I normally wake up 30 minutes after I need to leave in order to get to work on time. I have been this way since the 7th grade. The idea of having time to dick around or work out before work is a wonderful fantasy.

I really enjoy Patrick's articles and I think his journalism skills have added a great deal of value to Giantbomb as a site. That being said, I don't miss him on the Bombcast or in Quick Looks. In a perfect world, the Bombcast and all Quick Looks would consist of some combination of VRJDD.

I bought this immediately after watching the quick look. I really enjoy it, but I'm experiencing some frequent and random crashing that is preventing me from making much progress. Anyone else have this problem?

@Patman99: There are plenty of mods that make the graphics more.... decipherable. My first time in the game I followed this tutorial: http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/

It was really helpful and it points you to a more visually palatable version of the game. I'm not sure if it's outdated at this point, or if you even want to try diving back in (I gave up after my most successful fortress was ruined when one dwarf went insane and murdered all the other dwarfs), but here you go!

Dave's been talking quite a bit about Dwarf Fortress on Twitter, and implied we'd be getting video of it this week. I've taken a few stabs at learning this game, and while I could never fully pierce its complexity, I find it fascinating. Is anyone else as excited as I am to join Vinny in watching Dave probably kill all of his dwarves in a horrible accident?

Typing as my air conditioner currently spares me from this humid 81 degree Philadelphia night, I can only say that living without AC seems insane.

I think the backlash to what Phil Fish said was WAY overblown. It's pretty common knowledge that the current Japanese games industry is struggling, and I agree that Japanese game design has been getting stale. He might have said it a little frankly, but I think he was right. As others have pointed out, Fez is in many ways a love letter to classic Japanese games. It's very easy to see why someone who was in love with the classics would be disappointed in what that industry is currently putting out.

Saying "French movies suck" or "American cars suck" is not racism, so why is saying "Japanese games suck"? Being disappointed in an industry is not the same has hating a culture. Condemning him as a racist for this remark really takes away from the injustice that is Actual Racism. It's just as dumb as telling someone they can't have an opinion about games until they release a game.

I loved SRTT, but I tend do agree that it was a phenomenon that can't be reproduced. I lot of my love for it came out of surprise at how not stupid it actually was... or at least, how cleverly stupid it was. It mostly worked because of how stupidly stupid the previous Saints Row games were. Saints Row The Third felt like a reaction to the previous games, and I don't think a fourth - even with equally strong writing and creative mission design - would be able to keep the magic going.

That being said, aren't MOST video games embarrassing to play in front of the wrong people? In the past year, I had the joy of trying to explain Bastion to my roommate and her boyfriend, neither of which had played a video game since Mario. I also had to try to explain to my grandparents why my renaissance-era assassin was suddenly some dude on a magic mind island while I waited for a super long cutscene to finish in AC:Revelations.

I was also hoping for Minecraft. Competitive action TNTs tend to just be a lot of Brad/Ryan/Jeff dying over and over again. Minecraft has much more potential for humor.
