It's not too much of a surprise that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood exists, or that it's got multiplayer in it, since Ubisoft's basically been talking about one for a couple of days and announced the other awhile back. But at least it's all out in the open now. Ubi released a couple of pieces of concept art and a few details about the next game in the Assassin's Creed franchise this morning. Hey, here's that concept art now!

As you might expect from the name, Brotherhood has you, as Ezio, out recruiting assassins to be a part of your order. You'll do this during the game's single-player campaign, which is clearly stated to be "over 15 hours" long. The game will be set in Rome, and your goal will be to build a brotherhood of killers and deploy them to combat the local Templar presence.

New gadgets are also mentioned, including parachutes and an "advanced flying machine." The game will also contain some sort of multiplayer mode, which sounds like it's class-based, with each class having "their own signature weapons and killing moves." The multiplayer modes are said to be "unique," but aren't detailed in the available information.

The game is listed as a Holiday 2010 release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Honestly the singleplayer is more interesting to me than the more touted multiplayer.

Really nice, but I rather just have Assassin's Creed III with multilayer instead of some spin-off.

Would rather see them put more time into polishing the single player game. AC2 had quite a few frustrating bugs in it that took away from the enjoyment of the game.

On the other hand if they can smooth out the singleplayer while also crafting a unique and fun multiplayer game I'm all for it. How about some co-op in the campaign mode while they're at it ;)

I enjoyed Assassin's Creed 2 and in particular Ezio as a character so I look forward to seeing more of that particular period in the franchise.

The notion of multiplayer seems a bit odd to me, it isn't something I've ever wanted from an Assassin's Creed game so I'm a little worried that so much effort will be put into a feature no one really asked for in the first place. Perhaps that time could have been spent on expanding and improving single player content?

I said it on Kotaku and I'll say it again here: No more Ezio! We had a good thing going hopping around different time periods. I had always assumed the final chapter would have us taking up the role of Desmond Miles in the modern world - I guess that means we're in for a Saga and not a Trilogy.

Sounds good to me. I'm glad they're not just releasing a multiplayer expansion, especially after that tease at the end of ACII. I'm not quite sure how multi will work with Assassin's Creed, but I trust in Ubi that they will make it work.

Well, I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be a one-off type thing. This is not Assassin's Creed 3, this is Assassin's Creed: Side Story. So this game will happen this year, and then a proper follow up to Assassin's Creed 2 will happen next year... I actually liked Ezio, so I don't mind them throwing out more story stuff about him just as an aside. Plus, this gives them a chance to try out a multiplayer component without it effecting Assassin's Creed 3.

I don't think the storyline can manage in just a trilogy. Seriously, Desmond barely knows shit and he's supposed to save the world? No way. It's like Luke going for the Emperor right after meeting Obi Wan.

Also, remembering how hard I liked AC2, I am stoked.

A 15 hour long campaign? Geez, I just might buy this, not very interested in the multiplayer, but I played Assassins Creed 2 to death!

My very first S Rank. I just hope this doesn't act as an expansion pack, not worthy of being a full on game, like ODST. Even though I liked ODST, but that should not have been a stand alone game.

I would definitely prefer them to continue on with Assassin's Creed 3 instead of making this. The ending of Assassin's Creed 2 was one of my favorites I've ever seen and I am reallly excited for the next one.

Please, Ezio is cool, but he is no Rico. What do they think they are doing? Parachute? Really? I liked the first game because beyond all of the mysticism in the story, the game was fairly grounded. This is just getting further and further from that original style every time. Advanced flying machine? Who wants to bet it won't be some crappy 2 minute sequence, but an old school heli with rocket launchers? The MP stuff is neat, I just wish they would tone the game down a bit on the craziness (like jumping down like 40 feet to assassinate someone when your on a building, using large fires to soar up into the sky, and having dead aim with an instant kill mini pistol strapped to your wrist., etc)

Seems interesting I suppose, but I'm not really liking the quick turn-around between games.  Sure, I really enjoyed the setting of AC2, but I can't say I'm super excited to go playing the same game again.
Also... multiplayer?  Unless it's cooperative, I can't see it being a good idea.

    Love this franchise.  Can't wait.

Personally, I think the (currently massive) sales nosedive if they ever take the franchise entirely modern day - the more casual gaming audience dig it because it's historical fiction and offers something a bit different.  Maybe they intend to split the franchise like this on a more permanent basis, CoD style?  I could see that.

I'm sad to say it, but until Ubisoft realizes that their PC DRM is draconian and anti-consumer, I won't be buying another product from them.  I really enjoyed AC 2 on the 360, but there are already more good games out than I can possibly find time to play.  Ones that won't kick me out of single player if my net connection is offline.  Ones that don't punish legitimate customers.

I'll just read about what happens in the story online, for free.  I'll spend my $250 of entertainment budget that month on something else.

Watch them totally Brutal Legend this, and it ends up being an RTS where you fly around as Ezio with the flying machine, giving orders to units.

By buying the 360 version and passing on the PC one, you don't support Ubisoft's DRM any more than you do by not buying the game at all.

The only thing that's going to affect their DRM are the PC sales. The console sales don't mean shit.
