Yeah I listened to a episode of GameSages which Brad was on along with some people from IGN and OXM.All of them were deeply uncomfortable about being called journalists. They prefered game press or games media.Journalists in their view are better trained and deal with corruption,war etc. They tell you how to spend 60 bucks.
Aside from Giant Bomb? Maybe Adam Sessler, but that's it. There aren't a lot of people out there that aren't just some moron with a crappy blog who misguidedly thinks he's going to parlay his unread blog into a life-long paying gig writing about videogames or someone who isn't just some hipster douche-bag going on about the deep meaning of Braid. With the exception of Adam Sessler and Giant Bomb, I'm more interested in the opinions of my fellow gamers.
Besides, if you listen to the average "journalist" from AOL sites like Kotaku and Joystiq and then all these other gaming sites and podcasts, they all start to say the same thing. They're like any other tech industry journalist or analyst. They love to hear themselves talk and build a twitter following, but when it comes down to it, they have a hard time finding their ass with two hands.

I agree. Journalists are people who cover issues. They actively pursue stories and do in-depth reports, whereas a member of the enthusiast press or games media typically lets the stories come to them and gives their opinions on existing media. I'm not saying the writing of game "journalists" is any less valid than the work of a writer doing said in-depth reporting or coverage, because it certainly is not in any way. I'm just saying that I don't think the people we like do reporting that would necessarily qualify them as journalists.

The topic was 'Who's your favourite', and in my opinion they do a decent job of providing gaming related news. I'm no English teacher so I can't say anything about their writing... It seems decent enough. Isn't it? Please enlighten me if they are at the bottom of the news providing business and I'll check someone else out. (No sarcasm intended)

Why would anyone say Yahtzee? He is a guy who is paid to act like a troll (Because I somehow doubt that the real Ben Croshaw hates every single game not named Silent Hill 2), and none of his opinions are really valid. Sure, he's funny but he can hardly be considered a game journalist.
As for non-GB journalists that I like, Adam Sessler is pretty good, and maybe Stephen Totilo.

To be fair, he does like Valve games, too. Oh, wait, I meant to say, "I said 'pre-second-E3.'" And yea, I realize that he's a troll, especially when it comes to casual games or Japanese games. Why else would he hate Nintendo so damn much?

I like all these people and Ryan Scott - Gamespy Jeff Green (ex) - 1UP Tina Sanchez - 1UP Dan Hsu - EGM/1Up Greg Kasavin (ex) Jeff Cannata - TRS (tough one, cuz he reviews other things on TRS, but he seems to be the most knowledgeable about games out of the crew) Kathleen Sanders (ex) - 1UP Veronica Belmont - Qore(?) (and because she's pretty. I mean, not to take away from her Qore/Tekzilla stuff, but she is)
edit: Geoff Keily also does some great interviews. I remember watching him back on Electric Playground when i was a kid, back before he became what he is now. I also loved the two guys from EP back in the day Tommy Tallarico and Victor Lucas.
There are a lot I like and many that I don't. It would take me too long to list the former and I'm not mean enough to list the latter. I don't think anyone has listed Gamasutra yet, though, so they deserve a name drop.
