Every Game I've Beaten (That I Remember)

So somewhere in the darkness of the late 90s, I decided that the breadth of games that I had gone through merited a list. Perhaps for absurdity's sake, perhaps to try and convince myself to kick the "childish" habit; whatever the case, I now have proof positive that I've done some dumb things in my life, I'm a proud (and old) gamer, and I wish to share that very madness with the Giantbomb community.

List items

  • This game blindsided me. Games of attrition were never my strong suit, but I persevered the hell outta this game to completion. Side scrolling plane action with tower defense makes a tremendously great game. Spent hours on single maps. Nightmare mode: Helicopter

  • Effortlessly great. Hey is that Michael Clark Duncan?

  • They made it better?...Can I have it now?

  • I miss Clover Studios. Controls felt weird, the story was all disjointed, but that's the whole point! Poison Chihuahuas, that luchador gorilla, the midget power rangers, oh man. I actually use this game (via youtube) to show people what Japanese's like left to its own devices. F bombed all over with that final boss though.

  • Doesn't follow the movie's story at all!...

These Godzilla games never live up to my imaginings of them. Basically a quick, awkward fighter.

  • That's right, this pile of crap. Actually played to completion. I'm not proud.

  • I even got all the cheats on this, legitimately. I ran through that goddamn facility like you wouldn't believe. Don't think I ever beat Egypt on 007 though.

  • The last iteration I truly cared about. I had this map memorized and all that business. Never legitimately beat that last mission, but a friend and I tank cheated our way to the end a day before I sold it.

  • Usually calling something a board game for a video game is an insult, but it's positive here. Pretty easy, but for mixed company it's a sweet thing people can get behind provided they can pick up on the minigames.

  • Ah, the game that sailed a thousand ships. I remember thinking such a peripheral would crash and burn. But here I sit, crow in humble pie and munching away. Loved it, what can I say?

  • It had Freebird. Superior

  • The solo idea was neat, but the rehashing started to sink in here. Also goddamn Dragonforce.

  • Hey I like Aerosmith. This should be good!...oh.

  • I played this, yes. It's a game.

  • A pretty compelling story with the best western feel in a game this side of Red Dead Redemption. Kris Kristofferson in any game is a game I can get behind (oh god, did he do a voice in that Blade game that I never played? I hope not)

  • I'll assume this is a fighting game. So ykno how big mech fighting games feel? That.

  • Kick their Asses!

A secret pleasure of mine. Shooting everything, then go to crazy blue heaven while lookin awesome.

  • Second verse...

Not as good a "story", but different characters make for more STYLE~. Oh, and you still shoot stuff forever.

  • Gunstar was one of those games that I totally missed on my radar in its time. So it was real fun playing this as a throwback in a way I hadn't seen too many shooters.

  • One of the few PC games on here, but I had to play this! The Free-man holds up despite the vehicle sequences.

  • Thoroughly great first half, nothing but the gravity gun was a smart idea.

  • Man, I hate striders now. Also, I don't hate Magnusson for his personality. Just his damn useless invention.

  • I'll admit, the Flood had me pretty anxious. Everything else didn't seem /too/ different though.

  • The guns all felt super weak in this game (I'm sure a somewhat intentional choice due to the two handedness). Arbiter parts were alright I guess?...I have stealth in other games folks.

  • Yeah alright, I can see what you're going for. Still doesn't mean I care a whole bunch though.

  • The visual and gameplay style was a nice departure, but you need more than that to impress. It just felt like a Halo that they got five new staffers on.

  • Again, I see things you could've done to make this Halo but something new. Instead it's just Halo. And that's great, but...arg. I just hope Bungie progresses its ideas rather than just polishing.

  • I got through it quick, so this was an easy strategy game. Does anyone else just assume that in every strategy game you'll have funny multi-click responses a la Warcraft II?

  • Phoenix Wright but much less text and way easier. At least it looks exactly like the show. Try to find Guile and Dhalsim!

  • I'm a British gentleman. I've turned into a young explorer! I GAIN POWER THROUGH TETRIS ATTACK! JESUS CHRIST IT'S TEA TIME! THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER!

    Really, it's stupendous.

  • Overstayed its welcome with me. Got super stumped at that part where you close the DS, but otherwise I mostly kept up. Maybe I just have a thing against supertext games. Great story, decent gameplay.

  • Gorgeous game, very quickly won me over. I worried so bad that the boss would be some "Here's a laser gun, now fight!" sorta bunk, but it remained perfect to the tone. Little did I know, Team Ico was just gettin started...

  • Oh, hey Ultimate Destruction but shinier. Seemed a little weak for a sequel to that monster. Maybe cuz it was movie-tied. Also pre-Prototype.

  • This is how you do an open world hulk game. 100 foot mechs, bust any building down, car fists.

  • Such a weird take on how to make a game. Seemed to get easier as you went on. Not storywise though. That just, uh, left. I still wanna good explanation for those mutant bugs at work.

  • One of the best games on the PS2, hands down. The leveling systems, the traversal, the bonus levels. Arg, so perfect! And no one's played it!

  • Used to be great at this game. Just recently tried the disc again to find out it was defunct. Very bummed.

  • I can beat your game in four hours? Alright, whatever. I'm bored.

  • The worst part is I played the DS, PS2, AND 360 versions. Why? Cuz I hate myself, obviously. Honestly, the 360 was probably just for points. The rest has to be hate though, right? Ugh.

  • Played Gregar. You can see them getting ready for Star Force here with the gameplay. Meh otherwise.

  • Kinda wimpy Gamecube game, actually a half decent GBA game. Who would've thought?

I wonder how that Simpsons wrestling game felt in comparison to this..

  • This game felt disappointingly less vertical when compared to the movie games, but don't let that make you think this an inferior game. Quite the contrary, this is quite a gem. Takes alotta what makes the Ultimate universe unique and uses it to its advantage. Feels loose, crazy, zany, everything Spider-man should be.

  • Played 2 first, so this was hard to play, felt gimped without the spin dash. Pretty easy compared to the complexities of the later games.

  • Overstayed its welcome with me. Got super stumped at that part where you close the DS, but otherwise I mostly kept up. Maybe I just have a thing against supertext games. Great story, decent gameplay.

  • What better a way to start this list? Competent shooter, Tony Yayo, helicopters as bosses. Big ass ramps.

  • This game made me realize Joe Don Baker would make a great field officer. Felt huge, but a good kinda crazy.

  • Expected a DC Marvel Ultimate Alliance, got much worse than that. Not even Ron Perlman phoning in as Batman made it any better!

  • Great lookin for a release title. Did nothing that I haven't seen before though. Nothing wrong with a cute, by the numbers platformer every now and again.

  • Boy am I glad I didn't play the first one. Easy way to be mindlessly entertained for 5 hours and that's all.

  • The original. So sad there won't be more of these. Just make the soundtracks at least!

  • The original modern cover-based shooter, and I'm probably one of the few to've played it. It's hilarious how you can blind fire with the same accuracy though, I headshotted everyone in the last level from cover.

  • I played it on the PS2, not even for achievements! Only played it because I felt like I hadn't beaten a game in a while. Completion satisfaction.

Note: I played this GBA game Kong: King of Atlantis. Imagine that Godzilla cartoon that was on Fox but King Kong, and its the easiest but longest feeling game ever.

  • Played through it and never touched it again (sorry Jeff). I just need more to a fighting game rather than the mastering motivation.

  • Literally beat it under ten minutes. Wasn't even that hard. I mean Terry playthroughs are never really THAT hard.

  • Like everyone else, I thought this would never work, but it did, and I enjoyed it a bunch. I wonder if you can return to it.

  • Real realreal short, but great concept. You can actually give this to a person, have them beat it, then take it back, it's just that fast.

  • Another mediocre game probably seen as less-than-mediocre that probably only I played through. I love me some predator (and can make the mandible clicking sound real well), so I had to play it and sing with my flaying friend. Feels like every renderware game in the world, but hey, kill yo'self some mobsters and (spoilers!) xenomorphs. I kinda liked it. Then again, I hated the Predator vs Aliens games at the time, like that arcadey SNES one? woof.

  • Groovy puzzle game. Again, one of the first DS games I played, so many moons ago. I remember good things.

  • Actually spent the time to beat this, sadly. Not that kind of patience on 2 though. I mean at least it gives you more than even the modern handheld games give ya.

  • I really want this game to hold up, like a lot. But it just doesn't! And this was so inspiring playing it in Blockbuster. Pity.

  • So here's what happened. During college I figured I'd play this even though I was outta this franchise (due to age, of course). But to make it interesting, I'd just play it with ONLY my starting pokemon and stop once I get systemically stuck. So I pick up a Torchic, named it Burny and went. I never once leveled up a pokemon aside from Burny and Kyogre once I got him (since I was /that/ far into it), and actually beat the game without a gigantic amount of trouble. I think I just got lucky picking a Fire/Fighting/Flying/Ground pokemon that just beats everything in the way. So bragging rights at least?

  • Again? And there's a third one on the way?! I'll do it but I'm not telling anyone that I'm enjoying it so thoroughly!...

  • Why did you suck me in with your circle drawing? Curse you Pokemon!

  • Dungeon crawler, but it's made toward kids, so it's playable by people who aren't so great at such games. It was good, but a healthy break is needed for me before I hit the sequel or a similar game.

  • A game you can play while watching TV. Oh, and don't forget the shame.

  • Shame. Move along.

  • Bruce Campbell! I didn't even realize that while playing it, and I love me some Evil Dead. Oh the shame.

Cute, enjoyed the take (although I bet most didn't like it), and felt like a nice competent platformer.

  • Kinda weak continuation of the best alligator jumper.

  • OH GOD SO ADDICTIVE. Once you make the Statue of Liberty, there's never anything else to do. This is true in life as well as this game.

  • Now this one tied up pretty nice. I have questions about tri-clops, but whatever. Still fantastic.

  • Keep it goin Capcom, love it. Ending was kinda off, but at least they didn't keep doing that.

  • Started an addiction. Much like Chibi Robo and Trauma Center, it's hard to try and explain to other people that a lawyer game is really awesome, but it is. So just don't care what you think. Play, enjoy.

  • Played this years after it came out, so it didn't hit me as hard as most. Felt like a half decent Goldeneye clone for me. Hate as you will.

  • Now here is a beast. I didn't think I was gonna like the RPG/action mix that stopped me from getting too far in Vagrant Story (5 times I've started that game now). But this worked out pretty well. That 5 form boss on the ship was one of the most stressful final bosses I've gone through.

Tried 2 but I think that's too different to work out.

  • Felt kinda forced? I mean it wasn't Um Jammer, but the same magic wasn't here. Still good to have it.

  • This is what sold me on rhythm games, on the PSX controller, and on Sony being a viable console in general. My freestyling on these levels is sincerely known well by friends of mine. check turn signal to the check turn left uh.

  • You're right internet, it really was a step up on the old one in so many ways. If you think about it, you see how game-y so so many things are, but don't do that. Just enjoy the wonder that it is.

  • Personality makes this whole series, and here's where it starts with a bang. This is where I felt like Mario started to really have different continuing series, and it feels good. Gets more Mario games pumped out but covers different itches.

  • I actually thought this was pretty cute. I'm sure they thought way more games would turn out like this on the DS. At least level 5 kinda picked up the pieces.

  • Yep, that was one of the first DS games. S'workin.

  • Play this game immediately. Don't care if you hate Japan, don't care if you think games are hard, you know it's just that good.

  • This game kept me going. But oh man is this a throwback (and pastiche) of everything you loved in the id Tech 1/Build Engine years. It's...good? I can't decide. Probably.

  • A good little shooter. Nothing fancy here.

  • Female Shinobi. Plays exactly the same. Probably a bit easier? It's been so long. I remember liking this quite a bit.

  • So I got my action-adventure from Konquest. And it felt better than the last two games'. The half-brother garbage was a bit cliche of course. But that boss sure did gimmie a run for my rushed-through money.

  • I will say this was more fun with a buddy, but it held my interest pretty well. Those into the mythology are still pounding their heads over the ending, I try to think about it as little as possible.

  • Brutal feelin game. Voices were /all/ wrong here, but the fighting felt like a good upgrade and mix between 2D and 3D fighting games. Shaoside was a punk though.

  • I actually thought this game was gonna be some bad adventure game with some action in it. Turned out to be pretty great. I bet if they didn't have all that sweet, appropriate Primus music, it wouldn't have won me over, but good gorbachev that music kept me interested.

  • I thought this was Maniac Mansion. I didn't read it correctly. Beat it anyways, let's never speak of it again.

  • Da-Da-Dash! Oh Impact, I miss you.

Really difficult to play now given how bad it controls and otherwise feels. But I remember eating this game up. Got the batteries for that dude, upgraded all the weapons. Good times. I just realized I never played the sequel!!

  • This was such a quick game, I basically played it between other games and/or during commercials.

  • Now here's one game I'll defend to the death since I was the only one who played it. It's not perfect, or even spectacular, but it was way surprising how enjoyable it was. It's Devil May Cry but with some Japanese sci-fi twists. You're Jake and the bad guy's name is Keith? Konami feelin in that serious-but-not tone. Forget the oil concept, it's good!

  • I dunno how I actually beat this but I did. It was good, but I figure this one was easier than its sequel, cuz I can't even get halfway through that sucka.

  • Quick, dumb, zero investment in the "story", moving on.

  • Watching Pyramid Head do sporting events should be a pasttime. Well enough sports minigame with GREAT Konami cameos. Great.

  • This is what convinced me to buy a DS. The perfect new Mario game. Simple if you want, challenging as all hell if you want every big coin. And lemme tell ya, that coin where you get it in the mini-mario maze and then you have to race to the end with the meteors?...don't talk to me about that.

  • Again, a ravishing game. So simple yet so enjoyable. So long as you can convince a S.O. or family member to run and jump, they'll probably enjoy this to some degree too. When in doubt, pick them up and tell them not to fuck this up for us.

  • Controls RE style? For-get it! Wait, this feels way better than RE, as though it was made with the control style in mind! Probably unplayable now, but was pretty spiffy back in the day.

But ohmygod that hanging upside down guy. Everything he says...*shudder*

  • Ykno what a crazy demon samurai game needs? Dating sim elements, yeahhhhh.

I looked at all 17 pages. I'm that bored because I'm at work.

You have a seriously high threshold for shitty games.

I haven't even gotten past the first page and I see that you have beaten some seriously SHIT games.

EDIT:  I also see that you have beaten some "Not-so-shit" games and I also think that this list, overall is pretty sweet.

This list is great first because of the sheer number of games and second because you take time to give a little comment to every game which is nice and not many people around here do it. Aiming to topple this with my still modest list.

Very impressive.
