Steam Release for Borderlands confirmed + extra features on PC
I'm still ticked off that the PC version will be better than the console versions. Sure, punish those who aren't willing to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on getting a good gaming PC and upgrading it when necessary.

Those Steam 'exclusive features' are a joke.
" @Jimbo: True, but I don't understand why they would make the PC version run better. Better framerate, better visuals. Doesn't make sense. "High-end PCs can handle higher framerate and better graphics, so Gearbox gave the PC version of Borderlands higher framerate and better graphics. What's not understandable about that?
And those features a big deal why? I don't mind not having high end visuals as the PC version will have, that's to be expected. But a benchmarking tool and making picture cards out of weapons, that doesn't seem like features that will sell the game.
" @Jimbo: True, but I don't understand why they would make the PC version run better. Better framerate, better visuals. Doesn't make sense. "As has been the case with most multiplatform games on a decent PC since the dawn of time.
You think they should put a false lock on the PC version so that it doesn't perform better than it's console counterpart? You wouldn't consider that 'punishing' PC gamers? Why not lock it to what a 486 can handle so that we don't upset those guys?
" @natetodamax: I'm totally with you on this, games like Borderlands, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress. I completely end up skipping on because of the awkward way they deal with consoles. "You mean the "thumbstick"? I agree. FPS do feel very awkward with a thumbstick. Hopefully future motion controls will fix this issue, but the current ones don't seem up to the task.

i hope thats sarcasm,
Those Steam 'exclusive features' are a joke. "They aren't Steam exclusive features. They are just PC features which, when it comes to multiplatform games of today, are pretty good.
Any publisher that doesn't put their game on Steam is just fucking stupid.
Glad to see it on there, even if I may not buy it.
" @Jimbo: True, but I don't understand why they would make the PC version run better. Better framerate, better visuals. Doesn't make sense. "Dude...PC versions of games always have the potential to look better. They probably did the consoles the best they did for a steady framerate of 60 fps or 30fps(dunno what they were going for), but you can always push it further on PCs..this isnt anything new. And the redone menus are honestly just fair. If they made the menus very controller accessible, it would suck for people playing on PCs and be a bit annoying..so its just completely fair on every end. Console people aren't geting ripped on in any possible way.
OMG THE PC VERSION IS GOING TO LOOK BETTER THAN THE CONSOLE VERSIONS WILL!!
How is this new? And why is it a reason to be pissed off.. There is a reason why PC gamers spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on their system. If they wanted console-like graphics they would buy, you know, a console.
" And those features a big deal why? I don't mind not having high end visuals as the PC version will have, that's to be expected. But a benchmarking tool and making picture cards out of weapons, that doesn't seem like features that will sell the game. "Go play Saints Row 2 on PC, then come back and see why this is a big deal.
" @pornstorestiffi said:That did't answer my question. Why is a benchmark tool and JPG cards of weapons a big deal. Your comment didn't even make sense to me, i wrote that the PC has better graphics and that is to be expected, seems logic to me. So please let me know, what's so cool about Saints Row 2 again? did that also have a benchmark tool, and a useless JPG feature? since you mentioned it.
" @Jimbo said:You're right, I somehow read that as "Buy it from Steam and you can export your guns as jpegs!1" (to be fair, the title of the article is a bit ambiguous). Those Steam 'exclusive features' are a joke. "They aren't Steam exclusive features. They are just PC features which, when it comes to multiplatform games of today, are pretty good. "
OK, "Those PC 'exclusive features' are a joke."
I'm still not going to feel grateful just because they actually put some effort into the PC version and included features (Benchmarking, PC friendly HUD) which should be standard features in any PC game anyway.
" I'm still ticked off that the PC version will be better than the console versions. Sure, punish those who aren't willing to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on getting a good gaming PC and upgrading it when necessary. "You aren't being punished. We are being rewarded.
" @Jimbo: True, but I don't understand why they would make the PC version run better. Better framerate, better visuals. Doesn't make sense. "This post made me laugh.
They don't make the games run poorly on consoles. That just happens because consoles suck. The visuals are better on PC because a high-end PC can do things that a PS3 or 360 could only dream of doing. They aren't discriminating against console users, they're just taking advantage of the best available gaming setup - The PC.
Also, if anyone didn't catch that the entire news post was a joke...
Wow.

All the features they posted (except for the JPG cards, which are useless enough to be a joke themselves) are pretty much expected from PC games. The benchmark is a cool feature, but modified menus and such are the kind of thing that if they aren't there, people freak out. (See RE5)" @TheGremp said:

What co-op game nowadays doesn't have voice chat built-in? Everything about this article came off as satirical, but maybe it's just me.it's unclear as to whether or not the game has built in voice chat

I don't like it but it's a fair deal for the PC gamers. How many times do the consoles get the better version only for the pc to be either left out or just the game on it's own with no dlc. I will still buy on the xbox cause my friends will have it on theirs.
" @natetodamax said:On top of that, if the developer is doing it's part for optimizing for the vastly different systems that PC's will have then things like this come together naturally." @Jimbo: True, but I don't understand why they would make the PC version run better. Better framerate, better visuals. Doesn't make sense. "Of course it makes sense. It's allowing the PC version to take advantages of the abilities that only the PC has. Limiting those features would be a dick move on their part. It's kind of expected for the PC versions of multiplats to be superior in a lot of ways on the PC, that's how it's been for awhile. "
Gearbox always seems to favor the PC versions of their multiplatform games. I guess they're trying to make up for their horrible port of Halo 1 to PC all those years ago.
But seriously, even more than Valve or many other companies, Gearbox will still favor the PC version highly over others. That's just my own experience with their games and the people (to the extent I know them).
edit - It's far from a natural development process or natural focus on the advantages of PC. They will FOCUS on making the PC version better, even if their other versions suffer.
" edit - It's far from a natural development process or natural focus on the advantages of PC. They will FOCUS on making the PC version better, even if their other versions suffer. "Well, yeah, Gearbox would as would a few other companies. But, usually, if the company doesn't have a history of favoring one end of the spectrum or the other, things such as better visuals tend to come out naturally on the PC largely because of the balancing act that is optimization.
" @CowMuffins said:I was talking about the mouse enabled menus. Saints Row 2 didn't have mouse support, you had to use your keyboard to navigate ALL of the menus. It was a pain, especially diagonal items." @pornstorestiffi said:That did't answer my question. Why is a benchmark tool and JPG cards of weapons a big deal. It's not an balancing act or optimization. These days if a multiplatform game looks better on PC it's because good modern PC hardware has more power; you naturally get higher resolution rendering and better image quality. Very rarely because of extra artistic and technical work, like Gearbox is putting into the PC version of Borderlands. That's why it's different, and that's the main reason I could see console only gamers being upset about this particular title; it does buck the current trends a bit." @Diamond said:

Cool. But I will probably never buy anything again ever on Steam. 50 euros for a game that costs between 30 and 40 is not an acceptable price. Fuck Steam.
I say this as a huge Valve fan. I've just hated Steam since they decided it was a good time to completely rape their european customers, thats all.
