Turn-based Mech combat can't be a particularly large genre of gaming, which is probably why it's a third person shooter. Roll on the Monday Quick Looks!

Bad game. The whole time I played it I kept wishing it was turn based. Would love to see this game return to what it's supposed to be with these graphics.

I don't often judge games on graphics but man, this looks like ass. Quite apart from the shoddy looking gameplay.

Doesn't look good, nice facial animations though.

Still don't understand the thought process behind the making of this game.  The market for robot customization and action games was kind of already filled by Armored Core.  Front Mission was where you went for a good old fashioned strategy overload.

Oh this game. It wants to be Front Mission so bad but just can't. Yeah they got the Wanzer part and weapon names right, but the gameplay itself is weak. Especially when you have a sub 20 framerate. This just made me want to go play a translated Front Mission 5 instead.
 
Why were the last two Front Mission games real time action games? We want actual FM, SE.
 
edit: and dammit Brad, the PS1/PS2 ones were waaay better than the low bit 2d games. And the countries in FM are combined super nations. Mainly USC (North and South America), OCU (Oceana + Japan), EC (Europe) and DHZ (China). So kinda yes is the answer to your question.
 
This also made me think about Shogo. Especially when stepping on tiny dudes firing rockets at you from the ground and buildings.

wow, this only looks marginally better than MechWarrior 4 graphics wise - and that game is almost 10 years old by now.

Edit: Why is there an orbital elevator in New York? No engineer in their right mind would build an orbital elevator that far from the equator. 

Weirdly, I think this game so far is not bad. Don't get me wrong, its as far a Front Mission game as you can get. The best we can get more Front Mission is the fan translated version of FM5 that never came out of Japan. But I thought this game was alright.

Wanzer is such a stupid name for a Mech.

I love where a particular enemy repeats three or four lines of dialogue repeatedly! Do we have a concept page for that yet? Cause it's god damn annoying. One of the quickest ways to ruin a game for me.

Hey, Jeff, I don't know if anyone said, but... Your wanzer is outdated...

Funny how From Software now has 3 mech based franchises. HOWEVER, I beat this a while ago, and the style of narrative is still very much Front Mission. Not of the same quality as past games mind you. But its nice to actually have 3d cutscenes and characters with voices and full personas. 
 
Also ive always preferred the somewhat more down to earth combat of ground based mechs such as front mission. Where as Armored Core is way blown into the crazy zone. So if Armored Core + better narrative + more "realistic" combat is what you want. Then I'd give this a go.

I wonder if they say "panzer" the same way they were saying wanzer :/

I've always thought it, now I'm just gonna say it: "Wanzer" is the silliest-sounding name for mechs in any fiction I've heard of. When I drive a giant robot around, I want to feel like a colossal badass, not like a dumb joke.

Played the PC version. Not the best game but amusing cutscenes :)

Is the robot lady voice the same voice actor for ADA from ZOE?

I love the word "wanzer."

Overall this game is in every sense of the word; bad.  God I wish square would have just translated Front Mission 5 and then released it in a two-pack with fm4 for ps3.  I would buy that shit at any price so fast.
 
But no instead we get one of the worst 3rd person mech games ever made that gives a great big finger to the franchise in every way it possibly could have aside from the mech designs.

I'd rather go play Mechwarrior 2 or Earthsiege.
