Don't see a neither option. If I had to have one or the other though it would be Max Payne 3.

Yeah, as with some other handheld games (names escape me at the moment) this form of "co-op" actually works. You still get the single player experience, but with the added bonus of letting the online community take part. The only problem is that some might exploit this feature to power through the game, but that's to be expected in the game community. As with how useful this function is offline? That's to be determined at launch.

Actually just for the record this isn't how the Pawn system works. The only Pawn that can be recruited by other players is your Main Pawn which you create in your own game. Outside of the fact that you don't control them directly and they can't be a hybrid class they are basically like a second main character. You can gear them, they level with you, you pick their class and skills etc. You can even change their appearance at an in game barber and or change their class and skill set up at the inn.

The thing is your main pawn only levels with you though. If your buddy Bobby G recruits your main pawn to help him first off.... you have to be offline/not playing or he can't recruit your main pawn to begin with. Secondly your MP gains no exp when helping your buddy, their exp is locked they can only level when teamed with you. Lastly the only loot they even get is based on what items your buddy gives to them in their game and I think some randomly generated stuff based on what they did (maybe). So while a REALLY nice dude might be able to load you up with some gear this way (no idea if gear is level gated) you will never suddenly have this billy bad ass as a pawn because he did stuff while you were at work.

The real benefit is that if they helped kill a Chimera they will now know what to do when you run into a Chimera for the first time. Or if they do some weird quest that sends you all over the back of beyond when you do that quest they will be able to tell you where to go. Of course you can always ignore them anyway.

Also for the record not all pawns are actually other characters pawns. Bunches of them are just dudes wandering around in game you just hire out, so you don't have to play online to get pawns for your team. Also only your main pawn levels with you, your two secondary pawns will never level. Point being you don't keep them with you for good when you out level them you recruit someone new. So it is basically a bromance between you and the MP with two other schmucks hanging out here and there, unless of course one or both of you is female. Hmmmm hawt.

PS: Why am I bumping all this stuff today for some reason? I must be bored.

Actually I am pretty sure the Demo is supposed to let you play the first part of the game now and not just demo two characters and use the character creator. The reason I say this is because I can swear in a recent live stream (like 2 weeks ago) they said you would get to make your character and your main pawn. You actually don't get access to your main pawn until you have done like 1-3 of the opening quests.

Either way it will be cool stuff even if it isn't playable at the start. For the specifically curious though the demo comes out on the 24th as in three days from this post.

Also whats up with the RE6 nonsense? Both versions are confirmed to ship with a demo code.

Honestly there are alot of reasons it doesn't have multiplayer. First off there is basic stuff like... how do we divy loot? Do you join their game or do they join yours or is it some third game world altogether? Can you do story missions? If you can how do you handle two guys at different points in the story? What about level restrictions (hell the level max is 200)? For that matter how about new game+ restrictions? How can you force the players to stay together since it is an open world game? Where are we hosting the multiplayer to begin with? How many players should we allow to team up and should it effect the number of Pawns?

There is just a metric ton of crap to consider. Those questions don't even begin to scratch the surface of things you have to look at and I took less than 2 minutes to come up with them.

Simply put this is an open world RPG game. Could it potentially have multiplayer? Sure. Does it really "need it"? Not so sure. Would it be easy to actually implement it? Somehow I don't think so unless it was very very restrictive.

EDIT: The Fable universe has also told me over and over that highly restrictive multiplayer in a semi open world RPG is also of middling fun factor.

Actually in all seriousness paper does win. A sufficiently large piece of paper envelops the entire rock and wraps around it which makes it impossible for the rock to "break through it" a it is literally covered entirely in paper. The rock unable to escape loses.

Now I need to find a different thread to suck fun out of.... hmmm.

If you want an RPG that doesn't exactly handle like an RPG and can ween you into some more heavy titles like Skyrim or *gasp* a Xenoblade Chronicles..... Why not give Dragon's Dogma a look when it comes out on May 22?

Anyone who can honestly answer yes to this question has probably had an excessively boring life. I can't imagine how mundane everything would be if everything I planned always worked exactly the way I planned it. Variety is the spice of life they say, failure or maybe... surprises are a part of variety.

Dex is only used for gear stat requirements and weapon damage (for weapons with dex scaling), nothing else

What he said. Glad someone else got it. Dex does contribute a tiny amount to other things though. All stats give defense for example.

There are many, many different reasons for people to dislike Games For Windows Live. Some could be considered major, some are probably pretty minor, but you just don't know.

Simply put, it's consumer sovereignty- if I don't want it, I'm not going to buy it.

I have played just as many games on GFWL as I have on Steam. I had no issues other than figuring out their crappy interface. I hate all forms of DRM, so don't misunderstand by thinking I actually like GFWL. I also realize though that being on Steam does not contribute anything to making it a better game either.

They made the PC port because they thought there would be cash in it. The cash that is "in it" is based on two things. How much the port costs and how much profit they expect. The cost has to do do with the platform they use, what features they add, what they keep the same, if they change the resolution that moves into texture work, resizing the ui and making sure it looks correct at different scales, setting up different control schemes, potentially new servers for pc players, and a million and one other things. Not the least of which is actual cost of distribution because it isn't going to be only digital. Also the games announcement would never have even happened until all of this had already been settled to 100% totality.

So it comes down to this. Does the consumer know more about how to port and distribute a game than the actual company that made the game?

You don't have a clue why it is on GFWL and you assume From Software and every other involved party hasn't already considered other options and discounted them for what they feel are valid reasons. Simply put the developers can answer all those questions about cost and profit. The consumer can't. The consumer as a result can not possibly know more about how to port and distribute the game to PC because they simply put can't answer any of questions that determine the answer to the only question that matters. Is it going to be profitable if we do this? Yes or no.

after recent videos/etc about the game, I'm cautiously opitmistic after initially not caring at all.

Sorta the same for me. It was a "meh it exists" game on my radar over there in the corner.... Then about a month ago when they started putting out alot of vids/content for the game it sort of jumped to a "hey this thing is potentially good". Since then I have seen enough that it has become a day one for me. So maybe I am more than cautiously optimistic? Either way I can't wait to find out if I can suplex a pig into a cow for a double take down.
