The Legend of Zelda
Nintendo's flagship fantasy action-adventure series created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka in 1985, the Zelda series is the source of many revolutionary gameplay conventions, and continues to be one of the most popular and critically acclaimed video game franchises of all time.
The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
This sounds weird, but since we don't know anything except you'll be driving a train, I don't really know what to say. Is it a regular Zelda game with train-driving sequences(perhaps like the sailing in Phantom Hourglass and Wind Waker)? Is it strictly a train-driving game? I need more info before I pass judgment on this.
"JJOR64 said:"I'm excited. If your not then your not a Zelda fan and GTFO of here."I'm a Zelda fan, but I'm not excited by this at all. I really didn't like Phantom Hourglass and I can't see how this will be any better, personally."
Yeah, PH was the biggest disappointment I've had with the series. And this really does look like a copy and paste. Train for Boat.
If this is the only Legend of Zelda game to be announced this year, ima want heads to start rolling! Because, in all seriousness, we need a new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii.

More like a Real Zelda game, because this may say zelda but it simply isn't.

Meh, who knows? I haven't played it, and I'm pretty sure you haven't played it. It could turn out to be a lot cooler than you think. But I'm not a handheld kinda duder, so I'll be skipping out on this one. By "new," I meant that I would like to see a new Legend of Zelda "universe." I don't want to see this in the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask/Twilight Princess "universe" again. I could settle for another game in the Wind Waker "universe," but something new would be even greater. That rumor of a steam-punk Legend of Zelda game sounds verrrrrry appealing right now.
"Check the link from Brad's article on the DSi. It shows Link fighting things in his tunic. The train is just like the boat in PH. If I read correctly in a live blog you can make the tracks like you did with your path on the boat in PH. "So it's basically Phantom Hourglass all over again?
I hope it doesn't have a horrible Time Temple you have to visit a hundred times. It ruined PH for me.
Well, to everyone saying the train will work just like the boat: Boats are cooler.
"Well, to everyone saying the train will work just like the boat: Boats are cooler.Oh, and link actually needed a boat, he can't run on water. It looks to me like the overworld is being eliminated in favor of locomotion. No thank you. Steam punk Zelda? It looks like the same time setting as PH, just with a train. Steam Punk Zelda might be cool, but just adding a train isn't so much.I'm open to this, I just want to see how it will work. If they ruin what makes Zelda Zelda, it may not be any good. If this is how they're reinventing the series, they're doing it wrong. I do think I'll get the game in hopes that it takes the PH gameplay and makes it more challenging with bigger, longer dungeons, but if it doesn't then I won't care. Well, we'll have to wait and see."
I don't think this is the steam punk they were talking about.

I'm just a pessimist, aren't I?

I'm just a pessimist, aren't I?Whatever. ALL ABOARD, LINK!"
But seriously, what kind of name is "Spirit Tracks?" That sounds like what happens to your arms when you shoot up too much Poe...
Less than tepid response. Not surprising from these forums. This game will be fantastic, just like Phantom Hourglass. I guess I'm one of the few that actually got and enjoyed the Ocean Temple. Yes, the train is a boat replacement. That doesn't mean "overworld" gameplay will be less than it was in Phantom Hourglass (if anything, there will be more). Think of it more as a change in theme and setting, rather than the return of a gameplay mechanic.

We all have our opinions of the previous DS title, one I found too short and too easy. I do hope this game will give me a full Zelda experience, though I'm still worried. Honestly, I think the overworld gameplay will probably be about the same as it was in PH. To be quite honest, though, the train just... sucks compared to a boat. It just doesn't fit in the current Zelda universe unless they change things around, and it doesn't look like they have.Normally I would give a shit what you all think of this game, but then I remember the warm reception the Giant Bomb community gave to the announcement of GTA: Chinatown Wars. Half the comments are given out of some fanboy lust, and the other half are just ignorant (a small minority have an educated opinion)."

And yes, people bashed GTA: CTW because the early screens looked horrible. But you also have to take into consideration that no one knew the back story, game play mechanics, or the touch screen functions at the time. Give me a break.
There's been all sorts of machinery in various temples in Zelda games, a simple steam powered train is not beyond that scope. Also, I don't think there's a question of "canon" here considering any Zelda game can take place @ diff time lines of that world, no matter how similar they always end up being. But even if it's in the same time line as previously, well, it's just a damn train. It has a cannon on it. It looks cute just like everything else in the game. And it probably offers at least some interesting new-ish things to do with it, otherwise they would have used a boat or a horse again. The game looks fun. Jeez @ the train hate. If people's concerns are about difficulty or other things they found lacking in Phantom Hourglass, well, any trailer of a new DS Zelda game would NOT be able to put your doubts to rest now, would it? It would always still be a DS Zelda using the Phantom Hourglass engine. It has nothing to do with the train then. Give the train a break! Also, Phantom Hour glass seems to have been a great game, gathering great reviews and fan reaction. So it's not for everyone, too bad. A sequel to it would obviously always take after it, I don't think non-fans could have expected something different altogether. If you don't care for it, don't care for it.
"Knives said:I don't get the train hate. I don't find them any less appealing or out of place than boats (the boat in PH was mechanical). You don't need to hate on us. Just as was the case with GTA:CW, it could be debated whether or not what we knew about the game was good news or bad. For this one, I'm taking a wait and see approach."

OOT>TP>WW>PH.
This looks like it isn't a sequel to WW/PH however due to the fact Princess Zelda features so it looks like this will be a new game in the other timeline or at some other point in the above one.
