How can he be painting Disney Land if this all happens before any of the Mickey Mouse cartoons?
Weird.

Really like the intro and the art style, but the gameplay seems a bit flat.

No interest in ever actually playing this, but I'm glad someone finally made a game for kids that doesn't treat them like they're retarded. This would make a good gift for anyone under 10 I'd bet.

This game breathes oodles of atmosphere! And I'm a sucker for atmosphere! A game that's just easy to play. I like that. Life itself is challenging enough already.

Edit: And it looks unWii-ishly good!

Extremely guided to the point where you don't have to think on your own at all and at the same time there's so much important text that it might be a problem for those young players it seems to be aiming for. Why didn't they at least voice Gus? It's not like they didn't have space on the DVD.

I think it was more they realized, really what the appeal of this game is.

It's the style and the atmosphere, and just the general Disney vibe it gives off. Not really a whole lot to say.

I'm definitely loving what they're doing. Hopefully the gameplay picks up after awhile, but either way the opening cutscene alone sold me on the game

Low energy Quick Look just in time for Thanksgiving. Surprised to see content today, but not bad.

That game has some style, but the game stopping for a cut scene every other room is kinda rough. Really breaks up the flow of everything. Hopefully later on, it doesn't hold your hand so much.

I think the constant hand-holding and breaking of gameplay by cutscenes would drive me crazy. Plus the game seems pretty arbitrary about what can be painted and what not. I'll pass.

IT DONT HAVE GUN! GMAE SUCKY CUZ NO GUNS! NINTENDO FOR LITTLE KIDS!

Which brings me to my point. With the holiday season upon us, I can imagine a lot of younger kids who actually appreciate the Wii will have a blast playing this as this is most definitely geared towards a younger audience.

Oh yeah and it will sell like hotcakes too.

Also, is it just me or does Ryan have absolutely no sense of direction when he's playing the game?

This QL hasn't changed any of my opinions about this game. There are multiple more atmospheric games on the market this year, and the gameplay makes an argument for the second weakest major platformer on the Wii this year (this still tops Sonic 4). But in a year with Super Mario Galaxy 2 (WAY better gameplay), Super Meat Boy (again, WAY better gameplay), Kirby's Epic Yarn (WAY more realized atmosphere,) Donkey Kong Country Returns (atmospheric moments are beautiful, and of course, way better gameplay,) AND Sonic Colors (better gameplay and writing,) I don't see the market that hasn't gotten a better platformer for the Wii this year.

As for people saying "I would buy a Wii for this," I hope you've already played Fallout: New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, LIMBO, and Heavy Rain when you say you want another atmospheric game. Oh, and Amnesia for PC, too.

I don't mean to say that people can't like this game; it's not bad by any standard, but it's coming out alongside a year of games that are excellent for the same reason, many of them in the same genre. This reaction that Epic Mickey is bringing something brand-new to the table is just odd. Maybe it's fan loyalty (Warren Spector, obviously, has done great things) but as I've learned with Brütal Legend, name recognition is only going to carry me so far. The number of people on this QL who think the game looks meh seems to support my thoughts; it seemed like I was crazy for not caring about this game, but it's looking like the "paint and thinner only affect an arbitrary half of the environment" is pulling other people out of the atmosphere too.

This game sort of brings to mind all of those mediocre not-quite-bad platformers of the PS2 era like Vexx. Basically, the game design feels old.

I like some of its ideas, but I'm not interested in playing this kind of platformer anymore.

Reminds me more of the 3D platformers of the PSX/N64 era. For some reason it gives off a 40 WInks vibe.

The painting mechanic looks very one-note. Also not loving the constant fetch quests either. Having a morality system in a kid's game is potentially interesting though.

I've heard pretty mixed things, and this QL more or less confirms them.

this game looks really sharp, i guess thats the art direction the took that seperates this from most of the flat, boring 3d platformers on the wii, looking forward to seeing reviews. im interested in hw the late game plays out difficulty wise

Sonic Colors has better writing than Epic Mickey? Are you serious? With Sonic and his overexaggerated anime-style shrugs?

This game is about the Disney company's hubris. How does Mickey destroy the world? By creating a massive image of himself that he tries to make more and more massive. This turns into the Phantom Blot. Disney's hubris. When Mickey is forced to enter the world he's created, some of the Phantom Blot enters into him. That is why he's dripping upward like that. So, the realization of his own hubris is something that Mickey can't really ignore anymore. But as he says "I'm still me." Throughout this game, Mickey is in a state of cognitive dissonance, attempting to come to terms with the "blot" inside him, his own hubris.

That is a pretty goddamn subversive message for a game put out by Disney that is specifically about Disney.

As for the game itself, kind of reminds me of American McGee's Alice, but I wish they had been able to take it further.  Still, this "Tragic Kingdom" vibe doesn't completely disappoint. And like I said, this game's underlying them is amazing. I think this quicklook got me interested in this game again.

I'd really wish each cartoon he jumps into changes the art style according to the cartoon. That would have been an incredible feature they seemed to leave out. Still look great.

I don't understand why people like this game. It looks like a terribly bland platformer with two magical hoses. Essentially Super Mario Sunshine except with more plain platforming.

Looks fun. I'm kind of sad they didn't went full on hardcore like in the artwork, but it still is full of nightmare fuel.

I thought it looked pretty cool initially; the paint / thinner mechanic seems to have oodles of potential, but the constant interrupting gameplay in order to tell you what to do would drive me crazy. I know, this is just the intro section, and the target audience probably isn't an experienced gamer like me, but still.
