The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.

Shimizu Takashi, director of the movies in the title, is working on a horror adventure currently titled "Feel" for the Wii. Famitsu scanage from here.

It looks very silent hill 3ish in presenation (mannequins, colour scheme etc) so if they can recreate half the atmosphere from that game then im all for it :)

This could turn out pretty good if done right, the graphics look nice and seems to have some first person elements, I'd like to see how this plays out.

Yes, and on the other pic there's a giant key struggling to fit in a drawer. Doh Endogene...

What's people disliking the graphics (pats Omega for having a PS3 but not being a HD-only whore)? I think it looks pretty good so far, nice environments and shadows and stuff, everything looking very gritty. The creepy girl looks bad but probably creepy enough in motion. They have time to fix it up anyway, and they should be capable, that mannequin actually looks nicely modeled.

Yeah, and there's a giant key in the picture next to it.

The game looks neat, but the huge representation of pick-ups seems way out of place.

I see what you mean. It's hard to tell in the pictures if the item is supposed to be resting on an object or just floating in the centre of the screen, to be examined like you said.

I've seen the English version and I thought it was pretty bad. Can't believe that some people think that its the scariest movie ever made.

Anyways, I don't think I'm very interested in this game.

"Gritty" - and maybe that is the problem with the graphics, it could just turn out to be a sloppy, dark, glitchy mess, that looks like a PS2 game, which judging by the screen shots it will. For a good survival horror game these days jaw dropping graphics are required for atmosphere, because if it doesn't have this then why not just play Silent Hill 2? You can buy it for 5 bucks and it's dripping in atmosphere and makes this game look even more avaerge. It's all especially embarrassing considering how old Silent Hill 2 is. Infact Eternal Darkness, another great survival horror game, looks graphically much better than this, again, another embarrassing observation

If you're interested in the genre of J-horror, I'd watch Ju-on instead, which is the original release. The Grudge was passable, but focused more on the special effects and Sarah Michelle Gellar than on the disjointed narrative setup that Ju-on had.

The game looks interesting, and I did find Ju-on quite creepy so I'll have to keep this on my radar. Also cool that the director of the movies is overseeing some of the games developement. I am kind of disappointed that no japanese horror games seem to be coming for HD consoles (or PC). Fatal Frame, Fragile, and now this are all for the Wii, and while I do admit that is where the majority of users seem to reside, I would love to see what developers could do to enhance the experience on the HD systems. After all, part of the experience of this genre is the slow-paced and uneasy atmosphere in the game, and I loved them on PS2 and Xbox and want that experience increased in HD and full surround sound :)

That is fucking bullshit. If you require "jaw dropping graphics" (something I have never seen), then you will live the rest of your life miserable. Also, if any game has made your jaw drop with the graphics, then you are easily impressed.

Ehh... horror games were never my thing. I kinda just want to shoot stuff. But I can definitely see this being a really cool experience for fans of that kind of movie. Graphics-wise, it's pretty unimpressive so far (could look better in motion), but seeing as it's a Wii game, a certain level of unimpressiveness is to be expected. Relative to the other consoles, at least.

That's been announced already, all the controls are mapped to the remote. B to move forward, wiimote to look around, down on the d-pad to move backward. I imagine that means in relation to the direction you're looking, so, not on rails. A for context actions. It may however not have strafing functions I guess (I don't know, there are no details). The wiimote-only choice was probably made to make casuals more willing to try it out, and if there's no strafing (they could map it on the d-pad as well) then that's also on purpose, to give it that Resident Evil horror feel of not being a very agile character that can escape anything. It's not an FPS.

PR for the US release by XSEED.

Torrance, Calif., (May 22, 2009) –XSEED Games today announced that JU-ON: The Grudge is in development for Wii and scheduled for release in North America in October, 2009. The title is inspired by the Japanese classic horror movie, “JU-ON”, on which the American release of the hit horror film “The Grudge” was based upon. JU-ON: The Grudge for Wii is a “Haunted House Simulator” where accessibility and instant scares are given priority over all other game aspects, with the original creator of the movie, Takashi Shimizu, serving as a creative consultant to game development.

It is said that when a person dies with a deep and burning grudge, a curse is born. When an average housewife in Nerima, Japan, was murdered in a grisly fashion, it gave rise to a curse so powerful that it threatens to kill at a pace thought unimaginable before.

The curse manifests on those who encounter the curse by any means, such as entering the house or being in contact with somebody who was already cursed. Once Erika Yamada is exposed to the curse while searching for her dog in an abandoned warehouse, the entire Yamada family is put in grave danger as soon as she reunites with them at home. They must now face their individual challenges alone, and only by overcoming the curse together will their family truly be free again.

”Ever since I first heard about this unique concept, this is a game that I’ve been looking forward to,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “JU-ON: The Grudge makes quick scares accessible to anyone with a Wii, players can even hand the Wii Remote to their mother and enjoy watching her play and get scared.”

Using the Wii Remote as a flashlight, JU-ON: The Grudge has players move forward with the touch of a button and explore haunted areas such as an abandoned warehouse, a dimly-lit hospital, and a mannequin factory. Much like a haunted house, the player must proceed forward even after being frightened and running away from the initial threat. As much fun as it is to get scared, sometimes it’s even more fun to watch others play to observe their reactions. For instant gratification, grab a second Wii Remote and push buttons to make in-game events happen immediately to make the player jump and hate you forever.

XSEED Games partnered with AQ Interactive to secure the North American rights to publish and distribute JU-ON: The Grudge. The title is being developed by Feelplus and will be available October 2009 exclusively for Wii.
