What do you think of the new blockquote styling?
Having just been bemused by it, and checking a few pages to see if it was global, I can safely say I really like the quoting style, but not a fan of the text, it's to odd in comparison to the original posting text, I understand that's probably to differentiate between the two, but it just seems too different.
I feel I should add I can live with it though.
Yeah, I know blockquoting in boards is a really sensitive topic so I'm willing to work this out with everybody. Here's the reasoning for the change. I'm getting close to releasing the white version of giant bomb and using the "block" style quoting really fucks up the display in news stories. In general I've never been happy with the styling and always thought the boxy stuff got extremely messy within the boards. Unfortunately, because of the way our new editor works (which will go out to eveyone next week) I can't maintain a different style for the news and for the boards across two color sets without a lot of hacking.
That said I know this might be widely panned, but figured I'd give it a shot on you guys. Consider this an experiment at the moment.
It's not bad. It doesn't stand out as much as the last one. The text seems weird. But other then that I can live with it. Just got to get used to it first.
"Consider this an experiment at the moment. "
For those who havent had a chance to see it this is the style hes talking about :)
And personally I dont really like it as much, it blends in too much compared to the normal text. Its quite conceivable that at a glance you would only notice the "normal" text. Personally I say go back to the old one, though this is definately more stylish though I dont really subscribe to "form over function" myself.
" Consider this an experiment at the moment. "Good to know, but it is a tad ugly. Side question: Why do you guys even want a white version of the site? I didn't think that was considered important?
I actually quite like it, can't put my finger on why exactly... maybe it adds a bit of flavour to the quote.
Personally, I say keep it.
EDIT: I really, really like the new white look too. I'll be switching for sure.
" @Ineedaname: Ha, I tried that last time a couple months ago (trying to scale down the massive nested quotes. It was widely panned. "And by that I'll assume you mean a failure, and your creation cast back at you. Ah well.
Although you probably should sticky this.
Incase people go crazy, and wonder what he's replying to I deleted the post realising what he was talking about wasn't relevant to what I had suggested. But did so after he'd replied, damn you Snide, although you should damn me for making you look crazy.
Oh and just realised this is a font discussion, the one thing you have to do at GB, and you can't even do that right.
Tut tut, P.s. Iphone loading screen app, should be comic sans.....
What does this remind me of? Hmmm....

The sister site of another site I can't put my finger on.
" @Video_Game_King: And by that you mean Comicvine right? "Haven't been to Comic Vine, so I wouldn't know. Besides, it honestly reminded me of that mysterious guy.

Personally I prefer the old version, this new format doesn't stand out all that well and the font choice is a little difficult to read.

Edit: Meh, long quotes kind of blend in together. I can't imagine how hard it might be to read if there are paragraphs of multiple quotes.
I think it's ok, I don't really know where else you could take, It looks like most of the users could manage.
The new styling does look great in that white layout, though!

" @Video_Game_King said:The question is, do these still suffer the same problem the old ones did when you get a large quote tree going? As in- will it cut messages off once you go above a certain number of nested quotes? That was my big problem with the old system. This looks formatted fine, the lettering is just a touch odd looking." @Ineedaname said:Ah it's the same build as this. I preferred the old style myself. Since this is an "experiment," I think some tweaking will make it better. (I don't think the font change is necessary, but making the text that's quoted a different color is a good idea, I think). I also rather like the quoted text filling up a whole box rather than just a line on one side. That said, even if this was final and not experimental, it's tolerable.
" @Stang said:I agree, and the text is really weird. On the other hand, the white background looks very nice and clean, I can't wait." @gingertastic_10 said:Just an example to show what having two quotes together looks like.
