Now me as a lowly Gamestop employee asked his manager to play Braid, which he did. I asked him how he liked it. He said he didn't like it at all. Ok, this is fair, not everyone is going to like what I like. So I ask him why out of curiosity, his answer..."it just combined donkey kong & mario". and he said this in fron of a customer which was curious about Braid, I fear the comsumer wont try it out know seeing as how he was turned off about the idea. I argued saying it isn't a platformer, but a puzzle game. He just said "well my main objectives was solved with jumping. So answer this for me community, is Braid a puzzle game, or platformer?

Pleas esetlle this argument
"I lol'd at esettle. But anyways, I think Braid is a Puzzle game."
I think it is Killer App like LBP jk jk
Wouldn't be the first time I heard a gamestop employee talking out of their ass (no offense to you personally, of course).
It's a puzzle game. You can have all the platforming skills in the world, but if you're as dumb as your boss sounds, you're never going to finish the game. You can also let your boss know that Braid is by FAR the highest scoring XBLA title on metacritic.
Braid is about as "like donkey kong & mario" as Portal is "like doom and call of duty."
"but its just not merely a combination of Mario and Donkey Kong"Where the hell does Donkey Kong come in? Donkey Kong ain't got no magic Delorian!
People who only played the demo get this impression very often, I think. They feel it's just like Mario Bros. (or any other Jump'n'Run) with Prince of Persia time rewinding. Tell your boss to play more of the game if he really wants to find out if Braid is good or not. The demo is not enough (which is stupid, as a demo should show off the best parts of the game, but then it would have to be longer and MS didn't want that apparently...)
It's a puzzle game in the same vein as the likes of classics like king solomons mines, lost vikings, shadow of the colosus, the abe games, ico etc. Just becuase ti's not tetris doesn't make it a platformer, as your boss if he considers lemmings a construction game inthe vein of sim city as you have to build stuff in it lol.
Sounds like your boss didn't play it at all, but looked at some screenshots in the totally awesome (sarcasm) Game Informer magazine. That's where they showed the Monkey holding the cannon in that one level which resembled Donkey Kong.
No this game is a platformer with heavy puzzle elements, in my opinion.
To answer your question, yes, you are absolutely correct in you assumptions, and your boos has it all completely wrong.
Now, to answer the topic title, I would think Braid is a platformer, with includes puzzle elements, for the same reason I think that finding coloured keys to open matching doors dosen't make Doom a puzzle game. All the basic mechanics of Braid are platformer based, and even some of the puzzles require traversing floating plaforms while jumping and using special powers, and avoiding enemies.
And, being a mix of DK and SMB is not such a bad think either, but calling Braid that is a bit like like calling Half-Life 2 a mixture of Castle Woolfenstine and The Incredible Machine.
