Even if those VGChartz numbers are more or less ballpark estimates, NSMB has the advantage of selling like hotcakes over in Japan. I guess it's not entirely too surprising.

#3. Even if you believe Nintendo's data that NSMB Wii has sold 4 million units in the US (which is probably true), Modern Warfare 2 still outsold that in the first month on Xbox 360 alone!  (4.2 million MW2 360 in 1 month versus 4 million NSMBW in ~2).

Considering Mario Bros DS is still selling, a half decade old game, anyone who thought MW2 would win probably still thinks the Wii is a fad. I would encourage one to enter to real world from time to time.

It's still too early to make assumptions on the bet, and this is from VGcharts, which is unreliable at best.  Granted, MW2 sold as much that NSMBWii did in half the time, but MW2 doesn't have the advantage of being on Wii, where software sales are more likely to speed up over time, not slow down. "

Yeah, this doesn't surprise me, since Nintendo games do have a lot of staying power (hence why a lot of older DS games still sell pretty well).

No, no there weren't, not on 360 where it sold the most anyway (and the "bet" was for a single platform). NSMBWii was pirated also, probably more than MW2 on 360. But 1 download doesn't equal one sale in the hypothetical case of nonexistent piracy anyway, though this insn't the thread for that. "

 I don't quite understand the celebration as far the bet goes. According to those numbers, Mario Wii still needs to make up 1.5 million copies in the United States to win. Or it could just be that I misunderstood the bet, in which case Mario Wii couldn't have possibly lost anyway with Japanese sales factoring into the equation.

It's not about the power of the console, but how people start fighting which character is better and they decided to have all the characters play the same. Which I don't agree with. If Smash Bros. taught anything, characters playing radically different from each other is actually funner. "
