The Batman: Arkham games are notable for their involvement with alumni of the famed Batman: The Animated Series cartoon series. most notably writer Paul Dini, who helped develop the story of the first two games, and various voice talents including Kevin Conroy who reprises Batman/Bruce Wayne and Mark Hamill who reprises the Joker, among many others.

Across most of the games, the gameplay remains similar to each installment. Players engage in free-flowing acrobatic combat with many enemies armed with various weapon types. Outside of open combat are two different mechanics. The most notable of these two modes is Predator Mode, where the player controls Batman stealthily engaging with heavily armed enemies who update their strategies as the situation changes. The second mode is Detective Mode, where the player controls Batman as they investigate a crime scene or solve mysteries.
