nice. i dont have the PS3 but i really liked the slim pS2 i have. a good and obvious marketing move.

I hope this is true, well, I'm pretty sure the PS3 slim is true. I'm talking about the release date being next week, although that seems somewhat early. That's six days for now, next Monday! Then again, we'd be getting some pretty quick hands-on and reviews of the product.

I'd buy one if I didn't have a fat PS3. All the fat jokes are really hurting it's self esteem.

If they say that this new model will have backwards compatibility, but the 80gb model will not get it, I'll be extremely pissed.

if i had the $299 and it was fully backwards compatible like the first ones i would buy one in a heart beat. But i doubt they will do fully BC again which sucks major balls.

I would only but it if it was backwards compatible with PS2 games. Otherwise, I'm already set.

I couldn't care less about a slim PS3. I replaced my stolen PS3 a couple weeks ago with the 160gb version. Do I really want to spend money on one just because it's an inch thinner or whatever? I mean, is it going to make THAT much of a difference in the footprint of my home theater? Not at all.
 
Now, if the slim PS3 were 160gb (apparently it won't be) *and* kept the easily upgradable drive of the current PS3 *and* didn't lose any USB ports or anything, I might be interested.
 
I guess if you really need that extra inch of vertical space in your home theater cabinet or something, then the Slim PS3 is super awesome. Otherwise... *yawn*. Get back to doing awesome stuff, Sony. It's not your lack of a slim PS3 hampering your sales. Its your lack of awesome exclusive games. My XBOX 360 collection clocks in at over 100 games. My Wii collection clocks in at about 18 games (and I haven't even played it in over a year). My PS3? I have 8 games for it.

Doesn't it seem weird that Sony can't really keep a secret anymore. They blew it with the new PSP Go when all that was leaked, and now this. They need to plug some leaky holes in that ship.

I really dont think this is enough to get Sony back into the chase.  The games are just still lacking for me.  And multiplatform games are not gonna do as well as the Xbox and 1st party games have disappointed.  GT5, no where to be seen, Ratchet and Clank was just the same as before.  Killzone 2 disappointed so much. 
But I am more interested to see how this changes the pricing landscape. Here are my thoughts. 
PS3 Slim $299 
Xbox 360 Elite $249, probably in a few months since they probably shouldnt have their console with the same HDD space and no blu ray 
Nintendo Wii $199, finally a price drop, they need to recoup that momentum some how and release quality games for once.  Has there been a worthwhile game for the Wii this year? 
Xbox 360 Arcade $179.  A nice price that keeps them under the Wii but not exactly $150.

So instore on day-one announcement or preorder on day-one announcement?

But really, outside of Nintendo, both Microsoft and Sony are terrible at keeping secrets. PSP Go, PS3 Slim, Xbox 360, NXE, motion camera for 360, both companies have troubles when it comes to keeping a lid on stuff.

Prediction: if Sony lowers price of PS3, Microsoft lowers price of elite. If Sony doesn't, then Microsoft doesn't.

It's still gonna be a tough sell for me without full BC.
