New and improved poll. Thanks CK.
My best is the PC. I've owned two PCs this decade and both have brought me much joy.
Handhelds... not my thing.
As for consoles, well I've owned pretty much everything this decade, but the PC took the cake and it wasn't a lie.
Best video game platform this decade? (Poll)
Eh same answer as last time! DS. Has a ridiculous amount of games on it and I spent a ton of time playing mine over the past few years. I really need to get a new one though. I have a legit launch day DS phat and I have never bought a lite or DSi. If that one with huge screens comes to the US I may consider it since my phat is on its last legs.
PC is a platform no matter the generation we're on. Games that I played on my old PC still play on my new one. I like my consoles, but the PC has been grand for the last ten years and all those games are backwards compatible." @Claude: Well there's a lot of ways it could be listed, but to me the fact that I wouldn't want to only be playing a Dreamcast today nor did I have a Xbox 360 in 2000 gets in the way of me being able to vote for a platform. "
" I guess I should vote considering this is the last chance I have. Good old Playstation 2, never let me down except when it broke on me on three separate occasions. That was not cool PS2, not cool at all. But it did bring me back into gaming when I slowed down. Thanks PS2. "The PS2 was my favorite home console I've ever had the pleasure to own. Hell, I bought two of those bastards. My big daddy PS2 broke twice before I gave it to a friend. I then bought the slim daddy, that was a good PS2... good times. Yeah, that was my favorite home console. I don't collect, so that shit is gone.
" @Claude: The point is PC in a list like this has both Resident Evil 4 and RE5, it has all the GTA series. RE4 was better on Gamecube or Wii. Though I'd rather play GTA4 on 360 or first played GTA3 on PS2, and those games came out later on PC, PC has them now. You buy new hardware as time goes on, so it's never the same platform as it was a while ago. In terms of voting I can say now that I appreciate 360 more as a platform than PC, but if I evaluate my gaming correctly in 2000 or 2001 I didn't even know what a Xbox 360 was (as it didn't exist). Basically the poll is a contradiction of quality versus quantity. Even a person who didn't ever own a gaming PC would have to recognize they didn't play on a single console throughout the period. Perhaps that is justification in of itself for voting for PC, yet it could just as likely be justification for voting for each of the consoles by that same logic. "I played GTA III on my PS2, but I played Vice City and San Andreas on my PC. I had played some Vice City on PS2 but the damn thing broke. PC wins, plus I liked the duel controls of dual analog for driving and keyboard/mouse for on foot. All... good times.
" PS2, so many great exclusives. The PS3 pales in comparison. "As if being exclusive somehow makes a game better? Pfft, whatever, man. Too Human is evidence in the contrary, also Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Borderlands, Resident Evil et al. As is Metal Gear Solid 4. If that game came out on the XBOX360 the load times would have been wiped.
Part of me wants to vote PlayStation 2, but I must say that some of the most fun I've had gaming has come from the PlayStation 3 in recent years. So, whatever, PlayStation 3 it is.
PS2; i wouldnt consider them on the same levels. Consoles generally only span a few years 5-7 on average. The PC platform for gaming has been around since well personal computers have been around; give or take a few years, roughly 20 years.
I've probably gamed the most on computers, but i'd list the PS2 as the platform that changed it.
I didn't mean the exclusives by themselves, i meant the games." @Jeust said:

So many great games for the PS2! Every other console pales in comparison.
PS2, no doubt. It's the best selling console of all time, and there are billions of games for the system. Not to mention that there are still PS2 games being produced.
I know the PS2 is gonna win a lot of votes here, and rightly so. I, for some reason, gotta go with the 360. I scoffed at the original xbox, didnt care at all when they launched the 360, but Bioshock got me to buy one and it's been love ever since. My personal favorite console of all time, flaws and all.
Really i don't know... Because unlike the ps3, the ps2 had no real competition, so most of greatest games launched in the ps2 for timeframe for home consoles where launched for it. Now games tend to divide thru the three main platforms, so unless there are more awesome games launched, it will probably not happen.
I think a case can be made for "best" platform for any one of the choices on the list. But since the neutrality platform isn't a choice I'd pick the PC for the lame, obvious reasons.
Being a lazy prick, i would say PC, but as said before, its not exactly a fair fight.
The best console of the decade has to be the PS2. So many games...
PS2. It just had so many great games in so many different genres that nothing even comes close to it. Plus Persona 4 is on it.
