Change.

Is.

Bad.

Always.

For the sake of being serious, I am indifferent. Looks a little more stylish though.

Having just been bemused by it, and checking a few pages to see if it was global, I can safely say I really like the quoting style, but not a fan of the text, it's to odd in comparison to the original posting text, I understand that's probably to differentiate between the two, but it just seems too different.

I feel I should add I can live with it though.

Yeah, I know blockquoting in boards is a really sensitive topic so I'm willing to work this out with everybody. Here's the reasoning for the change. I'm getting close to releasing the white version of giant bomb and using the "block" style quoting really fucks up the display in news stories. In general I've never been happy with the styling and always thought the boxy stuff got extremely messy within the boards. Unfortunately, because of the way our new editor works (which will go out to eveyone next week) I can't maintain a different style for the news and for the boards across two color sets without a lot of hacking.

That said I know this might be widely panned, but figured I'd give it a shot on you guys. Consider this an experiment at the moment.

It's not bad. It doesn't stand out as much as the last one. The text seems weird. But other then that I can live with it. Just got to get used to it first.

For those who havent had a chance to see it this is the style hes talking about :)

And personally I dont really like it as much, it blends in too much compared to the normal text. Its quite conceivable that at a glance you would only notice the "normal" text. Personally I say go back to the old one, though this is definately more stylish though I dont really subscribe to "form over function" myself.

Yea, what the hell is with the text? Is it a glitch or is it completely intentional?

Good to know, but it is a tad ugly. Side question: Why do you guys even want a white version of the site? I didn't think that was considered important?

I actually quite like it, can't put my finger on why exactly... maybe it adds a bit of flavour to the quote.

Personally, I say keep it.

EDIT: I really, really like the new white look too. I'll be switching for sure.

And by that I'll assume you mean a failure, and your creation cast back at you. Ah well.
Although you probably should sticky this.

Incase people go crazy, and wonder what he's replying to I deleted the post realising what he was talking about wasn't relevant to what I had suggested. But did so after he'd replied, damn you Snide, although you should damn me for making you look crazy.

Oh and just realised this is a font discussion, the one thing you have to do at GB, and you can't even do that right.

Change the font back to Arial.

Just an example to show what having two quotes together looks like.

Personally I prefer the old version, this new format doesn't stand out all that well and the font choice is a little difficult to read.

Going for triple quote. In case I ever get in a heated argument...

Edit: Meh, long quotes kind of blend in together. I can't imagine how hard it might be to read if there are paragraphs of multiple quotes.

@snide: I certainly think it looks fine when it's only quoting one person. It's when it's nested that it starts to break down a bit. As such, I think I prefer the old version. Is there no way you can just keep the grey-stroked box from the old version without filling it with the darker colour? Then if you toggle between dark and light there's still a boxout, and the light grey stroke (with no fill) will show up against either option. Sorry if I'm being naive / ignorant / annoying with this suggestion.

The new styling does look great in that white layout, though!

The question is, do these still suffer the same problem the old ones did when you get a large quote tree going? As in- will it cut messages off once you go above a certain number of nested quotes? That was my big problem with the old system. This looks formatted fine, the lettering is just a touch odd looking.

I preferred the old style myself. Since this is an "experiment," I think some tweaking will make it better. (I don't think the font change is necessary, but making the text that's quoted a different color is a good idea, I think). I also rather like the quoted text filling up a whole box rather than just a line on one side. That said, even if this was final and not experimental, it's tolerable.

I didn't realize there was a problem with the way quoting was. Still really don't.

I probably wouldn't mind the new blockquoting so much if it was aesthically pleasing. On a side note, I need pizza.
