For me, the only game that I bought with high expectations and didn't enjoy one bit was Reus.
It was sold to me as 2D populous, instead it was more like a GUI for a spreadsheet. People complain about Godus, but at least that keeps the concept of God Games being free form and creative. Reus, everything was hard numbers. The planets little more than a series of states that had to be tiled out, checked against each other and arranged in the most efficient way possible. Greatly disappointing. More like a puzzle with deities.
I'm just glad I didn't buy any true clangers this year.
And, for what it's worth, I quite enjoyed SimCity. It's not the ultimate city sim, but I rather enjoy the natural flow of how it works. If anything, it felt more like a God Game set in modern day, which is right up my alley, though I can see how it'd piss off the detail orientated crowd who loved 4 so much.
If they make another, I'd love to see them refine and expand on the concepts in this one... but with less Always Online/Facebook-esque nonsense.
