@gike987: As opposed to the two you listed which were also not turn based, and fairly terrible if I remember correctly. The point he makes is that sometimes a franchise needs to do something new to reinvigorate it or to adapt to a new age. Judging by recent articles coming out for E3 on this new one, that is exactly what they are doing. Squad control, base management, resource control and research. In some respects, those are core X-com values.
Loving the alien design, and gameplay looks good, plus what I've read up to this point I hope its a pretty good game. Â Won't stop the hardcore X-Com fans from crying about it tho...
The last contra game that was somewhat good I remember was the DS one where they purposely made it look retro. The others....not so much, at this day and age I wonder how you update to this new age.
I'm cautiously optimistic, Perfect World's games I found were ok, question is will Cryptic still be a division or merged completely into PW. That said, they did publish Torchlight and apparently own a sizable stake in the developer, and we've seen Runic run pretty fine.
I figured an anime would have been the path the series would go instead of a live action film, so colour me surprised. No clue on the casting, so we'll have to see. Apparently from leaked photos, it does seem to follow some key locations from the first game.
Apparently it was already in Atari's mind to shift to smaller developments and mobile games, so their decision to sell Cryptic is sorta expected, but no less unfortunate.
Hopefully a buyer for Cryptic and their games as CO recent Free to play transition was quite good, and STO has been doing quite well over the year from what I've read and what they have planned.
