@c0l0nelp0c0rn1: What is really comes down to is that I don't understand why people like them, and I find playing them infuriating. In fact, I've only ever finished three JRPGs: Valkyria Chronicles, Golden Sun and Pokemon (they are all the same really). The things that I like about those games are all things that are completely non-standard to the genre. The vanilla Square-Enix RPG just feels like grindey, flashy, gameplay-less nonsense with obnoxious character design and horrendous exposition.
I am not, however, trying to start a fight here. I am asking this question completely innocently. Unfortunately people seem to have missed the point, so this has all been kind of a wash.
See, this shows you how much I know about JRPGs. I was under the impression that the genre had passed is prime and that no modern console could compete with the classics of yore.
Also, sweet irony of ironies, I can't see the results of my poll because I don't want to vote in it.
Pretend that the PS2 doesn't play PS1 games for the purpose of this exercise.
I was just discussing this with my brother. Hating JRPGs passionately, I don't feel qualified to make a ruling.
EDIT: To make it clear, this is an academic question about the state of JRPGs over time. Saying one console is best because it has a single game, or because it had a lot of re-releases defeats the purpose of the exercise.
That would pretty dumb of them, given that I have my initials in mine. I would probably politely ask them to change it. If they didn't, I might consider asking a mod to get involved. That's a pretty specific thing to do, it would have to be deliberate griefing.
