I always really liked Ride the Lightnings solo, Metallica to anyone know doesn't know ;P.
Also Lonley Day by S.O.A.D.

But ya your list is pretty good, love all those songs except I haven't listened to Floods or Mr.Crowley. Guess I'm missing out eh?

Good list.  My favorite solo of all time would be the solo on "Let it Roll' by UFO... Michael Schenker

This list, aside from a few entries like "Mr. Crowley", really closely resembles a similar list put out by Guitar World magazine a few years back. "Stairway to Heaven" seems to really get people frothing, but I've never found that particular solo very interesting.

"Comfortably Numb" would make the list, were I to compile ten songs together. As would something like "Satch Boogie". "Free Bird" and The Outlaws' "Green Grass and High Tides" have similarly-structured solos, so where there's one, I try to avoid the other. Steve Vai's "For the Love of God", while one giant instrumental piece, has an amazing crescendo about three-fourths of the way through. As does something more modern like Buckethead's "Soothsayer". I'd probably put something by Hendrix in the top ten, and then I'd see where to go from there.

i think the final countdown has a pretty impressive guitar solo..............if you wanna hear a great guitarist, listen to Robert Johnson, he was alive back in the 1910's...Eric Clampton said it takes a life time to master Robert Johnsons style...enough said, hes great..he was also rumored to have sold his soul cause he was soo good, i think that part is B.S

Yeah, I've read that list in Guitar World Magazine. Although I didn't agree with a lot of there choices I still did agree with some of them. But yes, I love the solo in Stairway to Heaven. I was making the choice between whether or not I liked Hotel California better or not. It was a close one.

To be honest, I did, although I really like it, it's not in my top ten, If I had a larger list it would most likely be around 14ish.

Yeah, Stairway to Heaven is a good song, but it's no Freebird/Bohemian Rhapsody/Baba O'Riley.

Totally, 1984 was a great album. I love hot for teacher, I don't throw that song around much because I know how much it bugs ME when people tell me that they love a band based on one or two songs they played in Guitar Hero.

Ya that's true.My dad got me into bands like Van Halen and Zepplin  as he has alot of these albums and stuff. He still even has a bunch a vinyls in the basement somewhere.

But ya when people think they're real knowledgable about bands after playing their songs on GH is kinda annoying. But it is also cool how GH gets alot of people interested in more bands then they normally would listen too.

Although not too techically impressive, the guitar solo in Baba O'Reilly is incredibly epic, same with pretty much every single Boston song ever, but Freebird will always be number one.

Yeah, I mentioned those songs in an earlier post. Baba O'Riley sucks from a guitar-solo standpoint, but I love the keyboards. One of my favorite songs.

Pretty good, I love Stairway to Heaven, but I think I like Hotel California a little better. Also I think Crazy Train as a song is better than Mr. Crowley, but the solo in Mr. Crowley is better than the solo in Crazy Train. My favourite guitar solo though would have to be from Only in Dreams by Weezer, even if you're not a fan of the band, the song is still pretty wicked.

Yeah, It was difficult deciding what I should put in my #1 spot, Hotel California or Stairway to Heaven...It's really close between those.

An "all-time top 10" list would be impossible to make so I won't even try that. I couldn't even remember a fraction of all solos from the hundreds of different bands I've listened to but I'll participate anyway.

I'll just name the first 10 random solos that comes to my mind. These never fail to give me goosebumps.

Nevermore - Born (awesome shred part I)
Outworld - Warcry (awesome shred part II)
Saturnus - Pretend (absolutely gorgeous and heart-breaking)
Candlemass - Bewitched (incredibly catchy and memorable)
Sentenced - End Of The Road (simple and catchy, yet powerful and emotional)
Riverside - Second Life Syndrome (beautiful and captivating, great variation)
Andromeda - The Words Unspoken (excellent lengthy solo that elevates an already great track)
Hexen - State Of Insurgency (old-school thrash madness)
Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge (awesome shred part III)
Absu - Those Of The Void Will Re-Enter (unexpectedly wicked, brutal and evil solo)

Interesting list but I would have included Carlos Santana's solo from No One to Depend On

Check it out at from about 3:00 into the song, it explodes at 3:35.

Also what about the Outlaws Green Grass & High Tide? It's got a killer series of solos that rock for a good long time  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R82OM5tzcrk
Then there is Dicky Betts and Duane Allman on the Allman Brother's classic Whippin' Posthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2dpgXYvMHI
And Molly Hatchet's Flirting with Disasterhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhhtRxqSrys
The classic dueling guitars of Derek & the Domino's Keep on Growing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_wobBGG9Vw
For more modern choices I can't help but mention Jane's Addition's Three Dayshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb1Nf75M3LM
And Dinosaur Jr.'s Green Mindhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syzS14qzfMA
Oh and the latter part of Oasis Champagne Supernovahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzOQ-shPKV4
And that reminds me of Neil Young & Crazy Horse on Cowgirl in the Sandhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzOfUsA7C4o
Hmm, 1 more makes my 10...just to be different, I'll go with Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soLIZ4W0rZw

The guitarist for Necrophagist is a beast. Not a huge fan of the band, but speaking in terms of technical skill this band is damn good.

And a few of my favorite solos include David Gilmour's Comfortably Numb solo live from the Pulse DVD, Steve Vai's For the Love of God, The Human Abstract's Mea Culpa, Since I've been Loving You by Led Zeppelin, Save Your Love by Great White, Flaming Telepaths by Blue Oyster Cult, As I Am by Dream Theater, Ride the Lightning by Metallica, Randy Rhoad's playing Paranoid live off of The Essential Ozzy Osbourne, Little Dreamer by Van Halen...

Those are just a few:P.
