I'm not really a fan. I guess there are people out there that like it (see what I did there) and I guess whatever helps whiskey get more traffic is a good thing. I think it would be great if I could disable it from view in my user options, choice is always a good thing.
Personally I would have taken some high res photo's of the sky over Italy and used those for the skybox. I'm just really pointing out a minor flaw here, the game is still awesome, I just usually pick up on these little details and it's the little details that help with immersion.
So I was messing around in the PC version when I hit the night cycle. Now the day time skybox looks pretty good, however the night one... bit of a different story.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that just maybe the night skybox was one of the corners they cut to get the game out the door in such a short time frame.
Just for the hell of it I created the same thing in MS paint in less than a minute.
Listen Ubi, I know you guys are under the gun to get another one of these things out the door by Q4... but maybe you could spend more than 53 seconds on this particular visual this year.
You guys should explore the PC space more, dig into some back catalog maybe.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Q3 night, throw in some crazy mods and what not (I know Brad shares my fondness for Q3). Some original Battlefield 1942 might be cool, setup a shenanigans server and see what crazy stupid stunts that people can pull off. Starcraft 1 might be a pretty good one to mess with as well. It could also be pretty fun to see a Left4Dead(2) setup where the GB crew takes up the role of the survivors while the community jumps in as the infected players.
Maybe you could take a look at games that inspired trends in modern online. Out of the blue the other day I realized that the multi-player in Crysis 2 draws some extremely close parallels with the old Jedi Knight games. Specifically the impact of player powers on current genre multi-player trends, only in this case it was Quake style death match instead of Call of Duty TDM.
For anyone out there looking to enable what some might consider standard PC option functionality, the following variables can be added to the game.cfg file located under your C:\Users\%UserName%\Saved Games\Crysis2 path.
Fairly straight forward, I've just dumped my own settings in bellow. Three is the highest setting for the sys_spec options, the remainder being binary values (off/on) with the exclusion of the obvious ones (FOV, Mouse Sensitivity and Anisotropy).
I have encountered instances where the file is wiped and reset after exiting the game, I believe this occurs when attempting to adjust your mouse sensitivity in game. Additionally the MultiGPU toggle does nothing at present to resolve the epileptic fit inducing lighting flickering in Crossfire/SLI.
