This Is the Run: Contra - Part 02

I want to edit "The Spread Man" into Dan's wiki page.

That scrolling is really rough, but it seems like it's only in effect while you're playing 2 player. I wonder how much easier the game could be without it.

This is one of the few Contras that I've played, and that was way back when I was a kid. Of course, back then I knew it as Probotector.

I'm not sure. Are you talking about the "ping" whenever they hit something that takes more than one hit?

Having not watched this yet, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this is not the run.

Are you talking about the noise when they shoot the spirally fireball weapon? If so, that's just how it's supposed to sound.

Yeah I don't remember the scroll being that aggressive when I played this as a kid. it did get more generous as soon as they got down to one player though. what a strange design choice.

Dan and Vinny are my new favourite thing.

I love how they shout tactics to each other as if they're playing Gears of War Horde Mode

Dan struggles more in the behind the character stages than anyone I've ever seen. Not that hard to stay crouched. Gonna have to work on that so he's not bleeding out so many precious lives during them.

@caterin6: it's to allow more space for both players on screen. If it scrolled like single player there would only be half a screen of space for the other guy and he'd fall off screen a bunch.

Oh, that tank mid boss brings back memories of playing Midnight Resistance on C64. Kinda the same game.

This is great. I recommend Gunstar Heroes, for this feature, and just in general. (It has infinite continues though so maybe you'd have to do it in one to make it interesting)

When I was little my brother and I used to play Contra all the time. My mom used the 30 man code as incentive to do chores until we got good enough to just run the game together. We go to the point where we could play through it with out losing a life. I am reliving so many childhood memories watching this. This is my new favorite series.

No Dan I think in this scenario Vinny would be the trebuchet kicking the shit out of the castle walls, and you would probably be the frontline sword/spear men fighting other sword/spear men so that they don't just run over and set the trebuchet on fire.

that is the konami signature 'yep you are doing damage' sound used in many of their nes games.

It is literally impossible to beat original Battletoads 2-player. In one of the later levels, Clinger Winger, the controls just do not work at all for the second player.
