I decided that it might be a good idea to track my game buying this year and what easier place to do it than in my Lists?  So I did.  I think I may need to slow up a little.
Games I have bought in 2010.
In just 7 weeks I have purchased 28 games.  Granted, I am a bargain shopper, but still, that was $520 Au worth of purchases.  21 have been new and 7 used.  It has been a nice spread across systems as well, with 3 on the PC, 4 for the Wii, 5 for the 360, 2 for the PSP, 3 for the PS2 and 11 for the DS (my favourite system).  If I maintained that frenzy level of shopping, I would end up with 210 (or so) games and a divorce this year  ^_^

Anyone else overdoing it so far?

Those are some nice prices. Myers, seriously? I didn't know it was possible to get anything from there for under $50.

Star Ocean was pretty awesome, up until that point with the plot twist...
Overall i liked 4 more, despite the annoying as hell characters.

The Dawn of Discovery games on consoles seems weird to me, i've played it on pc, and i can't imagine it on a console, it seems insane.

Anyone who shops Myer for games is seriously demented.  I just drop in to see what they are clearing.  One time I picked up Project Gotham Racing for $6 and that is a good bargain.  Otherwise, it is a waste of time.  I rarely pay more than $50 for a game as there as so many bargains to be had.  Dead Space Extraction was a good find and I am really enjoying it so far.   Lux-Pain had crappy reviews but my daughter completed the game and really enjoyed it - never take reviews too seriously.

Even 12 is no small number.  You would push 80-90 games in a year if maintained.  You get many bargains in the Perth stores?  Which do you shop mostly?

Bayonetta 360 (clearance 27pounds), Dark Void 360 (clearance 15pounds), Wet 360 (clearance 12pounds), Darksiders PS3 (full price), Bioshock 2 PS3 (full price) and Mass Effect 2 360 (full price) are my 2010 purchases so far. I havent gotten Dark Void and Wet in the mail yet, but I played, finished and loved ME2, Bayonetta and Darksiders, and played (and loved lol) the Bioshock 2 multiplayer, havent started the single yet.

Also I have Heavy Rain, FF13, and God Of War 3, all PS3,  pre ordered too. So its shaping up to CRUSH 2009 for me, and to be one of the best years in my 25 years of gaming

@oldschool: There are plenty of opportunities to pick up cheap games. But these days in Perth there aren't too many independant small businesses. New releases I tend to go with JB HiFi as they tend to be the cheapest unless EB or Game have an opening week special. Big W and K-Mart often have good catalogue and clearance specials. I generally don't bother with Target they are useless. I find Dick Smith and Harvey Norman to be less helpful but once in a while you'll find something worth while there. Second hand I go with EB, they have could second hand warranties and I have the EB card that gets you a 7% discount on used games. Gametraders are good for used also and older, import and collector titles when I am looking for that sort of thing. Lately though Good Guys have been great for cheap games. They don't have much to pick from but I picked up Resident Evil 5 new from them for $10, FIFA street 3 for $7 and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes in Time  for $15.

You shouldn't have boughten SFIV. Super SFIV is coming out soon and that's what most people'll play online.

Well 7 weeks and .... 0 games for me!!!  :(   To be honest I have had a lot of coursework to do from school recently and have exams coming in sping so i don't have much time to spend playing games. Just been sneaking in about 10 games on MW2 each day but intend to add to my collection of games after my exams because I have 3 months off!!! WOOOO :D

And anyway why buy so many games? It will take you forever to complete all of them, especially Rome: Total War!? In days gone by I have spent WAY too much time playing that game!

Kids.  I tried it thinking I would like it anyway, but I can't say that I will be putting much time into it.  My youngest enjoyed it.  No regrets.

I wing it.  If you know the genre, you can usually figure out what to do.  Games that are text reliant (to solve puzzles) are best avoided.

@ScottishGamer said:

For my retirement - I plan to play them until I am 100  ^-^
I just figure that I will get around to playing them someday (or maybe not) and if I don't have them, I can't play them.  Screw it, I have an addiction  :-)
Games like R:TW are like Civilisation or Age of Empires - essentially, you can play them forever, as long as you still enjoy the challenge.

I don't like or play online, so it doesn't matter. @turbomonkey138 said:

On my next holiday, maybe it is time to give it another go at building.
I actually haven't given Madworld a go yet.  It requires an update and I haven't figured out what to do with the Homebrew on the NTSC Wii.  I think I will just remove it and put the latest one on again after.

Can I make a virtual fort from 1s and 0s?

When that happens, I will just keep playing old games and buying even more old games to take me into the nursing home  :-)

I don't because I can't.  I play a little of a lot and continue with the ones that really get me in.  Very often the ones i didn't expect to draw me in are exactly the ones that do, so at a price, I am willing to give anything a go (almost anything - not Wrestling and games that end in Z'ed).  Sometimes a go back to a game and finally "get it" and play the hell out of it.

I have the first 2 on your list.  I will at the very least try everyone of those games.  As for finishing them - no, I can count on 2 hands the number of games I have fully completed.  I doubt that I will give ant time to Wii Music and Guitar Hero, very little time to Streetfighter and Crackdown, a little time to Midnight Club and Defcon and a lot of time to the DS RPGs as well as Anno with the balance debatable.

With the prices they charge for a new game, I would have just 5 or 6 games for the same dollars.  I can wait for the many clearances coming up.

I know there is a lot of mixed feelings about this game (if you can call it that), but my kids have played it a bit and enjoy it.  I tried once and I don't see me using it much, but I have no regrets, it is good for what it is.

The reviews swing quite wildly, so that is what I mean by mixed feelings - everything from 25/100 to 91/100 and much in between.  It clearly is good at what it does, so it really comes down to do you want to do what it does.

We are now 15 weeks in and I suppose I have slowed a little - with 44 games, I am down from 4 games a week to 3.  I just got back from my usual business trip to Melbourne and managed to add 5 more DS games for only $62 Au.  My grand total of spending for the year is up to $885 Au, at an average of $20 a game, so my bargain hunting skills are still working.

You're close to matching the number of games I bought all of last year, and I went a bit overboard. I think I'm up to 20-25 games so far? Mostly cheap, small downloadable titles... very few new retail games. It's mostly been dirt cheap Steam deals and WiiWare/Virtual Console games.

There was very little to really add to my fort... although my fort is only big enough for a small cat at best.
