Here's Exactly What Max Payne 3 Looks Like

That does not look like Max Payne to me. Not at all.

Ok yeah looking at the screenshots immediately caused me concern

I love the character direction but...dude...Max Payne in broad daylight!? what is this? i does genuinely look like Uncharted 2.

That doesn't look like Max Payne... it has no real style to it, just a fat bald man with a gun.

Nooooo.... what have they done to my beloved Max. I knew he was going to be older and bald but i was at least expecting a leather trench coat.

What the hell? That's not Max Payne at all. I was really hoping Rockstar could pull it off, but this doesn't fill me with confidence.

I'm all for the new setting. I have no doubt, given the pedigree of the developers, that the game will be fun to play, and that the story will be suitably gritty and violent.

However, I feel like the noir style really needs to be present in a max payne game, and i'm not sure how they're going to do that in a tropical locale. Not saying it's impossible. But it's definitely not easy.

I am wanting to know only one thing; Where is Max Payne? That game that was perpetually set at night? That game which was inspired by film noir? All I am seeing is Uncharted Redux. I am not filled with confidence.

Rockstar is  doing a hell of a job unselling the game for me. This looks like some Kane and Lynch/Uncharted/ abomination now.

Some times i think developers all talk to eachother about upcoming games they are working on and the cool locales that will be popular to the gamers so that they can all copy it and get people to subconsciously liken to their game simply because they recognize locales they've seen in other games they enjoyed.

I love Max Payne and will pre-order this shit. Its fucking Max Payne, no way to go wrong.

To everyone bitch about his looks, years of fighting and hardship does a work on a man. Given the events that have happened to Max, this look is perfect.

Wow... completely unexpected this kind of art style...  I actually thought they were going to go for something dramatically cell shaded.  Apparently hobo-Max has moved to Iraq.

I can't see why Naughty Dog would be upset.

Nathan Drake's character exists in a game world where the location of Uncharted 2 fits perfectly. Max 3 looks like he went on vacation and got on the wrong plane. Maybe he's looking for his luggage which has been spread around the city? He has to jump over log traps and climb vines to get his pants back.

If you look really close you can see Sam Fisher in the distance wondering why Max has followed him into the last Splinter Cell game.

Max Payne's journey into the night will continue... Apparently into a sunnier locale.

what the hell. I don't think this dev team is good enough to make this setting work with the max payne style of story telling.

It looks a little... bright. Too bright.

Granted, I'm normally sick of BROWN FILTER, GRAYISH BROWN, REALSTIC GRAFIX... But for Max Payne, Grimdark is a necessity since it's basically a playable film noir.

To me, Max Payne was more about the bullettime-ass-kicking-adventure, and less about the looks.  I have high hopes about this game, I hope to hear good things at it moves along the development cycle.

it kind of seems out a place. max payne just isnt max payne if it isnt an urban gritty environment.

The only explanation I am buying as to why Max Payne looks completely different is he had plastic surgery done.

Um ok calm down people... Its a dramatic change in image, but arent you tearing the game apart based on a couple of screenshots?

I still say that it looks god AWFUL.

WTF!?  Tropical locales!!?  This my friends is not max payne!!  But, I'm not going to judge the game just yet.  Even though, as of right now, those screenshots don't even begin to evoke "darkness".

This has a long way to go if it's going to be anywhere near what fans of the originals are looking for.

People that think this look makes sense for Max Payne don't get Max Payne. I'm all for an older, tired and broken down Max. This isn't it.

LOVED the first game.

I've never played a max payne game but I fucking love the fanboys whining about this, and it makes me want to play this game.   I really love the idea of rockstar basically saying "fuck you" to the fans, but when the game comes out they'll probably have to add "...for doubting us." onto the end of their "fuck you," because rockstar makes great games.

His new look kinda reminds of Marv from Sin City (movie version). At least he isn't constipated anymore.

These screenshots and the info so far released for Max Payne 3 seem contrary to the expectations that naturally arise from use of the Max Payne license.  Either this is a cash-in on the Max Payne name, or the creative liberties taken here are looking too drastic.

Looks weird....tropical locales are more akin to Uncharted than anything else. Nonetheless, I will have hopes that this game will be good. It has potential like any Rockstar game.

I'm withholding judgement. These all could be from one level. Besides, just because something is set during the day doesn't mean it's themes can not be dark and gritty. People use contrasts all the time for emphasis and effect. It's kind of why the creepiest thing in movies and game at some times can be a little girl. Barbed wire fences, graffiti on broken down houses, bullet holes in walls, sure the setting is tropical but it doesn't look like a paradise. Again, playing devil's advocate, it could be trash but I'm gonna wait for more.

This change is pretty crazy, and I'm one of those who didn't even like them changing Max Payne's appearance in the second one.

where are the drugs and hookers!

Somebody said it for me, he looks like bruce willis, whereas before he looked like a younger clint eastwood whose world had taken a terrible dump on him.

I like the old and grizzled Max, but I don't really like Brazil.  Max Payne should be a bit darker, but this is going off very limited info.  Looking forward to seeing more.

What's with all the tropical settings these days huh? I don't want to dick around in some jungle local and catch malaria! Man I am livid about this, I understand a bit of straying from the source material, but it's pa-fucking-thetic that the turd of movie looked more like Max Payne than this does.

Hmm, not really feeling the tropical setting but if its anywhere close to as good as the first two, I'm onboard. Nobody does stylish 3rd person action quite like Max Payne.

Where is the film noir that made the first games so great?

So wait, where's NYC? Where's the noir feeling? And why the hell did Rockstar send you Uncharted screenshots instead of Max Payne ones?
