This game was great. Why no direct sequels? Why did they have to add water guns and .....well....Space?
I suppose Mario 128 was cancelled too?
Super Mario 64
Game » consists of 15 releases. Released Jun 23, 1996
Super Mario 64 takes the Mario franchise into polygonal worlds, setting numerous standards for 3D game design along the way.
What has happened to Mario?
Super Mario Galaxy was a great game too. Super Mario Sunshine could have been better if they had more worlds instead of blue coin fetching. I think Mario has stayed true to his fun roots.

Super Mario Galaxy was better than Super Mario 64 in my opinion I was letdown a bit by Marioi Sunshine but it was an alright game.
Galaxy, if I'm being honest, is far better than SM64. I think they should make a direct sequel to that. (And, from what I hear, they are. Or at least planning to.)
From the Nintendo press conference you'd think that the next Mario game will have him in a cage so that casual gamers can poke him with their Wii-motes. Just that - poking. No dynamic, no challenge, no levels, just poking.
"DarkLegend said:There were a few statements awhile back in which Miyamoto expressed interest in expanding upon the concepts present in Galaxy, but whether such interest leads to some form of creation remains to be seen."Galaxy 2 is coming out soon."I thought according to everyone Nintendo doesn't make that sort of game anymore? ;)

As much as I enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy, it just didn't have the same feel as Super Mario 64. I hope that's not nostalgia goggles talking because I can still play Mario 64 to this day and still enjoy it as much as I ever did when a lot of games from that area totally fail, but Galaxy just wasn't as good.
I have owned and beat all of the Mario games. I like them all. I guess this one just revolutionized the series, that's why it stands out to me. Sunshine expanded it, but had to give mario some kind of gimmick to keep it interesting, and it wasn't in the mushroom kingdom either, if you want to get totally old school. Galaxy took it way out there with all kinds of new ways to play and it is great as well. I just got tired of them waaay faster than I did 64. Just me, I guess. Didn't mean to offend you Mario fans, here's hoping the next one is even better than Galaxy!

I agree. I don't like outer space as the main setting for a Mario game. Also, trying to get all the Blue Coins in Sunshine drove me crazy. I still don't have them all. Some of them are invisible and only apper if you stand or jump in a certain spot.
" Wasn't Mario 128 a tech demo for the Gamecube at some E3? It was just a platform with, like, 100 Marios jumping around on each other. "Mario 128 is like a birthing ground for Nintendo games during the Gamecube era. Pikmin, Odama, and Super Mario Galaxy spawned from that 'game'.
Oh, sorry for bringing this topic back up. I should've contributed to the "Cool Kids Turn Their Avatars Upside-Down" thread instead.
