Thanks all! I'd buy you all a beer if I could. Or Oreos dipped in cheese. Or hot dogs cooked in questionably clean machines. Or Doritos, the official chip of this blog post.

Well shit, if I knew you were buyin' I would have said something nice earlier.

Here's to a better 2019 for all of us, ole' internet buddy.

Never felt HotS understood what makes MOBAs fun to play. It certainly addressed some of DOTA and LoL's problems (like game length), but it also never got the core appeal of those games either.

I'd much rather play a great game with some major flaws, than a flawless game that's at best mediocre.

nah. if anything just make the cutoff for the year december 1 and let anything after be eligible in 2019.

the holiday break is too good a spot for long-form content to give that up. plus it gives them the opportunity to stockpile content and the staff can focus on time with their friends & family.

Completely agree. I've said this for years. There's zero reason not to do it the way you suggest.

Absolutely No additional work required on the part of the staff, viewers still get their holiday content, staff still gets a nice holiday break to be with their families and solves the problem of December releases completely. December games would probably be disadvantaged just due to distance from the voting , but at least they got a shot.

@lentfilms: Maybe you should ask a Mod to move this to bug reporting?

Not sure where it would get the most visibility, but this is a pretty potentially huge problem for the wiki until it's fixed.

Well it depends on how "finished" this is. I'm alright with the new UI, think some of the reorganization ideas are good & modern and always been a Dark Site user.

However seems like there's a lot of missing features, broken features/functionality or menus that have the wrong content. Not just minor things either. Not entirely surprising for a new site rollout, but given how long it took to fix basic functionality after Sea Serpent and how quickly this was pushed out clearly before it was ready, I have to admit I'm concerned about when those in some cases fairly major issues get resolved. Since the CBSi buyout, some things have remained broken for distressingly long amounts of time with little visible attention.

My plea to the engineering team is to just keep communicating this time with the site's userbase on a consistent basis about the new site's roadmap. The Giant Devcast is a great step forward, now the next step is continue to do that. Doesn't have to be super long episodes or all that frequent (maybe quarterly or bimonthly), just something that happens with reliable regularity so people can see visible proof that their concerns are being worked upon. Obviously not everybody is going to get what they want, when they want, But as long as there is an open 2 way channel of dialogue I think this could ultimately be a great step forward to rebuilding trust and excitement for the site's users.

A great first step would be addressing the concerns of the White Site users, even if you just need to just a quick blog or something, just give those folks some sign that you're are working on a way to address to their concerns ASAP. Doesn't affect me at all directly, but that's a very legitimate severe usability for a lot of people. I think needs to be addressed pronto before you lose users. I know if the dark site was removed in favor of the white site, I probably wouldn't stick around here long either

It was so brief and odd, that it was kind of hard to dislike it. If I paid 50-60 bucks for it instead of the 10 I got it for, I think I would have been upset.

I remember just being glad a brawler existed at all. They weren't exactly common in that era.

@cptmorganca: no worries man. I'm not on very often myself of late.

that's certainly possible. I guess I just view their top 10 as very heavily weighted towards gameplay, meaning that the overlap and crucially ordering similarities there could be potentially far greater than Styyyyyyle etc.

I don't think I'm selling them short as much as just being realistic about the amount of games they can play as a staff, especially since many of them now have family commitments etc outside of work. You are certainly right that AAA games dominate Best Game category, but do you think they play enough smaller purely mechanical games to populate a hypothetical gameplay centric list that would look markedly different from Best Game? There seems to already be issues of making sure enough people have played enough of the candidates for these categories already.

fwiw I hope they take your idea because It never hurts to try something new.
