Another one I mastered. Actually I didn't like the new side story they put in much either. Aside from that, a LOT of fun.

Ok enough Resis. I think everyone pretty much agrees this is the best Silent Hill game, possibly because of Mr Pyramid Head. Whilst I do love that thing, the game's story is one of the best out there, the monsters are imaginative and repulsive, it's not too difficult if you don't want it to be, could play it every day (maybe).

Or 'Exhumed' as it was known on my side of the pond. I do love my ancient Egypt stuff, so this game was a premature wet dream come true in my younger years. Again, I still play this, it's pure fun with stunning boss battles and scenery. Massively underrated.

Speaking of ancient Egypt. I've played this since growing up and it didn't do much for me, but when I was younger this game was the daddy, especially when played with friends.

The only time in my life that I've prayed was to ask God to let me play as Nitros Oxide in this game. What a sad morning it was when I woke up and found out my wish hadn't been granted. Still, one of the best kart racing games of all time, far surprassing any Mario Kart game in my opinion.

I preferred this game over any of the Crash games. I picked it up again last year and got pretty far in it actually, had the same kind of blast I did when I was younger. I can't quite put my finger on why I like the game so much, sadly.

I've played most all the Metroid games now, this one is by far my favourite of the lot. The feeling of isolation, the environments, the clever but not impossible puzzles, the music, the boss battles...Actually, I think this game has my favourite boss battle of all time, when you fight Meta Ridley. Breathtaking.

The best Worms game, always will be. Weird and wonderful weapons mixed with some damn difficult missions, loads of customisation options and plenty to unlock for the multiplayer games just make this one take the crown.

I MUCH prefer The Sims 2 now, the original hasn't aged too great. But the amount of time I pumped into the original, creating my custom Sims with custom skins I stole from online, trying to create dramas, having a great laugh when I create my friends then drown them in the pool after marrying them to other men, aw, bliss...

I hate wrestling and to be honest I wasn't THAT into it even when this game was never out of my Playstation. The amount of my life this game swallowed was crazy, mostly when playing with friends. It hasn't aged particularly well at all, but making my own wrestler was the most fun I could've asked for at that point in my life.

R.I.P. Spyro :( Come on, who doesn't like this game? It's so colourful, so much fun, so much to do, was just perfect for my young self. Quite shameful that I had to use a walkthrough to get through it, but I don't anymore (even though some bits do still give me trouble, which is the sign of a good game I suppose).

It's crazy how many people you can talk to about this game and they'll all agree they love(d) it! I can still pick it up and play it from time to time, I've no idea why, I just think it's great for what it is. It's painfully easy, obviously, but that doesn't seem to matter.

My first Final Fantasy and as such, my favourite. It's clear to everyone, including me, that VII was better in pretty much every way, but I guess I loved the romance and the GFs in this game. The story, the characters, the music (of course!) and all that, they didn't screw any of that up.

My love affair with this game was pretty brief, I think I just got frustrated in the end. But there's no denying its greatness. It's so addictive, there's so many different paths you can take, so many ways to improve your wee fella...I think it's one you just have to play to understand.

Another racing game I love. It's chock full of flaws, but I love South Park and all its characters and this game is a perfect snapshot of when the show was at its peak, in my opinion.

It ripped off so many other games, but I was young and didn't care, still don't really. A colourful, cheerful game with a very fair difficulty and a good amount to keep you busy if you like that sort of thing.

One of many underrated SNES games. I still haven't beaten it without cheating to some extent, it's proper tough [UPDATE SEPT. 2013: I finally beat it on SNES!]. I used to tell my Mum and Dad I was going to grow up to be one of the Bobbins Bros...still no idea why.

One of the best purchases ever. Again, this is damn hard. It's kinda like Resident Evil for kids, full of clever homages to classic monster movies, plenty of them to kill in all sorts of crazy manners, it's long, and it's perfect for a night in with the lads.

I don't think I've completed a mission in this game in my life! I, like so many others, just loved to play it to shoot police officers, steal motorbikes, crash them into trains before hijacking those too, all from a top-down perspective that for some reason made it all the funnier.

I went ballistic for this game just last year. I was so gutted when I finished it :( Can't wait for the upcoming sequel. It's so addictive, funny, clever, all sorts of goodness.

The best of the series in my opinion. It has some of the worst, if not THE worst, voice acting ever, but that just adds to its charm. Different pathways to choose, plenty of interesting creatures, addictive as all Hell of course...just love it.

Got it as an American import. Despite the countless hours wasted on blowing on the cartridge, I loved this game. One of the harder Kirby games too. It's a child's dream to be honest, but I'll never, ever tire of playing it - if only for Meta Knight, my favourite Nintendo character I think.

The original...and I don't think you can really get a BEST, can you? But I got pretty great at this game and it inspired me to try harder on a real guitar. Was great for the parties I was having every weekend at that age.

The best Dragonball game to date. It doesn't have the crazy huge character roster of Tenkaichi 3 (which lets you play as King Cold!), but it does have so much replay value, a bunch of stuff to unlock, coolish music, a fair roster...AND it's so easy to master!

Still my favourite for its set up, cool boss battles, mind-blowing-for-the-time levels, the different pathways you could take...I dunno, another childhood favourite.

Let's face it, any Mario Party game is perfect for a party. This one was my favourite in the day though, not even sure why. Would still recommend now.

This was in the same category as Goldeneye when I was a nipper, so many sleepovers HAD to have this game or it was over. It's aged not so well in my opinion, but it was the beginning of one of the biggest game franchises ever, and deservedly so.

I loved Smash Bros Brawl, but it just...dunno, didn't have the charm this game had. A staple of my teenage years, this game gave all of us the time of our lives. I'm still raging they removed my favourite character after this game. Poor Mewtwo...

One of the toughest racing game series of them all as far as I'm aware. The original is pure nostalgia now, but the other two games are just as great in their own rights. Good old F-Zero :)

You might be surprised to hear, but pretty much every Toy Story game is the tits. I haven't played Toy Story 3 but I've heard it follows this tradition. This one was a ton of fun, was very similar to Mario 64 in its mission structure, had lots of platforming, toys to shoot with your laser...aw it's hard to explain what makes it so great, but it just is. Another childhood fave. Won't include Toy Story Racer in this list, but it was good too.

Fell in love with this in the arcades and was lucky enough to get it on PSX. Great characters, a real challenge to beat, lots to learn and master...not such a good idea to play with friends, trouble leads that way.

Took AGES to find this game at the time. What bloody fun it was, if a little hard at times. Lots of cool tributes to films and their genres, a good laugh to play with mates too would you believe?

Lights out, guerilla radio! Everyone remembers the soundtrack to this game, even if they don't reckon much to the songs themselves, like me. A very competitive game, which only served to make it all the more enjoyable.

"More like King Dumb Farts". The game is so, so, so gay but that didn't matter much at the time, still doesn't really. Very addictive RPG with lots of snazzy references to Disney and Final Fantasy...but you're still a retard swinging a giant key around. Meh.

No idea how I found this little gem in the first place, but I did love it. Was a relatively short game and was sadly very similar to bloody Yu-Gay-Oh in concept, but if you can ignore those two factors, you'll have a lot of fun with this one.

Hate all you like, everyone who has played this agrees it's just the best thing ever. Literally hundreds of characters to use, tons of hidden goodies, not very difficult whatsoever but that doesn't make a bit of difference. Seriously, try it.

Was never a fan of Mega Man, but I was sold from day 1 on the trailer to this game. In hindsight, maybe it's not that great, but I can still play it and have fun, but some of the stuff you have to do to get everything is bloody ridiculous.

Rare for me to be as engrossed in a game for as long as I was with this game these days. Lots of fun, very funny, plenty to do, quite nostalgic already. The first Rockstar (and so far, only) game I played through til the very end. [UPDATE SEPT 2013: Add RDR to that]

Takes a LOT to genuinely scare me anymore; like the rest of the gaming public, we've pretty much seen it all by now. But this was different. Will keep you busy and on the edge of your seat a lot of the time. So refreshing.

Obviously very few people will play this game anymore, but I'm proud to say I was in camp Fallout before the release of the third game. At the time, this was just brilliant - I'd play it now if I could be arsed installing it and tearing myself away from the other stuff I'm playing.

But I'm not some retro-is-best-always faggot. I can say with no fear of contradiction that this changed EVERYTHING. Some said it was just Oblivion with guns, but that's so far from the truth. A massive nuclear wasteland to explore, a ton of unique weapons and characters, interesting side quests...will suck up a LOT of your time.

Whilst I don't pretend this is my favourite game of all time, and I'm not even close to close to finishing it (no typo), I can appreciate the sheer scale of the game, the amount there is to do, the massive variety of spells, monsters, quests, potions...You hear of people completely giving up their social lives for this game all the time, and it's clear to see why.

I have not, and probably never will, finish this game. It deserves to be on this list just because it's so. Bloody. Hard! But, it's fair, which makes it ok. There's again a ton of stuff to do in the game, despite its relative linearity. You haven't known pain until you've tried this game.

Really I could've picked either this or Calamity Trigger, both games are as good as each other...but this has more characters and much more to do. The Blazblue games are dangerously addictive, full of fascinating, colourful characters, a deep and interesting story, a ton of content...Aw, my favourite game just now.

Was SO hard to pick between this and Arkham City. I only just prefer this game by a tiny, tiny amount. You really do feel like you ARE Batman in these games, what more could you possibly ask for? Again, millions of tasks to complete and shedloads of unlockables...and against the common opinion, I actually kinda liked the final battle.

The first game is amazing too, don't get me wrong, but I slightly prefer this one. I prefer being a Big Daddy, I prefer the battles with the Big Sister, I prefer the ending and I prefer being able to dual-wield your guns and plasmids. I don't prefer the story, I don't prefer the characters and I don't prefer the final battle, but it's the gameplay that matters.

Heheheh...this game is brilliant, as long as you know what you're letting yourself in for. It's a game in which you control a cheerleader who goes around butchering zombies with a chainsaw, with her boyfriend's living head strapped to her, performing all kinds of crazy shit and fighting some proper mental bosses. I was fortunate enough to know what I was letting myself in for, and had a great time.

I haven't finished this yet, but I'm in love with the game. There's so, so much to do, the story is one of the most engrossing I've ever played, the combat and missions are lots of fun, you get so attached to the characters...and the part where you first arrive in Mexico made my heart stop, one of the most stunning moments of gaming history as far as I'm concerned.
UPDATE SEPT 2013: I've finished it now. The ending was...wow. A bit predictable but still made you go "Oh shit, son". An amazing game from start to finish.

I'm not mad into this game, but I do love how relaxing it is to play, almost therapeutic. That's really all I have to say, I like the game, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

I was going to be crass and just say "NURSE REBECCA!" but nah, I loved this. It was a tad pricey for what it was, but being able to play as all your favourite Resi characters whilst mowing down either the Spaniards or the Africans with all their monstrous mutations, it was a fan's dream come true. Well, I thought so anyway.

They even have this on file? Nice. Burned away many, many, many a night on this addictive little online game. I'd say it's aged totally way bad and is crap by today's standards, but back in, say, 2005, this was all it was about, period. A variety of guns, knives, swords, rocket launchers, all set around either doing seemingly impossible quests or jumping into the fray and murdering as many of your peers as possible to rise in the ranks, gain access to stronger weapons of mass death and generally become a Gunz legend. Christ, that was written like a review. But aye, this game owes me possibly hundreds of hours of my life back.

Somehow found this game on YouTube yesterday, realised I still had it and beat it 100% in 30 mins. I was one bloody stupid kid, this lasted me weeks. Cheesy beyond words (even then it was), easy as shit which is pretty easy and yet it's made this list. Go figure.

This is bloody GREAT! As my list has shown, I'm a big Devil May Cry fan and this is that series' spiritual successor. It's its mirror image: you control a female angel hunter witch, as opposed to a male demon hunter half-devil fella. I'd almost say this game beats DMC3 - it definitely beats the other 3 games of the series (haven't played the reboot yet). The gameplay is just the best hack and slash action you could possibly get, seriously, the boss fights are absolutely mind-boggling, there is a ton of stuff to unlock and master and above all, this game is long and extremely difficult (though never unfair). Oh, and Bayonetta is the hottest video game girl of the lot.

When I found out the Blazblue series was done by the same guys who made this fighting game masterpiece, that's when I was sold on BB. Its big brother here is much tougher though, and my main gripe by far is that it's all in Japanese, which makes me feel like such a faggot during play. That aside though, the combat is deep, the characters are just as interesting and varied as BB (personal favourites are Dizzy, Chipp and Jam, in that order) the story is unique and interesting, the music is possibly the best of any video game and it's a good laugh trying to spot all of the musical references to Queen, Iron Maiden, Enuff Z'nuff etc. The game doesn't take itself seriously at all either, the main character is called Sol Badguy, for God's sake.

I'm MASSIVELY late to this party, but all the same, I just finished this game (4/12/13) and had great fun with it. The best bits of Metroid and RPGs, it's long, lots to uncover, challenging, play it!
