    A Masterpiece 0

The idea of making Chrono Trigger started by a collaboration between three Japanese "giants" in the industry: Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasy), Yuji Hori (creator of Dragon Quest) and Akira Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball) had an event to attend in the US and they traveled together, where they shared the idea of making a game together. Just by this history, you must have a vision of how great this game could be, and they nailed it!I didn't own the game on my SNES, I eventually got ...

Undoubtedly one of the best games of all time 2

Chrono Trigger isn't just a game; it is a masterpiece. Designed by the masterful minds of many incredibly creative people at Squaresoft and Enix (including one Hironobu Sakaguchi), Chrono Trigger chronicles the adventures of a silent young boy named Crono. From to start to finish, every moment is one to remember. Many moments will make you laugh, a few sad ones might have a few in tears; all thanks to the absolutely amazing storytelling.Chrono Trigger's story is one of its innovations. Being one...

One of the Greatest Games of All Time 0

You hear the phrase "Best Game Ever!!" bandied around a lot these days.  However, I am not exaggerating when I say that Chrono Trigger justly deserves that title.  It is my favorite RPG of all time, and justly deserves to be on any greatest games of all time list.  The art, characters, and story all present a charm and wonder even in the midst of the swarms of RPGs out today.  The story is engaging, as you zip around time and try to save the world (of course).  It's pretty cool to see the effect...

An amazing game that still holds up today. 1

Chrono Trigger was an amazing game back when it was released in 1995. Unfortunately not many people had played it. If you were one of the people who were fortunate enough to have played it you probably completely understand why this game gets 4 and a half stars. This is a game with a great cast and a great story and great gameplay. The graphics were also great for their time and still look very sharp today. The story consists of a young boy who goes to a fair and accidentally bumps into a girl. ...

A Perfect Swansong to the 2D Era 0

Few could argue with the fact that JRPG's were at their pinnacle in the 4th generation of consoles. Some of the all time classics of the genre were born on Nintendo's popular SNES,that went on to become household names. However, despite boasting of producing some great gems in that era,the genre was literally stagnating. JRPG has never been a genre of rapid innovation. The developers have always stuck to the tried and tested formula, whether it is in the department of story or gameplay. But,...

    Timeless Classic 0

Chrono Trigger was the last great RPG for the Super Nintendo from Squaresoft, and remains a favorite of RPG enthusiasts more than 10 years after its release.  The development team was nicknamed the Dream Team, because they were composed of Final Fantasy veterans Hironobu Sakaguchi and composer Nobuo Uematsu, as well as Dragon Quest veterans Yuji Hori and Akira Toriyama.  This sort of partnership was unprecedented at the time, especially among rival companies like Squaresoft and Enix (whic...

    A timeless (literally) classic 0

In Chrono Trigger, players follow the footsteps of Crono as he journeys through temporal dimensions to save the world from its seemingly inevitable demise at the destructive claws of Lavos, an evil slug-like creature intent on sucking the life force out of earth in order to propogate its genes throughout the universe. Throughout his journey, Crono meets a colorful cast of companions, including Lucca, his tech savvy childhood friend; Marle, the princess of the medieval kingdom Guardia; Frog (my ...

    Chrono Trigger Review 2

Chrono Trigger for the DS is the latest port for the game that many would say is the greatest game ever created. You will take on the role of a regular guy who ends up going all over time trying to right the wrongs, and gaining valuable allies along they way.The sounds were what you would expect from a SNES game that was ported on the DS. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but what I will say is that this is one of the few games where I actually kept the volume on the entire time. The controls a...

The butterfly effect means nothing 0

Chrono Trigger DS : An altered rendition of the celebrated 1995 Super Nintendo RPG. Story : An ordinary, silent joe who just happens to be a sword expert named Chrono (or whatever you’d like to name him, as most text-based RPGs of the time let you name the characters after any profanity you choose) gets involved in his best friend’s experiment gone awry, and their mishap evolves into a quest that involves traveling through time, having no regards for altering the course of history and aiming to ...

Played through in Summer and Fall 2009. So….you play as this Ginger named Crono… who’s got a Frog in his throat and by his side (like what I did there? thank you) Anyway he accidentally gets sent through time, ending up in the future to realize, WHOA, there is no future. Now it’s up Crono and his Time Traveling Cronies(also their Punk Cover Band name) to change time and …yep… save the world. Chrono Trigger came out in the 90s, but I didn’t play this as a kid. It wasn’t until I delved into the wo...

An important chapter in gaming history. 0

Not many games get to have a legendary status that dares to transcend the test of time, among this panteon of titles stands Chrono Trigger as one of the few that helped define the action RPG scene, moving a large fanbase over the years. The re-release of this beast makes a loud statement that games are not only meant to be carried on by nostalgic fanboys from days gone by. One of the most noble acts which the 3DS gets to perform is finally enabling later Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 titles to...

Chrono Trigger puts the gamer in the shoes of an ordinary country boy, with dreams of becoming an adventurous swordsman, who ends up at the fate of time itself! Early on in the game, characters and story unfolds as you go to the Millennium Fair; a kingdom-wide expo. During the fun of the fair, you bump into a mysterious young girl who demands your attention for the duration of the festivities. After a while, you visit Lucca, a childhood friend who dabbles in gadgets and such, and try out her lat...

Reminding me why I like JRPGs 0

Chrono Trigger is one of those games that I regrettably missed growing up. I remember renting it back then but, I remembered almost nothing about it. Playing through the DS remake of Chrono Trigger only confirmed my lack of a memory for this game in that none of it was familiar to me and while I discovered what made this game great, I also found that this game deserved the praise it has received and is one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. The game starts during the Millennial Fair where Crono,...

Of Time Travel and Talking Frogs 0

I have something I need to get off my chest, guys. I'd never played Chrono Trigger until last month. Square Enix's 1995 Role Playing Game is widely considered one of the best ever, and as an avid RPG player, there's no legitimate reason for me not to have played it -- save the $250 price tag that comes with the Super Nintendo version, now a days. After years and years of patience, Square finally helped me out. They ported they're ill-forgotten classic to the Nintendo DS. Back in '95 Chrono Tr...

    Finger on the Trigger 0

I don't think there's anyone on the planet what calls themselves gamer that doesn't like this game. It's a time-travel RPG with all the bad bits of standard RPGs taken out of it. Namely, the god-awful turn-based Final Fantasy stuff, the popularity of which I just can't fathom. Nothing sounds more "action-packed" than navigating menus and then watching your characters slowly take turns performing actions while you have absolutely no control over how they attack or defend. Thankfully, Chrono Trigg...

The peak of Snes RPG's 0

Back when I was a chubby twelve-year old, I worked my way through any rpg's I could find at my local video store. One day I found this game. It was a few years later until I met anyone else who had played it, or found out how I wasn't the only one who thought this game was among the best I've ever played.    Now as a DS remake is in the works, today's chubby twelve-year olds are going to have something good to play. Chrono Trigger is an absolute classic with no noticeable flaws, stunning vis...

Timeless, unique, and a modern classic 1

I chose this as my first review on Giant Bomb for a reason.  No other RPG, or game in general for that matter, has ever captured me the way Chrono Trigger did.  I spent countless hours playing and replaying this amazing (if a little short) adventure.  The visual design is beautiful, the combat engaging and fast paced, but the true power of this game lies in its story.  It takes place in a fantasy world, and begins with the main character stumbling upon a time portal to the past.  Due to changes...

    Chrono and friends revisited 0

I remember playing many RPGs for the Super Nintendo in my youth. I would get together with a group of friends, and we would spend hours grinding our characters, advancing the storyline, and passing the controller off to each other while exchanging our ideas about how to make progress and discussing the storyline. Alas, as time went on, I moved to another state, and I haven't spoke to these friends since. That was over ten years ago. We played many Final Fantasy games, and some obscure RPGs...
