@bunnyboiler: pfft, in the end mario kart will outdo pearl as whatever new pokemon game will eat the tail of the older game's sales. MKDS has been a monolith on the npd's since 2005, it's frightening how much that has sold.
Pokemon. SS and HG sold 1.5 M just the first weekend in JP and my guess now is that it has sold over 4 M in JP now. I bet Pokemon will sell at least 20-30m units worldwide just a week after release.
Pokemon by far, not only is it guaranteed to sell millions on the name alone, but these are remakes of the most popular in the series. It's no contest. Halo or Starcraft will likely be number 2 though.

I am going to say Halo:Reach for best selling of the year because Mario will probably end up selling more but Nintendo fans are not necessarily got to get it now purchasers and Treyarch Call of Duty games in general don't sell as well. Also, no God of War option? I think that will probably be in top 5 selling of the year.

S0ndor beat me to it. The reality is that Wii fit and sports resort are still selling like crazy. From the games actually being released in 2010. I would say its between Halo Reach and GT5. Fifa I do not think will make it as EA are doing a World Cup game as well this year, Blizzard have alienated too many fans for SC2 to be up there and I am too old to even guess if people still buy Pokemon.
My first thought was Bad Company 2 because its multiplatform, and Reach is only 360. Then again Halo 3 sold really good aswell. I doubt the Call of Duty game by Treyarch will sell as good as both Modern Warfare games. I wonder what Nintendo has up its sleeve..
