Castle Crashers
Castle Crashers is a video game that consists of 2 releases

Castle Crashers is a beat 'em up / adventure game with light RPG elements developed by "The Behemoth". Originally announced at Comic-Con 2006, the game was finally released on Xbox Live Arcade on August 27, 2008 at a cost of 1200 Microsoft Points.
Overview
Castle Crashers is a classic beat 'em up in the vein of NES classics like Final Fight or River City Ransom. It has 26 playable characters, 40 unlockable weapons, and 26 animal orbs along the way. The game contains light RPG elements, such as allowing you to upgrade your characters stats, weapons and magical abilities. The entire game is playable with up to four friends over local play, Xbox LIVE, or a mixture of both. It also includes an Arena with several player vs player game modes, including quickdraw (a game mode using only arrows), treasure hunt (where players dig for treasure and damage the enemy by collecting it), normal deathmatch style mode, and All You Can Quaff (button mashing to eat food). The game costs 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 USD).Gameplay
Players earn experience for their characters every time they hit an enemy, this means that two players can simultaneously earn experience by striking the same enemy. Each time a character levels up, they are granted experience blocks that can be added to one of the four character attributes: strength, how much damage you deal to opponents; defense, how much damage you absorb from enemy blows; magic, how much damage your magical abilities do; or agility, how fast you run and how much damage you do with a bow. Every five experience blocks you put into magic grant a new spell, as well. Initial levels provide two experience blocks to upgrade a character's abilities while later levels only give one block. As a character levels up, they will also earn other bonuses like new combos or new magic abilities.Characters

Animal Orbs
These little creatures can be found hidden within a level or from defeating certain enemies, and some are even bought from shops. Animal Orbs follow your character around and each pet will provide their own unique ability to aid you in battle. Running into an orb in a level replaces your current one, but any animal orb you have already picked up will be waiting for you in the animal ark found in the Blacksmith's area. Like the weapons, you are not able to see precisely how the Animal Orb will affect you as soon as you pick it up. You must travel back to the animal ark in the Blacksmith's area, where you can find out what ability your current animal orb has.- Chicken (increases defense, strength and agility) - Flooded Temple. When you reach the first dry land section there is an X on the ground, dig there to get the chicken.
- Cardinal (helps you find secret items) - Industrial Castle. When you reach the top floor of the castle after riding the elevator, kill the brute and he is yours.
- Owlet (retrieves hidden fruit from trees) - Forest Entrance. Right before you exit the deadlands, go behind the overgrown area and swing your weapon.(you should see music notes)
- Mr. Buddy (helps you dig faster) - Home Castle. Go back into the first room where all the tutorial people are and at the back far wll, there is an X on some hay. Dig there and he is yours.
- Giraffey (helps you level up faster) - Desert. Look for X shapes in the sand and dig them up, and eventually you will dig him up. I believe there are about 10 X's.
- Snoot (increases your strength) - Cyclops Fortress. Bomb the cracked wall in the very first room.
- Piggy (makes food give you more health) - Swamp Village Store. Purchased for 585 gold.
- Zebra (helps you find food in grass) - Desert Chase. After you escape from the spaceship, make sure you have a camel. About halfway through the level, you will see a man on a camel with the zebra following him. Chase him down and kill him to get the zebra.
- Rammy (knocks down enemies) - Tall Grass Field. Taken after beating the bear with the banner.
- Spiny (increases your defense) - Volcano Store. Purchased for 680 gold.

- Troll (slowly regenerates your health) - Thieves Forest. Behind a wall, use 3 bombs to set him free.

- Seahorse (allows you to move quickly through water) - Thieves Forest. Right next to the stream in the forest.
- Snailburt (increases defense but decreases your agility) - Marsh. Towards the end, he is right out in the open so you can't miss him.
- Scratchpaw (increases your strength and agility) - Sandcastle Interior. Use bombs on the cracked wall.
- Yeti (protects you from being frozen) - Snow World. Behind the first hut next to the cave entrance.
- Monkeyface (increases your luck finding items) - Church Store. Purchased for 750 gold.

- Hawkster (attacks fallen enemies) - Tall Grass Field. Blow the horn outside the huts where the sign of the horn is just before you get Rammy.
- Burly Bear - Tall Grass Field. With a sandwich and a couple of bombs, go to where you are supposed to climb the grass path, eat the sandwich and pull the rock away from blocking the cave. Bomb the crack in the wall and he is yours.
- BiPolar Bear (Mauls Enemies who are near death) - Snow World. As you walk up to the cave, use your horn by the sign and he is yours.
- Beholder (gives you a magical boost) - Full Moon. Play through the level with the Cardinal as your animal. At the second hut up the mountain path, it'll bring you a golden key weapon. This will unlock the door in the animal ark. He is behind that door.

- Dragonhead- (shoots enemies with fireballs) - Purchase the Necromantic Pack DLC
Weapons
Throughout the game, you will often find new weapons that you can equip to your character. Players can only carry a single weapon, so picking up a new weapon will cause you to drop your previous weapon, unless it is too high level, in which case you will keep the weapon you have equipped and the new weapon will be sent to the Blacksmith's Frog, where it can later be picked up and used. Every weapon you discover in the game will be stored inside the Weapons Frog in the Blacksmith's area, so you can always go there and get your old weapons back later. Each weapon has attributes that can increase/decrease your character's stats, so you should choose your weapons wisely. It is important to note that the game does not tell you what the stats are on any new weapon acquired, so you must travel back to the Blacksmith if you wish to see how a weapon will affect your performance. However, also note that there is a level restriction on each weapon, a low level 20.

To exit Insane Mode, go back into the same cave and you will return to normal mode. Beating Insane Mode will earn you a golden skull that shows up in the character selection screen.Patch
Early technical problems with the game are numerous. Xbox LIVE play badly lags, even with two players. Three- or four-player matches have so far turned out to be virtually impossible. In addition, there have been several reports of game crashes, random freezes, and complete game save deletion. A patch has been confirmed by Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp, the Castle Crashers creators. There is no confirmed release date, but they have said: "There are certain network settings, where, if you're in a very specific network environment, it won't work with another person's connection and that's what's happening. But that's something we're already addressing by working with Microsoft to get a patch out as fast as possible." On 6 September 2008, one of the game's Developers announced that a patch is currently being developed and they hope to have it out as soon as possible to remedy the game's unfortunate technical shortcomings.

Trivia
- The Behemoth cite the game's main inspiration comes from Guardian Heroes and other Treasure games. Dan Paladin's main inspiration is Tecmo's game River City Ransom.
- The game features many references to Internet memes, one in particular being a cat in the ceiling of the Animal Orb shelter. This particular cat is most likely referencing the "Ceiling Cat is Watching You Masturbate" internet meme.
- The first shopkeeper in the game has dialogue over his head, that says "Buy somethin' will ya!", a reference to what the shopkeeper in The Legend of Zelda says.
- Upon defeating the cyclops boss, he promptly slips into a magma grave, and after some struggling, begins to sink. Before he is done, however, he raises his hand out of the magma and gives a thumbs up, a possible reference to Terminator 2.
- Speculation suggests that the buff alien you find in the level Alien Ship is that of the final boss from Alien Hominid.
- The install ball eye from Alien Hominid also makes a cameo in the Alien Ship level and can also be used as an animal orb.
- The final Princess is a reference to one of Dan Paladin's first flash videos on Newgrounds,
