Anyone bought Avatar stuff today?

I've just been like a kid in a candy store full of drugs in the avatar marketplace. Everything I saw was so cool except for the crappy skater stuff.
The gears cog outfits and bioshock stuff stood out for me as I didn't know they where gonna be in the update.
Anyway with my jaw constantly being dropped by awesomeness I forced myself to buy 2000 points.
I got the obi wan tunic for 320, the halo red beret for 80 and I just had to complete it all off with the lightsabre for 400.
I feel kinda stupid for forking over 800 points for some digital threads, but hey my avatar is now so cool I'm falling in love with my digital self :D
Did anyone else give in to Microsofts overpriced trinkets?

Nothing, and I most likely never will. To me, the whole avatar thing is kind of silly.

after shouting at my friend on friday telling her ill disown her if she gives in to buying silly avatar items....i sat there in wonder as i considered buying bioshock/cog/clone clothing.... i dont think I will be able to hold out for the whole day

Apparently every XBLA game that comes out from this date forward will support them.

You should! You could have bought an entire XBLA game for that money!

@JeffGoldblum:
I have all the arcade games that interest me, and I have 1200 left over for Shadow Complex.

I hooked up my Elite, bought every piece of clothing and every prop, and then unplugged it and put it back on the shelf.

#10 Edited by KamasamaK (2408 posts) -

No, and I don't plan to ever do so.

#11 Posted by RawShark (236 posts) -

I looked at the avatar stuff, and tbh, yeah. Kid in a candy store. I want a lightsabre.

But I had 40 points rattling around, so I bought a Monkey Island eyepatch, like Meathook has. Awesome.

#12 Posted by nrain (1274 posts) -
@RawShark:
The eyepatch has Big Boss possibilities, along with the beret.

I hope to god you are kidding.

I bought a lot of stuff from the Steampunk section, a lightsaber and a cult of rapture tee. Pretty nice actually, won't be buying anything else for a while though.

#15 Posted by Nexas (625 posts) -

I bought some of the steampunk stuff a little while ago.

I'm tempted to get the Sam Fisher outfit with the green light.  I've resisted so far...
#17 Posted by RHCPfan24 (8609 posts) -

I am very tempted to, trust me. That lightsaber is killing me...

#18 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7613 posts) -

I'm tempted by the Clone Trooper/Obi-Wan Kenobi items.
If I ever have spare points lying around, I may do it.

But yeah, 800 points to look like a Clone is a bit much, but I think they've proved people are willing to pay it, so....

#19 Edited by Creamypies (4051 posts) -

I'd rather spend those points on something that I can actually use; like the Gorrilaz track pack on Rock Band that was released today... that sounds like a much better investment than some "cool" threads.

Personally speaking, if any of my friends saw that I'd paid for that avatar crap, they'd mock the hell outta me for doing so... I have no idea what I would gain from getting them.

#20 Posted by The_A_Drain (3910 posts) -

No, absolutely no.

And if people want to send the message that you don't want this kind of bullshit, I advise you do exactly the same. These pieces of Avatar clothing take little more than one person a relaxed afternoon to produce, don't pay them ANY money for that, it's insulting.
#21 Posted by Shadow (4977 posts) -

Nope, nor did I when it was cool because no one else could.  If they had Giantbomb clothing though...

#22 Posted by CoverlessTech (737 posts) -

You are all part of the problem.

They are pretty much a scam but it's good to have something to spend those dusty points on.

Anyone who buys clothes for an avatar needs to be struck on the head several times with a hammer. Seriously.

#28 Posted by CitizenKane (10504 posts) -

I already have a hard time having the money to buy all the games I want.  I'm not going to waste money buying stuff for my avatar that people will only see for a few seconds at best.

NEVER!

(Anybody wanna post a pic of the NEVER lady?)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

#31 Posted by themartyr (691 posts) -

i dunno, i don't think it's that big a deal to spend money on digital clothing, if it makes you happy, it's about as worthwhile as buying a few chocolate bars.

Where oh where does the in hand shit show up at? I bought the light saber but don't see it any where WTF!

#33 Posted by JJOR64 (18909 posts) -

I've had the new dashboard since July 28th and I still haven't bought anything.

Way to go. You could have bought a cool game but you decided to spend that money on a virtual barbie accessory. You're just sending the message to these companies that it is ok for them to bend you over and enjoy your backside.

There's some kind of interesting stuff in there but I'm still finding myself very reluctant to actually pay to customise my 360 Mii look-alike. The only thing I've bought for my avatar so far was a Halo 3 shirt for 80 points.

@CoverlessTech: I'm sorry you don't have money to throw around, but try not to hate. We'll get threw this, yes we can!
#37 Posted by CL60 (16906 posts) -

It's beyond me why people will yell at people for buying avatar clothing...why does it matter at all..it's not your money, and you are not forced to buy anything..it's simple just don't buy it and let people who want it buy it.

#38 Posted by iam3green (14390 posts) -

no, i just think that it is a waist of money to buy that kind of stuff. microsoft just wants people's money. i find there is no use for avatars at all. u just see them when the 360 just turns on.

#39 Edited by Jeust (10479 posts) -

I bought a t-shirt and i'm happy with it.

80 points of a odd number of point that would remain unspent...

And about it being a waste... so gaming is to some extent.

Everybody should be free to spend their money/points however they want, without criticism.

And selling avatar clothes is smart business... as avatars will have increased importance over time.

In virtual parties and avatar games, for example.

#40 Posted by jonnyboy (2920 posts) -

The market place is in place, if you don't buy that stuff, eventually you will get it for free by unlocking it within games. Trust me.
Even if that doesn't happen, don't buy it anyway. Give your money to me instead. I'll spend it on something real. Like toilet paper.

#41 Posted by pause422 (6172 posts) -

No and I will never wasted my money on such garbage.

#42 Posted by sarahsdad (1079 posts) -

I'll never say NEVER to paying for Avatar clothes, but at least for the time being, I haven't noticed anything that I want to spend the points on.

#43 Posted by Aljosa15 (315 posts) -

Sadly, I bought that nifty looking BioShock shirt with the incinerate guy on it. It looks cool. Don't think I will buy anything more.

#44 Posted by JokerClown88 (1051 posts) -

I got a rubber chicken with a pully...
#45 Posted by Agnogenic_delete (1034 posts) -
@RHCPfan24: Me too. I would go perfect with my clone trooper outfit. :(
#46 Posted by EdIsCool (1122 posts) -

I just dont get it, as a side note how many people have not filled in their bio on live. I havent I dont give a toss..

#47 Posted by StarFoxA (5138 posts) -

I haven't bought anything, but it's difficult to resist with only 200 points left...

#48 Posted by Dolphin_Butter (1913 posts) -

I had 100 points left and I was looking at a couple of things. Then I realized most of the free stuff looks good anyway. Then I used the leftover points to buy a song off the Zune marketplace. Then I listened to that song. Then I was glad I didn't pay to spruce up my digital self.

#49 Posted by pornstorestiffi (4909 posts) -

No, and never will get any of this crap.

#50 Posted by HektikLyfe (37 posts) -

I hope the awards are at least visually different when compared to the items you can purchase.  So we can distinguish the Real G's from the fuchee's.
