I think any sort of prequel would have to be a very different game, simply because the broader strokes of the fiction have been established. The big decisions you made were part of what gave ME1-3 their biggest impact, decisions that determined the fate of entire species. On the other hand, the major choices three different endings of ME3 were so disparate that it's hard to imagine a game that could pay proper respect to every possible outcome.
Fuck it, give me a tactical squad-based shooter that lets me play as David Anderson during his run-up to Spectre.
Actually ad hominem attacks are equally prevalent on both sides of the issue. It seems like every 10th post in any ME3 thread uses the term "biodrones" or something similar.
A lot of the people writing in support of the ending, including myself *coff* and Ben Kuchera in the article linked by you, are looking at the most prevalent complaints and speaking to them directly. They are taking the plot holes and sealing them with logically reasoned arguments drawing directly from the fiction. They are showing how thematic consistency has been properly maintained once a moment of actual consideration is spared.
A majority of what has been written for and against the endings has been ludicrous. Many articles that have been critical of ME3 as a whole and the ending in particular have been equally reliant on strawmen and kneejerk reactions. Both sides have presented solid, logical points. Taking one side's best arguments and putting them against the other side's worst arguments is a cheap ploy to fool the uninformed.
You think the ending is rubbish and that's certainly your right. But focusing on countering the arguments of idiots is not going to make me respect your opinion.
I like how you take something that has absolutely nothing to do with the writing and the story and try to act like it actually supports your argument in any way.
How am I not supporting my argument?
I prefer to look at the product as a whole. But do you think the writing and the story were completely untainted by concerns for a) commercial interests and b) fanservice?
I think trying to use the presence of optional microtransactions in a multi-player mode as evidence that the story in a single-player mode lacks artistic integrity is incredibly stupid. You might as well be arguing that a band lacks artistic integrity because they're performing in a venue that charges $3 for a soda.
The packs are a part of the whole product and it's offered within the fictional universe. But whatever - let's look at the writing and the story specifically - are they untainted by concern for commercial interests and fanservice? Of course not. It's plenty tainted right out of the gate. Question is, do you think it sucks? I don't really mind that much. I thought it was a bit of a bummer that it happened to my favourite sci-fi game series but business realities are what they are.
Unless you have infinite money, any work of art is tainted by commercial interests. The story of Mass Effect 3 was no more corrupted than any other piece of entertainment media up until the point that Bioware caved.

Simultaneously grossed out by the gaming community as a whole and excited for any new Mass Effect content to devour. Worst part is now all the asshats are going to think they "won" and try it again with a different game.
Man I really don't know about this game. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the new boost mechanic and lack of flight. Also I don't like the lack of radar and how stripped down the HUD feels.
